Grizwald714
I was thinking of taking a wolf lord w/saga of born warrior, wc, ss, wtn, wtt, melt a bombs and a thunder wolf mount, I don't have any other thunder wolves at the moment and I am going to a tournament in 2 weeks so I was thinking of sticking him with a unit of wolves but how many wolves and would I be better of taking canis wolfborn. If anyone has experience with this let me know or would I just be better taking a wolf lord in term arm with term wg and either a landrader redeemer or drop pod Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/212839-wolf-lord-on-thunder-wolf-with-a-unit-of-fernis-wolves/ Share on other sites

I am sure you'll enjoy yourself here :D This is something I am thinking about at the moment, too. You need to support this unit with another one, otherwise your foe will just hose this one and you'll have lost it. Canis has Ld8. That is 26/36 or 72.2% Ld 10 is 33/36 or 91.7% and so is much safer. I think a Rune Priest in a Rhino, casting Storm Caller for the 5+ cover save would help them get into combat. You really want 10-15 Wolves so the Lord can make it across the TT and take heads. Once he gets there, you will need other squads coming up quickly to help. Perhaps ThunderLord+Fenwolves & LR+Wolf guard? How many points do you play at? Unless you can get some games in with the new list before the tournamnet, don't change from what you usually take. Tournaments are not the time to be learning new lists ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/212839-wolf-lord-on-thunder-wolf-with-a-unit-of-fernis-wolves/#findComment-2532182 Share on other sites
Grizwald714
I'm going to a small tournament in a week so I'll get 3 games in to tweak my list I just want to do something different cause I always run the same basic list and I want to do something new. wolf363839
Before I converted my TWC, I used to use a 5-wolf pack of Fenrisian Wolves to accompany my Thunderlord. They played ok, I'm sure more wolves would have been more resiliant. Don't overestimate your enemy though. The wolves will most likely take more than a few hits while crossing the table, so it will basically be your Thunderlord vs whatever you attack. Another thing to consider is that the Fenrisian Wolves will almost always die (and your Thunderlord will probably die at least half the time). I'm sure they will do some real damage to the enemy, but you will most likely give up 2 kill points to your opponent for basically a single unit. I would be sure to support them with plenty of Grey Hunters, and a LR is not a bad idea because it will support your assaults with more troops. Godhead
I ran a lord solo tonight in a small 1k points game. TWM, TH/SS, WTN, WTT, RA, 2x fen wolves, and saga of the bear. He killed just about everything except probably 5 csm's, which my Gh's promptly cleaned up in the very next turn tabling my opponent. I think putting a WL with a unit of fen wolves will work pretty well. The wolves are primarily there to absorb shots to allow your lord to get across the table and to start killing stuff. I would probably pass on Canis, simply because there are plenty of ways to ID someone that isn't str 10. I think he's decent enough if you have someone else drawing attention away from him, otherwise he'll get focused and downed fast. Also runic armor is sooooooooooo good. The difference between a 2+ save and a 3+ is amazing in terms of survivability, not to mention ld 10 vs ld 8. I really like the TWC/fen wolves simply because they don't require a transport. I have terrible dice when it comes to immobilization rolls. I the game I played last night I fielded 1 razorback and 1 rhino as well and I immobilized both crossing difficult terrain, this left my GH's foot slogging out of difficult terrain and playing catch up with my lord who managed to engage quick and just kept consolidating through my opponents deployment area. Zhukov
Your idea is certainly viable. I do the same thing actually, Wolf lord on TWC in a 10 man Fenrisian wolf unit. The nice thing is: in the first turn(s) (the turn(s) in which your Lord is busy getting into assault range) the enemy wont have much Long Range small arms fire ussually. Most Long Range fire is quality fire which is largely wasted on the cheap little Wolves. So it basicly gives you are very good chance of seeing combat with a Wolf Lord which has still got all his wounds. I would go with Beastslayer on him though. It makes him so much more effective against a lot of units for very few points, while Warrior born makes him better against things he doesnt really struggle with ussually. But thats how I see it. Godhead
I typically don't find warrior born to be worth it's points. Most of my opponents make sure to run away from my lord or wgbl with it, so that they get another round of shooting, which in turns costs me my bonus attacks.
