Captain Mick
I think its fine like this but on a model here and there a bit more detail to keep it less standard but still not ''overdone''. Just a idea ofcourse and sorry for the spelling :tu: . barek
The amount of bling seems to be fine. More and marines start to look like they care more about looks than function. I imagine marines wearing a talisman (pelt, tail, necklace) for good luck, or an inscribed oath or something, but it's easy to go overboard. IronSnakePriad
Just a note you should get a 5th heavy weapon for the long fangs. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/212889-space-wolves-wip/page/2/#findComment-2546254 Share on other sites
Bat33.1
Just a note you should get a 5th heavy weapon for the long fangs. I will probably add another ML into the build list along with my next Grey Hunter squad - the Wolf guard leader is already built see previous pic posts. I'm considering building a few more of the FW heresy era Mk5 and Mk6 marines in this build plus I've also got some of the MkIII marines but I'll be keeping them back for Long Fangs and Wolf Guard on the basis the veterans are more likely to have the early pattern armour. I'm unsure of what else I will build alongside the GH squad but possibly another Long Fang squad with budget option HB for facing hordes? I like to have 15 or so models on the go when painting as I find after basecoating and early stages of armour painting I can split them into groups of 5 and work on them at slightly different stages so I don't go stir crazy repeating the same painting stage time and again. I've got a FW Ven dread that's built into and primed plus a couple of speeders in the early stages of building so plenty to go at. Bat33.1
Hmm, any thoughts on which version missile launcher I should add to my LF pack - pre heresy, devastator with back pack or tac squad version? Currently my LF's are sporting 2 pre heresy, 1 tac and 1 devastator ML... elohimalpha
Always been a fan of the Dev ML w/ backpack - he looks like he's ready for a party. Great looking models - crisp and gritty. Really like the variation in every model too. Can't wait to see the dread! (OT I know, but aren't there any Astartes in the galaxy that have a launcher on their left shoulder? Suspicious . . .) arcticcanadian
"The Vindi (and drednought) were painted with my old mix of 1:1:1 shadow grey/space wolves grey/Kommando Khaki using a GW spray gun as it gives a smoother finish on vehicles - I now use an airbrush as it gives much finer control. The shading was done with thinned adeptus battle grey and edge highlights with thinned space wolves grey with a touch of shadow grey to pull it back a little as I find pure space wolves grey too harsh a contrast. I then use adeptus grey to add chips/battle damage with space wolves grey used on the lower edge to enhance some of the chipping to make it look deeper. The weathering was started with a wash of devlun mud on the lower areas -tracks, wheels, lower hull, etc. and then drybrushed with bestial brown. The next stage is weathering powders added to taste - both Mig and Forge World pigments work well - I then use Mig pigment fixer to make the powder permanent. Then once it's all dry a coat of your preffered varnish matt/satin/gloss finishes the job - I use GW purity seal as it works well. Last I will pick out vision blocks and other details in gloss ardcoat." So is this your scheme for your older baby blue models or your new take on your space wolves? if you would I would like to have your paint scheme for your older baby blue models. I prefer the baby blue color but cannot seem to find a suitable paint scheme that turns out how I want it, and seeing your older models I am impressed by them and how they turned out. If you would tell me your paint scheme for your old baby blue paint scheme I would appreciate it. Bat33.1
Hi arcticcanadian - yes that is the method I used for the baby blue models pictured. The newer, darker grey is based around adeptus grey, codex grey and fortress grey. Bat33.1
Another update of WIP I've built another ML for my Long Fangs pack plus a complete Grey Hunter pack which will be pick'n'mixed with my first squad so that one pack will be on the charge and the other stood in ready/firing poses. Also some shots of my FW SW venerable Dred... http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y87/paulj1965/GW%2040K/PB022613crop.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y87/paulj1965/GW%2040K/PB022615crop.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y87/paulj1965/GW%2040K/PB022616crop.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y87/paulj1965/GW%2040K/PB022617crop.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y87/paulj1965/GW%2040K/PB022618crop.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/212889-space-wolves-wip/page/2/#findComment-2552065 Share on other sites
Bat33.1
Another update this time for the FW venerable Dread it's not complete yet but you can see where it's heading... http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y87/paulj1965/GW%2040K/PB052621crop.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y87/paulj1965/GW%2040K/PB052620crop.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y87/paulj1965/GW%2040K/PB052622crop.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y87/paulj1965/GW%2040K/PB052624crop.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y87/paulj1965/GW%2040K/PB052626crop.jpg For the first time I've played around with some light glow effects around the plasma cannon - not sure if I've got it right any thoughts or pointers on this? Bat33.1
One thing I can say about the dread pics is that the contrast in the pics is higher than it appears in natural light I need to look at my photoshop settings or possibly my pic taking setup. Bat33.1
Thanks Captain Mick :( Love it. How many layers on the grey? Hi Mithril hound, the grey is over chaos black undercoat, first base coat of adeptus battle grey leaving the chaos black showing in the deepest recesses, next badab black wash, followed by thinned codex grey some top areas will get a second thin layer of codex grey and then an edge highlight of fortress grey - I will also pick out things like rivets at this point. The last stage is a glaze of badab black 2-3 parts water to 1 part badab black which helps to pull the layers together. If you like a more high contrast style of finish you can leave the glaze out. Bat33.1
Further update of the venerable dread. I've tried to soften the glow effect around the plasma coils while adding a bit more definition to the coils despite thinking of painting the gems green I decided to restrict the number of colours used and went with red for the gems to remove a clash with the blue of the plasma glow with the previous gems. Comments and criticism welcome ^_^ http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y87/paulj1965/GW%2040K/PB072627crop.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y87/paulj1965/GW%2040K/PB072628crop.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y87/paulj1965/GW%2040K/PB072631crop.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y87/paulj1965/GW%2040K/PB072633crop.jpg It's still a WIP the banner will be painted and fitted once I've come up with something suitable, obviously the basing still requires finishing and some of the detail painting needs to be finished too so I'll leave any more updates on this until I've completed it now.
