The 100+ Scouts Project

Hello all!

I've been wanting to post this for a while. I'm making a 10th Company army, all Scouts all the time.

I have about 75 Troops now. I plan for 10 Bikes and 3 Land Speeder Storms... 1 will be converted to act as a Spotter for an Apocalypse Supression Force! You'll notice some 'Frankenstein' esque models (some are kinda painted, some have some parts primed, etc...) in time, they will all be painted and based.

For now, here's what I've got:

Group Photo:

Here's the basic squads so far. 3 Close Combat Squads, 2 Sniper Squads and 2 Bolter Squads. Also, my special 'Master of Recruits' Character.

A closer look a the 2 Sniper Squads:

this one is primed and has my converted "Telion" model. He has a custom bolter.

Here's a closeup of him:

Here's the other Sniper Squad:

http://i430.photobucket.com/albums/qq25/ConductorSam/Warhammer%20stuff/100scouts22.jpg

Now the 2 Bolter Squads:

A: 8 Bolters, Sergeant with Powerfist and Combi-Flamer. Also a Heavy Bolter

http://i430.photobucket.com/albums/qq25/ConductorSam/Warhammer%20stuff/100scouts12.jpg

and B: 8 Bolters, Standard Sergeant, Heavy Bolter

http://i430.photobucket.com/albums/qq25/ConductorSam/Warhammer%20stuff/100scouts25.jpg

the 3 Close Combat Squads:

A: 9 Close Combat Scouts, Sergeant with Combi-Melta, Powerfist and Melta Bombs

http://i430.photobucket.com/albums/qq25/ConductorSam/Warhammer%20stuff/100scouts20.jpg

B: 9 Close Combat Scouts, Sergeant with Combi-Melta, Melta Bombs and Chainsword

and C: 9 Close Combat Scouts, Sergeant with Combi-Flamer, Melta Bombs

http://i430.photobucket.com/albums/qq25/ConductorSam/Warhammer%20stuff/100scouts6.jpg

Here's a closeup of the Master of Recruits:

in the background:

6 more Snipers, part of my Third Sniper Squad. Note Powerfist on Sergeant.

http://i430.photobucket.com/albums/qq25/ConductorSam/Warhammer%20stuff/100scouts10.jpg

and Finally, the 4th Close Combat Squad, all going to be converted using Sniper bodies...

As this is a work in progress, I'll update when I can.

I figured an important part of a Scouts wargear are cloaks. I plan to have every single Scout with a cloak, whether it be stored or open.

I also plan for a second version of the Master of Recruits, with a cloak.

Let me know what you think.... stay tuned.

PS - This is my own custom chapter.... yet to be named.

Cool! :o look forward to seeing how this progresses...

One thing though, you would have 7 troop choices wouldn't you? Is this fieldable?

Also, hope you don't mind if i point you in the direction of this guy who made scouts in exo-suits to count-as terminators! http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/237403.page

I actually plan to have 9 troop choices with this army. It will give me the versatility to try different things...

This is also going to be my Apocalypse army. I had close to 10000 pts of Space Marines, but rarely, if ever did I get a chance to field more than 3500 pts worth.

With the 10th Company Datasheet, I can field all of my Scouts, and still have enough points left for Heavy Support, and Elites, etc.

Looking good so far... I am working on a similar project too (100 scouts over 12 squads I think I am short @ 20 scouts) can't wait to see more progress

Goodluck my friend. I'm doing a 1st co, and I tell you, its a lot of work XP At least you seem to have most of your models already go.

Get to painting!

I plan to start more painting tonight... I just moved in to my new Condo, and this was one of the first things I un-packed... much to the displeasure of my wife. She's been working me like a dog since....

@war009: Any coinversions? I'd be interested to see your Scouts too!

I have some conversions but I think about 57 of my scouts are pewter so conversions are a little limited...:(

Mainly mine are due to the LSS I have bought (4) and sold (2 one was still nib). This is my second attempt at doing the 10th company. But I have 5 Scout bikes in the way, courtesy of eBay. I'll see what pics I have and try to post them up....I know I have some in my thread on the Phalanax link in sig....but my thread is like 6 pages of rants and general craziness...

Why not make them space sharks? ;)

"It is also believed that the Space Sharks may be a Successor Chapter of the White Scars because part of the scouting company of that Space Marine Legion got separated from the rest of the Legion during the Horus Heresy and that upon returning after the end of the Horus Heresy they formed their own Space Marine Chapter specializing in the use of Scout Marines."

  • 1 month later...

It's been about a month, so I figured I'd post a little progress:

This is going to be a 10 Scout Close Combat Squad. I used the sniper bodies and a little green stuff and voila!

http://i430.photobucket.com/albums/qq25/ConductorSam/Warhammer%20stuff/marines002.jpg

I like to think of this squad as my 'Special Forces' Squad. they have the 1/2 Marine Helmet which would allow them to survive in very hostile environments, and cloaks deployed, like they were lurking... waiting to strike!

I've done some painting, which I will post tomorrow.

Thanks for checking back!

Nice models man!! I've found scouts a bit hard to "convert" in the proper sense of the term, but you mixed'n'matched them and converted them pretty well, congrats!!

-BTW, why does a sniper sgt have a PF while one of the ccc squads doesn't? :?-

Awesome models, well thought out

but....

i would do scout bikers in a normal game, you could feasably then field 90 scouts

and i would swap the heavy weapon in the sniper squads to a heavy bolter (same range IIRC - and the squad can then pin/mow down infantry more successfully)

i find the legs on scouts a bit awkward to convert - tried salt dipping, but they ended up with club feet!

A quick thought to add some more character to your guys...I recently did my first scout for my MM project, and I wanted my scouts to have that 'assault' look. I just chopped an old metal scout with running legs in half...

gallery_37532_5399_1078137.png

the end result turned out pretty clean, you can't really see a difference between the plastic and the pewter

I love what you're doin, man. keep up the great work

Thanks for the kind words!!

i've since removed the Powerfist from the Sniper Sergeant. I like to experiment and see what bits will fit on what, etc.

Also, I have a lot of various Sergeant models, some with Powerfist, some with Combi weapons, and some standard (Bolt Pistol and Chainsword) just to have variety. Since this is my main army now, I need to be flexible with points.

I've tried converting the scouts you get in Land Speeder Storms, and they are tricky too.

As for bikes, I'll have 20-30 of them when all is said and done.

I agree with the HB option for the Snipers. I have 3 of each now (HB and ML), so I can use them with where needed.

Thanks!

Hopefully some painted snipers and bolter scouts will be next!

Great work there, especially the sergeant's eyes. They are amazing! Well done.

One tip though, just go over the base rims with another coat of black because there are grey bits on the rims from when you have been basing.

Other than that keep up the good work.

Woops!

I actually forgot to finish painting the rims! Thanks for pointing that out!
