Resin bases

So I am thinking of making the jump to resin bases. With my old bases I always would glue my model on the base, flock it, then prime. I would then paint the base after I painted my model. With the great detail on the resin bases I am looking at now, I am thinking I would much rather paint the bases separately from my models and the attach the model after.

Anyone done this before? Any problems with doing it this way instead?

Ive got a few resin bases for my characters, and I did paint them seperately- I lightly glued the model to a different base, painted him up on that, and then glued him onto the painted resin base.

The joint is probly weaker, being glued on paint, but so far that hasnt come up.

I always like to pin models to resin bases, I find it helps with the joining of plastic/metal minis and resin bases in particular. You can also use the pin to avoid gluing the figure to another base, just glue the pin into a foot/the feet and them mount the figure on some cork or similar via the pins, simple but effective.

This was my thought as weel so as too avoid any issues with glue and whatever paint I have on the resin base. I didn't think at all of the ease of painting the model by using said pin in a "painting base". Thanks!

Just to add my opinion re: this point... My girlfriend mounted her bloodletters on painted resin bases and did indeed find that the bond between model and base seemed weaker than normal. It made enough of a difference that one of them detached itself mid-game once. Pinning is probably a good idea if you don't mind putting in the extra effort. Good luck!
