Ave Dominus Nox

Don't do so many marines nowadays, but I did build and paint this chap for Golden demon this year and thought that he might be of a bit of interest.

I wanted to get a twist on the Sanguinary Guard, and make him fly. Then I had read the Soul hunter and Lord of the Night books in recent times, so a Night Lord was the obvious choice, I guess...

Anyway, he got a finalist pin and the final model was pretty close to the vision that I had to start off with.

I usually stumble into threads and am impressed by some models...but I was simply wowed by how fantastic that model is!!! I really feel like he was deserving of a 1st place finish in the Golden Demon. The flames are unbelievable, the lightning is really crisp, and the rusted gold is so perfect for Chaos. Thanks for sharing

As opposed to the many who just go "awesome" ? :P

I am not a painter, i am a sculptor and so wouldn't know where to start to critique a peice like this. I look at the peice from an overall perspective and so when i say "Awesome" is it due to the whole peice having a dynamic feel and an overall feeling of being well presented.

Thanks peeps for the kind words and the critique.

@Darker - The flame is a piece of 2mm thick flat glass that I cut into shape, then squashed milliput around the top to form the cone. This was then painted before being enclosed inside some water effects. After all that it was dull coted, a little orange paint was washed over the outside and some pigments added at the bottom to give the impression of "dusting off".

@Loken86 - Chaos Fury wings. Perfect for the job (well once you snip the original shoulder joint bits off! lol)

@Br. Nihm - You're sort of right TBH and this probably cost me the chance of a statue on the day...

@Keyoz Devastrius - Erm... I dunno. It does have an 8 fold star on the parchment if that helps at all?!

@The rest - thanks v. much. He was a difficult project and I was disappointed with how he "showed" under the lights and stuff on the day, but it's another pin for the collection :P

After that I just added the thin orange wash to the outside the replicate the OSL glow that I had placed on the model and the base parts.
