DIY Swapping Project WIP Thread

Hey! I managed to prime my model on a cold day (I'm in Aberdeen). ;)

Shouldn't you be snowed under Heru?

Cambrius

My model has been primed for about a week (but it was cold that day).

Oh, Heru Talon, I'll post a picture of your model before I prime it tomorrow. It has been less than ideal over where I am too, and I'm waiting for mild temperature, since I don't know the threshold fro priming.

I'm ashamed to show this, because painting this particular area has been a pain. The problem is that the cloth is so close to the armour and it's a really narrow space.

Anyways, that's the Raptors of the Iron Dragons.

Aaaand...

It's snowy as hell outside. It has been all day and all of last night, and it's pretty deep, so I'm not going to get any priming done for a long time yet. Sorry, WOTF.

I've seen it on the news mate, look very serious!! Fingers crossed that you get a chance to prime before the deadline!!!

Hey! If I can spend two and a half hours starting at four in the morning, shoveling one hundred and fifty yards, eight inches and seven feet wide worth of snow, in super strong cold winds with hail, on my Birthday*, then you can prime!

And you call yourself a Scot!

* = (Yes that was what I did on the morning of the 28th Nov GMT).

Aye, but I'm 16, and to that end, lazy as f*ck :P I've been in my bed for most of the weekend (hooray for two days' holiday!)

Quick update:

I've gone ahead of schedule and not only dumped terrain and snow on the base, but also started to add the (headless) dead bodies. I intend to make him with the bike doing a wheelie while he slashes the foul xenos with his mighty sword. I'm thinking about drilling a hole in the head of one body with his gun pointed at it.

I've set myself a deadline, to try and get the model completed before Taste Of Chaos on the 11th. So you might be seeing some pics around that time, provided I can steal my sister's camera charger. It's been snowing a lot, so I've not had a charnce to prime.

So, not only am I alive, I've also made some progress on homerjwho's Omega Fists!

First, a little story:

“S
ir, enemy strength at 20.”

“Damn. Outnumbered 3 to 1,” thought Sgt. Vallidus Laedo. He smiled grimly to himself. His men were steadfast, exemplars of the stubbornness which had earned the Omega Fists renown, but the weeks of constant fighting had begun to take their toll. They had served their Emperor admirably: they held the communications relay against the Chaos filth for more than two weeks, inflicting losses far greater than their meager numbers. Still, it was only a matter of time before the rest of the Traitor’s warband closed in. Even now, as Sgt. Laedo and his squad lay concealed behind a low rise, the ground trembled with their approach.

“Sir, your orders?”

“My orders are as they have always been: we will hold. Not one of those degenerates is to touch His sacred ground. You have proven yourselves true Sons of Dorn, brothers; I ask you to do so once more. Hold your fire until they approach; the element of surprise must serve when numbers will not. Be prepared to follow my charge.”

The Traitors were taken completely unawares, and fully half their squad fell in the opening salvo. Their Champion was screaming orders to his men, hoping to restore some order to mount a counter-assault. Seizing the initiative, Sgt. Laedo took up the Company’s banner, leaping over the rise. “Into them, Brothers!” he roared, his stormbolter singing an ageless litany of hate and death. “For Dorn and the Emperor! We are your end!”

Still in the early stages of painting, but everything is blocked out at least. I apologize in advance for the extremely rough GS work (those of you with small children or weak stomachs should look away now); I'd never used GS before, but I really wanted to try my hand at adding details. The good news is it can only get better, right?

Still missing a few elements, but I think it holds pretty true to my original concept (except for the left arm). For sure needs highlights and some more shading, and there's some work still to do on the left arm in general. Not sure if I'm going to have the skill necessary to make a convincing-looking banner.

The one spot of GS that I feel ok about is the hair I added - way easier than I thought it was going to be. It's really easy to conceptualize neat details you want to add, until you actually try to make them *sigh*. I always had too much GS.

gallery_54762_5352_39655.jpg
Still need to add text to the banners, and there's a shocking lack of purity seals on the model (which is crazy, because I love em). Also, personal heraldry is a lot harder to paint than I thought . . .

[clearfloat]

There's a few other photos in my gallery if anyone's interested. Sorry for the fuzziness - really need a macro setting.

Still left to do:

-Highlighting/shading, and adding some battle damage/weathering

-Basing: never done basing of any kind, so the whole project is going to be all kinds of a learning experience. What I want to do is a CSM (maybe even a Khorne Berserker) under the left foot in an appropriately-bloody mess.

-A Chapter banner/flag: this may or may not happen, but if it doesn't, the whole thing's going to look unbalanced and silly (you know, sillier).
