If I'm running non-Jumppack Deathcompany, I go the Reclusiarch

If I'm not running DC A Libby with shield and Unleash Rage

If I go above 2,000 points I will try to include Seth

One day I will be running a full Deathcompany Army and a counts as Astorath will be running that

The more I play BA, and 40k for that reason, the more I am finding that names charecters really arent all that great...I have yet to run Mephiston, as I have been running only a Jump Pack list, I am still trying to figure out a mech/foot list that I like, Meph will most likely be in that though. Back to my point the named models kind of suck and seem to be 1 trick ponies, I am finding that I would much by a generic Librarian, after playing BT for a while, I love lib's, and put the saved poinst in to better equipped units.

Said it day one, I'll say it today. The I5 Reclusiarch. Solid HQ for CC lists and lists with a mech'/terminator based 'deathstar' units especially.

My 2nd favorate would be a tie between librarians for mech'/jp based lists (but I'd probably want 2 and perhaps make use of 2 HGs) and Mephiston.

If librarians had 3 wounds and/or one more initiative point I would tie them for first no matter their increase in cost.

seriously? Best hq? A giant flump. And the unit to go with it is a big cup of hot chocolate. Never fails for me... I get why the question was asked, but my answer makes about as much sense as any of the previous ones. There is no best hq without the context of which army type/list its in. Comparing without that context is meaningless. All of the hq's have their strengths, even boring bog standard captains. But it totally depends on how you play, what your army is, and to a greater or lesser extent on who you are playing against.

While this answer is quite true, it's also not helpful at all to a new player or one who wants to know the particular uses people have for the BA HQ's.

and yet it is helpful if they take the time to think. All the opinions are subjective, and there is no best hq. Realising that, and realising that a so-called 'bad choice' could be the perfect unit to fit their needs, is probably the best thing to learn from this thread. What works well with a certain unit for a certain player might not work well for them. Ideas, yes. Stratagems, yes. But a statement that x is the best really wont help very much. Still think the best unit is a hot choc tho:-)!
