Xeraxen
Slanneshi innuendos aside, I'm curious if anyone knows how to effectivly extend the length of sword blades via adding more length from another copy of the blade [i.e. two Aspiring champion power swords]. This is because I like the longsword aspect, where it can be used in either one hand or both. I've thought about simply pinning the two lengths of blade together with glue or greenstuff- but then I'm afraid that there will be a seam or something... HALP MEH! :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/212991-sword-extensions/ Share on other sites
Baal Dropout
Perhaps have a bead of glue/greenstuff jutting out of the seam/a bit higher than the surrounding surface, such that, when sanded, the whole seam will be smooth... (in the end, you just have to do it, just have a set or so of fine sandpapers, 600- or 800-grit, I go overboard and also go 1k/1.2k grit, whatever is available at the local store) If it can't be helped, you may want to hide the seam through some (painting) effect, like powersword-arc effect or NMM/true-metallic-metallics... How about carving one up from a piece of 1mm-thick plasticard? I mean carve basic blade shape, then sand the cutting edge 'sharpening' it up, and pinning it onto the crossguard/pommel (pinning is the important part, you dont want your blade to snap off due to an unforeseen event) Hope it helps :) EDIT: moved things around (damage was done, hope OP didnt take offense) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/212991-sword-extensions/#findComment-2533975 Share on other sites
Xeraxen
When I find plasticard, I'll try that. I'll try sandpapering it. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/212991-sword-extensions/#findComment-2534882 Share on other sites
madscuzzy
If you don't have plasticard, you can try practicing on left over sprue. It is difficult, either way, especially when you are starting out and are not familiar with working with plastic. Don't worry and take some time to get used to it. Joining 2 swords together is probably harder than making it out of a single piece. You will need to align the 2 pieces of plastic, fill gaps and try to file the shape right. It also creates a pretty weak link in the joints. Using a 'whole' piece of blade, carved out of something, is stronger, as the joint is at the hilt and there is more surface area (even the wire added on the side of power weapons... even that slight bit helps the stability). greatcrusade08
if you like "long" swords then you could do worse than try the bloodletter swords, those things make great two handed weapons for MEQs Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/212991-sword-extensions/#findComment-2534923 Share on other sites
Khavos
if you like "long" swords then you could do worse than try the bloodletter swords, those things make great two handed weapons for MEQs This is exactly what occurred to me, but I've had issues finding the bits. Don't want to go out and buy a box of Bloodletters just to get the one awesome sword. madscuzzy
The are sites that sell bits. If you are looking for the longer marine-ish swords, BA has a lot of them. Previously the longest plastic marine sword belonged solely to the company champion from the command squad box. The longest metal sword was the one belonging to the space marine terminator captain. Xeonic
Blood angels. If you're bitz-siting them they'll be under sanguinary guard, Glaive Encarmine. I've seen some very effective uses of both the oversized saberish one and bastard/longsword. The Command Squad Champion sword is also quite long and looks very nice. Xeraxen
The Warstore will probably have them, I used sanguinary guard as Tzeentchian Chosen so I remember those blades. :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/212991-sword-extensions/#findComment-2537686 Share on other sites
