chrisult
Hi guys, I want my squad sargents to look abit different from the other assault/tactical troops and I'm wondering what you out there use as your sargents.. maybe you make some conversions or use chapter masters etc maybe I get some ideas :D. Thanks
Inquisitor_Lensoven
i think a lot of the time, a simple helmetless head is what a lot of people use.
Redfinger
My chapter is called "Sanguine Templars" so I used some left over Black Templar robed torso's, painted the robe black, and the armor red. I have also taken it a bit further and I paint the helmets black to match the inset on the shoulder and the robe, also I paint the jump pack black also, when I get home from work I will post a pic. Black_Sky
I invert the shoulderpad colours and use helmet-less heads most of the time.
IronKobra
The inverted shoulder guard colours was the usual way to do it. Looks great if you still use the black shoulder edges from 2nd Ed. If you don't then you could go for some extra pieces on the armour, like a purity seal or one of the many fancy new shoulder pads...And if you like helmets you could use something a little different from the regulars...Like something with extra optic lenses or an antenna or an older varient. Dhx711
All my vets/sgts have "beakie" style helmets.
Quixus
It is very subtle, but I use the helmets with a skull or winged skull on the forehead. If there is one with an antenna as well, all the better. Beakies go to my RAS members. If you don't do it for your squads already a two-tone helmet may be an option too. It is part of my general paint scheme, and the beakies look especially cool.
JamesI
My sergeants are made from figures from the DC box, or come from the old metal veterans, or in one case was made out of an extra Space Marine Commander box I had.
Redo
I like to invert the shoulder pads of the sergeants; Black with Red trim. I am also lucky enough to have a varied collection of metal space marines. Some Veterans and some old 2ed. figures (a couple of old 1st edition too), I use these to denote sergeants. The way I see it is that all sergeants are in some ways heroes and deserve a metal figure. The only exception are my Honour Guard and VV. They are all plastic and the serg is pimped out with either some old metal bits or just some better plastic bits.

chrisult
Thanks for all your suggestions. I think sargents deserves to be more heroic I was thinking to use the chapter masters as my sargents although they don't have blood angels marks on them :) even some bits from the command squad will be cool I think. Leonaides
I use banners, and on my squad leaders as well. RAS - well, they get alternate coloured shoulderpads and jump-pack intakes.

Zeller
Helmetless heads, bp/ccw combo, and the inverted shoulder pad scheme. I suppose you could always throw on more purity seals and random bits and bobs so Joe Schmoe becomes Joe Schmoguine Esq., blood letter of the Golgothan crusade, reaver of Taros, and so forth and so on. WarpWhisper
I must admit to going a little 'old school' and adding back banners to all my sgts (except JP sgts of course!)
Brother-Captain Devlonir
I use a combination of special wargear (powerfists, swords or thunder hammers) the helmetless head, DC shoulderpads/backpacks and a base that adds height to the model to denounce my Sergeants as something special. As an example, here is my Tactical Sergeant (still very WIP, this is shortly after glueing it all together but before working away mold and cut lines)
tahrikmili
Black shoulderpads, (screaming) bare heads, purity seals, loin clothes, wargear work OK for me. I save more bling for HQs. OH but how do I forget, of course, ALSO BANNERS! SERGEANTS HAVE BANNERS!

OH but how do I forget, of course, ALSO BANNERS! SERGEANTS HAVE BANNERS! I agree with the above especially the banners. Another trick that works well is basing. If you stand them on something like a rock or an ork it makes them look taller than the rest of the squad.
