con-fusion
I posted these up in the DA Showcase, and figured I would share here as well. My project in short: I've stripped my 20+ year-old collection of RT era DA, and am now in the process of repainting them as Consecrators (not much of a change going from black with yellow eyes and red helmet stripes to black with yellow eyes and red helmet stripes). My main goals are to experiment with techniques and get better with freehand. Comments and suggestions are very welcome. I'm working on a Tac Squad first. First up: Sergeant Pepper http://i587.photobucket.com/albums/ss319/bkirkell/Sgt%20Pepper/IMG_0729.jpg http://i587.photobucket.com/albums/ss319/bkirkell/Sgt%20Pepper/IMG_0731.jpg http://i587.photobucket.com/albums/ss319/bkirkell/Sgt%20Pepper/IMG_0737.jpg http://i587.photobucket.com/albums/ss319/bkirkell/Sgt%20Pepper/IMG_0740.jpg Here is Brother Mustard (special weapon marine in Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts): http://i587.photobucket.com/albums/ss319/bkirkell/Brother%20Mustard/IMG_0746.jpg http://i587.photobucket.com/albums/ss319/bkirkell/Brother%20Mustard/IMG_0748.jpg http://i587.photobucket.com/albums/ss319/bkirkell/Brother%20Mustard/IMG_0749.jpg http://i587.photobucket.com/albums/ss319/bkirkell/Brother%20Mustard/IMG_0750.jpg http://i587.photobucket.com/albums/ss319/bkirkell/Brother%20Mustard/IMG_0745.jpg
DarKHaZZ13
my only tip with freehand is that you ahve to rember to highlight it too. and not in a hard edge way, but more of a blended way... not so much of a problem here with white like, but a tip for the future. con-fusion
Thanks. I'll try to keep an eye on that. I tend to use layering for shading, but I just couldn't seem to get it right on the consecrator symbol and it ended up looking hard edged. Would wet blending provide better transitions for small iconography on a flat surface? If so, how would you recommend getting up to white?
tiny sam
how old exactly are these minis? you do realise they might be older than some people on this board!
con-fusion
I got these in the late 80's. Pretty much my entire collection is RT era, so I guess this is going to be a RT-era mini project as well. I fully expect that there will be a number of comments about the sculpts, and I can't wait to finish the dread I'm currently working on. GW had a sense of humor back then, and the GrimDark insanity hadn't infected everything yet.
Muller
Oh I know, I have a few of those myself, but I still giggle when I see that model :P (they are awesome though... in their own way, and no I don't expect the kiddies on the forums to understand that)
con-fusion
Finished my dread. con-fusion
It looks like a mod came in and cleaned up some of the off-color posts in here. I know that some of these sculpts are just begging for non-family friendly jokes, but please remember that the B&C caters to people of all ages and PM me if you want to discuss some of the more unusual poses that GW dreamed up back in the day. Also, I really would appreciate comments and suggestions. DarKHaZZ13's suggestion on highlighting my freehand was invaluable. I have worked to get better at it, and am making some progress as I think the Captain's stripes on the shoulder plate of Lee'Roy Brown (the Dread) and the white on Brother Saf-Ron's Consecrator symbol show. vim_the_good
fantastic. A while back I had a few RT SM painted up as Blood Angels. I wish I had not given them away, but hey. I like the Black with yellow eyes and your freehand looks fine:) One thing though. Whenever I use black I find if it's thinned a little it flows better while keeping its opacity and dries to more of a watt finish. Cheers Vim
Leonidus
Brother Saf-Ron: http://i587.photobucket.com/albums/ss319/bkirkell/Brother%20Saf-Ron/IMG_1835.jpg http://i587.photobucket.com/albums/ss319/bkirkell/Brother%20Saf-Ron/IMG_1831.jpg http://i587.photobucket.com/albums/ss319/bkirkell/Brother%20Saf-Ron/IMG_1832.jpg I'll have to edit this to add the front picture later... Is that an Aliens stylee combi flamer? RAD!!!
con-fusion
It's actually listed as a heavy bolter. I think the "combi whatsit" on the inside that looks like another weapon is a targetter... or maybe a suspensor. Ah, for the days when a space marine could walk and fire a heavy weapon.
