yea, this is a moot point beasts of wars are rules lawyers at best.

I wouldn't say rules 'lawyers' because lawyers usually know the law and try to bend it their way. Beasts of War have proven WAY more often then not that they don't even know the rules

A template weapon cannot touch friendly models- fine, fun, true. But it can go over the top of itself. Why? Well, because frankly its the old argument "am I my own friend?".

Edit- the guy on the left seems to always been wrong in rules debates. I wonder if thats a setup.

Yes, a template weapon is only not permitted to touch friendly models. with infantry this usually never arises because you measure from the edge of the base so overlap is impossible. With vehicles such as the Baal and the Immolator or even a Razorback with TL Heavy Flamers unless you fire from a very specific angle you will always have the template overlapping yourself.

Strictly speaking, yes you would have to roll for penetration on the vehicle as well as any other models the template touches. So a Heavy Flamer Razorback could glance itself 1 out of every 6 shots fired.
