Am I crazy?

I am working on a small Space Wolves force, and I've been trading stuff for various parts of the army. So far I have some Long Fangs, a few marines, some drop pods, rhinos, terminators and dreadnoughts.

Now really I don't have a ton of stuff for infantry, and I've been toying with the idea of make the Space Wolves using Dwarves. They both have similar fluff/backgrounds and I've always had a soft spot for dwarves, but no way to play since no one I know plays WFB.

I was thinking of either chopping up the dwarf warrior parts and using the legs with a Space Marine torso and arms, with a dwarf head, or using the dwarf warriors outright and just converting the weapons. I'd like to give the impression of having decent armor on the dwarves.

The general theory would be that standard dwarf warrors/thunderers would act as power armor marines, while Ironbreakers would be terminators (this might be tough, though, since ironbreakers are only available in metal).

I guess my two biggest questions are:

1. How do the dwarf torsos and arms compare in size to a Space Marine? Would it look really awkward, or are they relatively similar in size?

2. Am I completely nuts in even trying this?

3. Does the Skull Pass box come with any other good Dwarves that make for decent conversions, or are they too limited?

Must be the "new math", hehehe.

I don't think it's completely nuts. It would be an interesting challenge to be sure. The runic stylings of the Dwarves is a very fitting association to make with the SW's. Their fondness of good ales and roaring fires with meat on a spit rotating slowly over said fires is too much of a parallel to ignore. I think. Swapping bits and converting weapons will probably be the easiest part of it all. The armor thing may give the the biggest challenge. The scale of the figures (height) might give you the biggest headaches if you play in a tourney. Anal-retentive sticklers will lambast you for such a blasphemy, just sayin'.

Whatever you choose, I wish you luck. Oh, and don't forget the pictures.

There will definitely be pictures if I go ahead with this.

The armor is definitely the most troublesome, but I'm not too worried about the power armor guys. It's mostly the Terminators that will be tough to do properly.

As for the height, I did consider that. I do play in a few local tournaments, but they are pretty casual. Plus if anything I think I'd be at a bigger disadvantage just because they wouldn't be able to see over things as easily.

Yes, you may in fact be crazy, but its ok. just take yer meds like me and everything will be ok.

If the dwarfs are anything like the Space Marines in the Black Reach box, there wont be a lot you can do with them as far as posing. Remember all the marines were all just kinda standing there.

As far as size you could put something between the base and their feet to make them the "right" size for tournys

I bought the SW box to see what goodies I could find for my Templars.

With the left overs, I decided to make some Wolf standard guys by using the Dwarf banners.

I think they look really good.

I also intend to swap out some chain weapons for some of the axes and hammers Dwarves come with.

I am not sure I'd use actual Dwarves, but if you like them then go for it.

Just chop off arms, and glue on shoulder pads, and bolters. it would look ok.

But on a plus side you're kinda rolling into a blasphemous course to resurrecting the "Squats", 'dun dun daaa'

but I like it! So onward in your adventurous course. Onward i say to ye! Make sure to drink plenty of ale while you paint to get into the spirit of it all.

So, you're getting Wolf stuff to make up for your puny Templar bits? ;)

Templars have the best kit-bashing potential of any of the Marines, imo.

BT

DA

Chaos Marines

Empire

Bretonnian

Skaven

Chaos Fantasy

So the SW must have something of worth in all the stuff :P

No. Just no.

Bearded,

Long haired,

Braided,

Beer guzzling,

Tough,

Innovative,

Excellent on defense,

Strong sense of kinship,

Dislikes others magic,

Story tellers,

Axes,

Hammers.

Who am I talking about? That's right, they are very similar. In fact Wolves are like Dwarves without the handicaps of being stumpy and rotund.

Wolves have offensive magic and Cavalry/Beasts. Things Dwarves dream about [though they never share it ;) ]

Space Wolves = Long Dwarves.

in Spaaace!

Let's see if I can beat this list.

Chaos marines

Orks - both 40k and fantasy, including goblin kits and wolves

Chaos fantasy, including wolves

Empire (flagellants)

Beastmen

IG Catachans

Tau kroot bits

Yey, I did it ;)

Kroot bits, not that you are stretching for an 8th one

I think you could include Dwarf parts with a bit more conviction though. The plastic banners really look Fenrisian and Viking.

Much like the C:SW cover ~ with all the fancy work on the shoulder pads.

Remember, I use SW bits too, so we are both on Eight ;)

Well that is a good list, regardless.

What Ork, Orc, Goblin and Flagellants bits do you use?

I am thinking about Chaos Warhounds but Goblin Wolf heads. Is that often done? The warhounds heads are a bit, erm, well, I like the Wolf heads better....

I'll have to be satisfied with the best Storm Shields in the game, oh well ;)

Flagellant heads and some weapon/hand bits for chopping around. With Orks and orcs I went a bit farstretched, but their shields and hands, especially muscled ones, are good for scout/feral marine conversions. Course they need to be chopped at the fist level, but if I need muscled huge hands and can't find satisfying bits in the Catachan range, orks iare the next ones to search for.

From kroots range I used only shoulderpads actually, but they are invaluable for bare hands
