Marid
I would think you'll have a rough go of it with only two lascannons to take out armor and long distance threats. Psycannons are ok against soft armor, but range will be a problem with PAGKs. You also have no armored protection for your infantry and little mobility to take objectives or get out of a jam. 'just too many disadvantages to overcome. ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/212427-gery-knights-at-gt/#findComment-2532138 Share on other sites
Captain Idaho
Sadly, I agree. I'm no expert on GKs but perhaps they are more competetive when taken in smaller numbers with cheaper troops as the core? Like adding GKs to an Imperial Guard army, essentially? f.desrochers
Off-hand, your list presents a few problems; the lack of AT other than two AV12 lascannons being a primary concern. Question: You have BC Stern but no GKT retinue to go with him? If he's simply there to unlock the dreads, you may find an IL a better choice, freeing up points from the dreads and allowing inducted Guard for LC goodness. Otherwise, are you planning on sticking him in the middle squad during the advance? Question: Black Red and Gold and your IST squads... The way you've listed things leaves no way to tell if it's 7 models total or 7 models plus the special weapons. If ten-man strong, there may be a better distribution possible. Critiques: BC Stern: Great model and good rules, though limited without a retinue.... PAGK: I'm assuming 10-strong each. The biggest beef I have are the Justicars; simply too much gear. No need for the MC or the artificer armour, saving you 60 points. I'd say you could cut one of the squads down to 6-8 and just have the two psycannons, maybe a targeter to help with fire support. Have these guys hold your home objective or nearby ones, allowing the others to concentrate on other objectives. IST: First thing, these guys need a more focused raison d'etre. Best possible uses are either Rhino-borne meltas or flamers (AT or anti-pers) or with two plasma guns sitting on home objective. Those 60 points from the PAGK buy these guys a nifty Rhino for 58 points. There is no conceivable reason to upgrade these guys to have a Vet Sgt. - waste of points, which is both annoying and disappointing, I know. Dreads: I play with one of these in my lists, sometimes two. Love 'em, but I have 1 or 2 LRs to distract. At 1500 points it is tought, but I feel better targeted to spend the points on only one of these, and somehow fit a LR in there. It not only provides a great fire suppresaant for the remainder of the army, but also allows one squad to close in further and faster. The others can ground-pound it in and support, along with the dread, especially if the IST squad remains on the objective. I digress. It's not that you can't go to a GT with Grey Knights, just that they need a special amount of tweaking to make the most of what we have. I have a Malleus list (IL, Calli, IST squads [flamers in Rhino, plasmas on foot] + GKT, PAGK, GKLR and GK dread) that recently won a 4-game tournament (beat mech-Eldar, Tau, Chaos Daemons and Space Wolves) and will be representing at a GT-qualifier tournament. Took me a good while to get it to where it works this well. Aside from DE, benefitting from a soon-to-come overhaul), pure GK armies are one of the most notorious for real attention to detail during list creation. ;francois Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/212427-gery-knights-at-gt/#findComment-2535223 Share on other sites
