DIY Swapping Project WIP Thread

Recommended Posts

This is for everyone taking part in the DIY Swapping Project to post their WIP models, exchange ideas, ask for feedback. When your model is done, post it in the HOH thread, which I won't open up yet as I doubt anyone has even properly started yet. I will then knock something up at the end to showcase everyones models.

Good luck men, look forward to seeing your work!

Right then. let's kick this off! Allow me to present:

Brother Sergeant Dario of the Crimson Guardians.

http://c.imagehost.org/t/0460/DSC00343.jpghttp://c.imagehost.org/t/0338/DSC00344.jpghttp://c.imagehost.org/t/0850/DSC00345.jpghttp://c.imagehost.org/t/0073/DSC00346.jpghttp://c.imagehost.org/t/0727/DSC00347.jpg

+++ Transmission begins +++

Obvervations of Chapter Master Ryoto - Brother-Sergeant Dario.

Brother-Sergeant Dario was reknowned even during his time as an initiate as being both impetuos and zealous. He has a dark, even malevolent presence and he demands the respect of his equals and subordinates, his fury is everpresent like an unerupted volcano. Indeed he only ever seems truly at home on the battlefield where his rage can be unleashed upon our enemies, though ever under the watchful eye of Chaplain Rahman he has consistently exceeded even our highest expectations.

It is fitting then that Forge Master Varuk has chosen him to trial the new 'CG Pattern' power plant, through him we will discover the true benefits to our Brothers of the ability to produce short bursts of increased power to their battle suits, whether that be phenomenal acceleration or gargantuan strength, even by our own high standards.

In Nomen Imperator.

Curse you, Falcon! I wanted to be first! Oh well.

Brother Sergeant Aelious

Within the Sons of Doom, Brother Aelious was viewed as an oddity. Although he had earned Terminator honors nearly a century before their Chapter had any of their own, he refused to accept one of the ancient armors when they became available after their encounter with the Black Templars. Fiercely independant, Aelious has been known to question his Captain when he deems his course of action unwise, though he is nonetheless staunchly loyal to his Chapter and his Battle-Brothers. A veteran of numerous campaigns against the Chapter's hated foe, the Tyranids, Aelious has come to enjoy bringing his ancient power fist down upon the chitinous heads of the largest bio constructs. True to this, Aelious and his men are often called upon to surgically cut down those beasts which lead Tyranid invasions, and has personally felled many such monstrosities.

As for the model proper, I had a bit of a superglue accident, but it's nothing too serious. If you'll PM me, I'd like to see if you're willing to trade final products.

Here's the progress I've made on Elohimalpha's model. I give you 7th Captain, Adelais of the Lions of the Dawn chapter.

++Captain's Log, Week 5++

"34 days amongst the ice and still no sign of our prize. Apothecary Ianus wishes me to sleep, or even activate my Catalypsian node, but I refuse. I have no choice but to. Not even the Chaplaincy knows this, but for days our lord the Emperor glorious had come to me in my dreams. He tells me he had heard of our chapter's plight and shows me visions of the banner carried by Marshal Endelyon during Ilio's Betrayal. I will not rest until it is found, for doing so would show to the Emperor Almighty in my dreams that I could not find it of my own ability. And as if Ianus was not enough, my champion Trefor refuses to leave my side for more than a minute, fearing that in my weariness I might falter and be slain by a fell ice-beast. I appreciate their concern, as any battle-brother would but- *thud* -the hell did I trip on? What's this, it's a..... winged skull? By the Emperor, this is a banner pole! Ianus! Trefor! Get the drill-servitors and squads 4 and 7! We've got work to do!"

I am loving this! Great model, great story! You really incorporated the Chapter's history/beliefs fluidly - I'm just really really impressed!

On an unrelated note, I've finally got my sketches done for the Omega Fists - should have some photos by Friday!

@WingsOfTheFalcon - Love the pose the model has. Simple, but I love it. What power weapon arm did you use? Where from?

Thanks, I could really do with some input on highlighting the red though, I'm rubbish at painting coloured Power Armour!

The arm is just from the Assault Squad kit, no conversion whatsoever. <_<

I just hope my painting can do this model justice. What color of helmet do you use for captains?

Looking through your gallery, it seems your painting skills are more than equal to the task! I use white helmets for my Vets and Captains

Alright, here is the preliminary model for Heru Talon's Darkwatch:

gallery_50723_4325_22927.jpggallery_50723_4325_17570.jpg

I haven't yet fixed his base, but the idea is more of a diorama than an actual unit (though you could use it as an objective marker). The Space Marine is shooting out of some debris-covered shelter, holding aloft his banner, with a servo-skull coming out from behind him (one of his servants). The servo-skull I ordered several weeks ago (still hasn't arrived), for another idea, but can be used here as well. The colors are obviously just what happened to be on the bitz at the time, but I obviously intend to repaint them to the Darkwatch scheme (which I look forward to very much).

I modeled the greenstuff robes on pretty easily, I'll probably work on them some more. the back of the torso is from the Tank gunner, hence the lack of a power pack, and you would see the cables running down if not for the robe. I used a bit from a shoulder pauldron to make a high collar, which will be painted the same as the cloth. I also tried to make some extra armor on one pauldron, but may remove that if it doesn't turn out how I might like.

