Realised last night I hadn't painted the plasma coils on the pistol! Amazing what you miss sometimes when you're painting.

Attempted some OSL around the coils but unsure right now if it just looks scruffy?

terminatorinhell do you want any specific squad markings painting on? If not then I think I've just got a bit of work to do on lenses and the chapter symbol before he's pretty much ready for the HoH!

This is my latest version of the chapter symbol from what I can see on your website, is that ok?

Unless anyone else can see anything that needs more work?

Edit: Just noticed the barrel of the pistol needs drilling.. d'oh!

@WingsOfTheFalcon: I really like the power sword & plasma pistol you did on this mini. Would you mind sharing how you did them? (The power sword in particiular)

Cheers fella, I'm really happy with it too, though I can't take the credit for the technique on the sword as I copied it straight from mercury's tutorial on his Blood Angels page. (Post #24)

The only thing I did differently to the tutorial is a highlight of skull white after the turquoise glaze.

As for the plasma pistol, I basecoated it enchanted blue, then basically mixed enchanted blue 1:1 with skull white and drybrushed the coils, then mixed 1:1 the previous mix with skull white and drybrushed them again. I think I did about 4 stages of mix/drybrush each getting whiter and then finished with a pure white drybrush. It also conveniently means the OSL is done for you as the drybrush goes over the surrounding area, though I did tidy it up with some Chaos black afterwards.

And a paint test, you probably can't see it very well but I reckon it needs to be more blue and lighter.

So on my to do list, I'm still not sure on the head, need to clean up the GS work to a smooth finish, need to work out the colour. :)

Haha true, but I've not done much conversion work on my mini, more of a kitbash. Have you sculpted running Mk6 legs? Looks really good so far. :D

I finally received the bits that I ordered and after raiding my bits box this is what I came up with for recon0321's Knights of Tartosa. I've decided to create a Captain w/Relic Blade & Storm Shield. I'd really like to get some feedback from you all.

@recon0321: How does what I put together fit in with what you've created for your DIY Chapter? Also, do you have any pictures of your Knights of Tartosa?

For your consideration:

(I've just noticed that I missed a mold line on the Captain's left foot. It'll be cleaned up before I start painting)

Wow, you've really gone to town on the bits! Great model and really nice pose. I've noticed a mold line on the pistol butt also, so you might want to just scrape that off.

Personally I would have left the shield off to paint it, can't wait to see it finished. :)

Did I over do it on the bits? I missed the mold line on the pistol. Thanks for pointing that out, I'll be sure to get that also before painting. The model isn't glued yet, all the pieces are just pinned in place so I can paint easily. The head, Torso, legs, arms & back pack are all separate pieces still. I never fully glue a model until I've finished painting it.

There's no rush, we have until December. I have to get to finishing yours, and painting it. Does it look fine so far? I think it's one the first page.

Nice work AnrgyJohnny! Wings is right, a Captain can never be too ornate. Love the pose, and the combination of bits! Is that right arm all GS? It looks great!

Keep up the good work - can't wait to see this painted

Thanks for your comments Elohimalpha. I have little to no GS skills. The right arm is actually from a PA Grey Knight - well, the gauntlet & the weapon anyway. From the elbow up is a plastic arm that I cut to fit on the GK bits. The green is actually left over paint from an earlier paint job that I've yet to clean off.

@Recon0321: Your first link doesn't seem to be working.

Alright! Since I'm not sure if or where there is a HoH thread for this, here's Brother Cambrius' Brother Sergeant Aelious in his finished glory.

I know, I'm probably as far from GD-worthy as it gets, but I hope Cambrius will like it. If you're wondering, here's my scheme:

1. Basecoat blue with Mordian Blue and silver area with Chainmail. His DIY is described as having a 'tin' color, but his picture seemed to be yellow metallic, so I tried a compromise color.

2. For the blue, a shade of Enchanted Blue, followed by a highlight of Ice Blue.

3. For the metallics...here's how I did it. I watered down some Tin Bitz to almost a wash-like state and tried that on the Chainmail, unfortunately that color is so dark that it didn't change a thing...so, I instead heavily drybrushed it with Tin Bitz and very lightly drybrushed it with Brazen Brass. The gun was done with Chainmail for the base, Mithril Silver for the stuck-out parts, as per his DIY pic, and Dwarf Bronze followed by a highlight of Gold for the housing. The strap was easy enough, just Calthan Brown highlighted with Rotting Flesh for that used leather look.

4. The stripe was your basic Astro Grey/Skull White combo.

5. Misc.; The shoulder trim and right kneepad was done with Gnarloc Green with a Black Ink wash. It seemed to be a REALLY deep Hunter green to me, so that's how I did it. I figured he had his start in the 7th Company, so he has a '7' emblazoned on his knee. The eagle was just step 3 with a Mithril Silver Highlight. The emblem was done with Iyanden Darksun, Chaos Black, Calthan Brown, and Mithril Silver.

The base was done Calthan Brown, Rotting Flesh, Bleached Bone in lowering gradation, using the Basing Sand from the kit that the first sets of Foundation Paints came in.

If there is a HoH already, I'll gladly shift this over.
