MIssion:

We played two objectives, Dawn of War. He placed his objective in the right side of his deployment zone and I placed mine in my left. I figured this would allow me to concentrate all my units on one side of the board to both defend and take his objective.

Deployment:

On deployment, here is what I did that felt kind of weird and yet paid dividends in the end.

Nid player had won the roll off so deployed first. He placed all his gaunts at the edge of his deployment, ready to rush my objective, with the tervigon in the middle being screened by them. His hive guard were in his deployment behind some cover. I held everything off the board.

Game Highlights:

This was a pretty damn good game so I really kinda lost track of events so will mention some high points and how it ended up.

So I gave him his big first move and only brought the bulk of my army in 6" and deployed. This allowed me to open fire first turn with two packs of Grey Hunters on gaunts that were all within 12" double tap range and in cover so the gaunts would be assaulting last in the next turn they assaulted. Except, I tossed my fenrisian wolves and thunderlord at them first with their nice move, run, and assault on my turn. After shooting and assaulting, one 30 gaunt swarm was practically decimated. They got their revenge in the next turn when my thunderlord rolled a 4 and three 1's to be killed by said remaining swarm.

I believe in playing the mission not the army and that really won me the game. I continued my push to his far objective while using my two remaining Grey Hunter packs and WGTDA to kill the remaining 30 gaunt squad, tervigon, 14 more spawned gaunts, and deepstriking Trygon prime off of the objective in my deployment zone. The Long Fangs only fired one turn dealing with the other Trygon Prime that deep struck within 6" of them.

A great moment when after leaving the Long Fangs in the movement phase, the Rune Priest bravely assaults the Trygon Prime, hits 3 times, rolls one 6 to wound, and despite Shadow of the Warp, frys the big bug's remaining 4 wounds before while falling in battle. Great moment which I will be writing up. Long Fangs actually get decimated a turn later by HT and shrikes.

So after destroying all troops and holding both objectives the game ended on turn 5.
