JamesI
Well, its hard to say. Everyone likes different styles of armies. The Blood Angels can do a pure jump pack army, no one else can. We can also do a great mech army. We tend to be better in close than regular marinesl have lots of ways to get furious charge, Feel No Pain and Preferred Enemy into a list. Marines have some advantages we don't, such as the pure bike army, the all outflanking army, the possibility of fleet marines, Thunderfire Cannons. Both armies are good, its more a matter of personal style. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/212623-ba-or-not/#findComment-2529514 Share on other sites
Brother Nathan
that is entirely up to you. However i will say that many people dislike codex jumpers. If you arnt sure get as much fluff on all the chapter you can and go through and see what you really like the most. We have a good codex, but its balance just like the marine dex. wolves is less balanced and even beter. the dark angels is meh, it does ok, blacktemplars can be goodd but also needs updated and the grey knights is awaiting theirs in the start of the next year. So all i can say is do your research. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/212623-ba-or-not/#findComment-2529525 Share on other sites

You would basically be BA in name only as you wouldnt have the Baals, the Furiosos, the Jump infantry or any of the sang priests or special characters which all have to go together to make the army gel. At least thats how i see it. I think you have to build a BA army from the ground up to make it really effective, both on the table and visually. My thoughts anyways, Mudpuppet Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/212623-ba-or-not/#findComment-2529739 Share on other sites
Jakobus
It really depends on what you have already, especially if you don't want to spend a bucket of money. And I guess it would also depend on how you like to play. My thought is to play some proxy games against a friend to see how you like the play style Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/212623-ba-or-not/#findComment-2529943 Share on other sites

I started out taking a marine army and making it into a BA one (to be fair though, I had a lot of jump packs already and was able to convert up a Baal). Joasht
Its doable. You can do one of two things: 1) You could stick with Tacticals. Despite the flak they've received they are still playable, I'm pretty sure I saw a number of members post on this forum that they didn't change their armies from the previous editions (aka Tacts are their troops) and they still do well. Maybe not AS WELL as you'd like them to play, but hey its still BA. 2) Take your time. Eleven years ago I switched from Ultramarines to Blood Angels (hence my DIY chapter's mishmash blue/red color scheme) and over the years I accumulated many models, particularly Assault Marines, which I learnt to love and use since back in 3rd ed when they were freaking 25 points each (iirc). It was a bonus to me that my rather sizeable collection of jump packers ended up as Troop choices in 5th ed. Overall 40k is a hobby, so planning in terms of years instead of weeks/months isn't a bad thing.
