LordOrdGermany
Dear members of B&C, my name is Marlon and I am from Germany. I have been loving the Aurora Chapter not only since it is known that they are specialized in tank-attacks but since I started doing Warhammer 40 K and saw them first in the First Space Marine Edition (first..? I think). My current "army" consists of 2 standart suqads and 1 plasma devastor squad and I am eager to bulid more. In this thread I am going to invite you to comment and accompany my work. It would be very nice. I update the thread as soon as I have more pics than now. My ideas concerning Aurora Chapter (and loyal Space Marines in general) 1.) Every Space Marine is kind of a knight-->an individuum, so I try to find a balance between uniformed appearance (markings, weapons etc.)and individuality (purity seals, personal equippmenet ) 2.) I dislike the idea of red/blue/coloured weapons so I decided to paint the weapons black (likle GW does nowadays with the Ultramarines, too) 3.) I dislike the idea of a yellow aquila on the armour--> I paint it gold ..more ideas ask me and don´t forget to post comments on pictures and ideas. http://www.lordordsrealm.de/mediac/400_0/media/IMG_2998.JPG http://www.lordordsrealm.de/mediac/400_0/media/IMG_2999.JPG Your Marlon www.lordordsrealm.de (for more pictures and pictures of my beloved "Industrial Formation" Imperial Guard) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/212997-my-aurora-chapter-project/ Share on other sites

AyanamiKun
I like your color scheme and the execution of it. Could you make some pics in a well litt place with white surroundings? That way the small details would be better visible I think :tu: Overall: Good work, keep it up! WingsOfTheFalcon
Can't tell if it's your camera or the minis but to me the green looks a bit grainy, you might want to try watering down your paints a bit? They're very neatly painted and I like that you've gone to the effort of putting on the small details like text on the purity seals. Have you washed the models with Thraka Green? There's nice shading there but I think to make them really nice you could do with some type of highlight as well, even a simple drybrush will catch some of the edges and give you a nice effect. The other thing is the mold line on Brother Dane's helmet needs looking at asap! LordOrdGermany
@all THX for looking and comment  @AyanamiKun I will definately try to make photos with a neutral background but I want to wait until the whole squad is finsihed. @WotFalcon The thing about the mold line is something I have a different opinion about. I always wonder how the helmet is attached or can be attached on a human head. There ate some hints in books and WDs but as far as I think the helmet can´t be attached simply by pulling it over-->that is why I think the mold line on som Space Marines helemtes could be a sort of a line, whre the two halves of a helmet are attached--> a weak-spot but necessary. Yes I use Thakka Green and was taught by GW stuff how to paint Aurora Marines. Over all I am very satisfied with the results but you are right-->it is always an effort NOT to paint them grainy when it comes to the colour scheme. This is something I have to improve as well as with highlighting edges (like on Bolters etc.) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/212997-my-aurora-chapter-project/#findComment-2539209 Share on other sites
LordOrdGermany
@about "grainy" I think you can see my improvement when you compare the first pictures (of the Tactical Squad members) and the new one´s. But I like the grainy look a bit for I think that though SM armour is neatly maintenanced after a mission, the paint maybe suffers-->or better: I don´t want them to look like "parade ground marines" when they enter a battlefield Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/212997-my-aurora-chapter-project/#findComment-2539213 Share on other sites

At the end of the day though they're your minis so do what you like with them. My advice for simple edge highlightss would be to get a very small amout of paint on your brush and then use the side of the brush to catch the edges. If you use to point, it's easy for the line to wobble and look a bit slapdash. AyanamiKun
That's my reason for leaving many of the mould lines on the models, too :P I don't hear about it that often, though :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/212997-my-aurora-chapter-project/#findComment-2539242 Share on other sites

Fire Lord Captain
Is the same excuse for the helmet mold line going to be used on the missile launcher and the backpack mold line? :woot: I think a heavier wash of thraka green would do these guys a world of good, but they look cool never-the-less. LordOrdGermany
THX for response so far:-) ..nobody commented s.th. about my idea with the screw nut on the back of the missile launcher. Zeller
I like the nut on the end of the missile launcher. Gives the weapon a javelin appearance. Vulkan454
Great work on those marines :D Keep the nut on the back of the ML because it gives the weapon a sensible place to load the missile from IMO. Can I have the recipe for your green please?, I would like to try it out. Keep up the good work. You've got a nice start going here, I'll just echo what was said above: Spend the extra time cleaning the models, they'll thank you for it when you paint.