Here is what I have done so far for Reyner's Ghost Dragons Marine:

Captain Reyneris

gallery_45382_4545_44301.jpg

gallery_45382_4545_50938.jpg

And, because it seems that almost everyone has written up a bit of fluff about the mini that they are doing,

Brother-Captain Reyneris of the Ghost Dragons leapt out of the back hatch of the diving Thunderhawk, the five Vanguard Veterans in his squad following suit, before the Gunship pulled up and banked away to strafe the main Tau column on the other side of the city from the drop zone. Reyneris held off from igniting his jump pack, recognising that stealth and surprise were critical in this attack. He plummeted in feet-first free-fall toward the objective, which had been carefully selected according to his analysis of the enemy positions. Reyneris slightly grinned as he spotted the first target of his wrath below.

The dark blue Crisis Shas'el scanned the horizon, blacksun filters active to penetrate the inky blackness that had descended upon the city. The Tau forces had secured this city against little resistance, and they were preparing to assault the final Imperial bastion under the cover of darkness. The Shas'el turned around, ready to send the signal to initiate the assault. Suddenly, the Crisis Battlesuit shattered under the impact of a massive white specter that had descended from the heavens, the midnight Battlesuit half-buried into the pavement of the landing pad, with it's upper hull fragmented and Tau blood splattered across the pavement and the ornate white armor of the Marine that had delivered the deathblow. The unfortunate Shas'el that had arrested Reyneris' free-fall was not the last to feel the Dragon's wrath, as the Captain fired his pisol twice, delivering purifing plasma into a nearby Crisis bodyguard. The Battlesuit crumpled to the hard ground, as Reyneris heard the distinctive thundercracks of his fellow Ghost Dragons activating their jump packs momentarily to slow their falls enough to allow them to land and immediately slice into the elite Fire Warrior bodyguards, preventing the Tau infantry from interfering with Reyneris' mission.

A third Battlesuit felt the purity delivered by the Ghost's pistol, and he too fell, leaving the path between Reyneris and his true objective clear. The Ghost Dragon briefly fired his pack, launching himself toward the objective. Across the landing pad, the Tau were swiftly being cut down by the assault Veterans, and as Reyneris touched down, he deftly deflected the few feeble blows delivered by the final Tau, before bringing his relic sword around in an arc that sliced clean through impure xeno flesh, impure xeno bone, and impure xeno robes, cleaving the Ethereal in two. The Tau immediately recognised the death of their spiritual leader, and they lost cohesion, some xenos fleeing, some stunned into place only to be cut down by the Astartes, while others advanced in wrath against the specters in a futile gesture.

The actions of Reyneris and his bretheren turned what would have been a decisive victory by the main Astartes assault into an utter rout of the aliens, as the Tau forces lost all composure and were all slain in a single bloody night by the Angels of Death, the Ghost Dragons.

Sorry to spam the thread, but I guess a bump is a bump! Hope you like how it's coming along terminatorinhell. I had a play around with doing some successive glazes to build up the colour on the greaves & make the transition from Mechrite to Blood red a bit smoother.

@KhorneHunter57x: That looks like it will be awesome when painted! I loved the fluff too. I'm thinking I'll work that into their Index Astartes when I next update it. Lovely Tau smashing.

I got a start last night on Sylen's Blue Falcons Chapter. He told me that most of his chapter is equipped with Mk. VI Corvus armor so I had to rummage around into the dark recesses of my bits box (also had to bum a couple of bits off Vaaish) in order to find the right parts. I used a Mk. V heresy era torso and figured it would stand in for a Mk.6 since to my knowledge, GW doesn't make Mk.6 torsos. I haven't decided whether or not to modify the torso to look like a true Mk.6. Unfortunately, neither Vaaish nor I had a spare "bumpy" pad for the left shoulder so I took the time last night to make one. I'm mostly pretty happy with the results, but I didn't bother to round the studs. We'll see how noticeable that becomes after paint is applied. Also the OCD/perfectionistic part of me cringes when I look at the pad a see that some of the studs are a bit off. Oh well, the over all affect is still good I think.

I decided to do a veteran so as per Sylen's scheme, he'll have a white helm and right should pad. I figured that I'd add the plasma pistol to the model since I've not yet tried my hand at any glow-y plasma coils and I figure the banner will be an equally fun challenge. I'm not so sure about the tabbard though. I think he needs one, but I don't really love the one he currently has. Maybe I'll sculpt one if I have the time.

Hope everyone else is having fun with their minis. Good luck and perseverance to you all!

Here's another view so you can see that modified pad a bit more clearly:

That's probably more like what I'd like to use, but I don't really want to spend money on bitz for this project if I can help it (sorry Sylen :) ). Maybe I'll just extend this one with some greenstuff or something. I guess I've got time to ponder my options. ;)

Edit: I forgot that I have access to a DA-style full cloaked pair of legs. I might use those instead.

Here's a few shots of CM Ignus Domus's Iron Flames Hero-Captain Mikal Sklandr. Mind you, there's A LOT of sculpting work to do still, but here's the basis of this monster. As per Mr. Domus's request, he's rocking a thunder hammer, and I took the liberty of modifiying an old Deathwatch Bolter to represent Hellfire bolts, and an underslung aux. grenade launcher. The legs have been the biggest pain so far... I took an old LE marine and sawed the poor bastard in half, lol. I'll post more just before I begin painting. Hope you guys like it.
