Greetings,

Welcome to the blog of an aspiring painter. Follow the trials and tribulations of my glorious journey as I attempted to achieve the heights of skill that will allow qualification into Golden Demon and become good enough to take out a trophy or two. As you can imagine it will be a long road, but it's something I made a conscious decision about and settled into achieving this goal.

I was pointed to this forum by a local buddy, I wanted greater feedback and comments on my work. He suggested I take the big, bold leap and jump on a forum with significant traffic and a good reputation. So here I am

I plan on consistent updates but understand I am limited to posting my efforts around marines of all variety.

This thread will involve commission painting I do for other people, but the catch is I don't charge anything for the work. My only goal is explained above and I don't see any problem with painting other people's toys for practice.

Let's say I am surprised at the interest just locally my idea has generated.

First Job: 20 Chosen Choas Marines (16 hours work)

The job is already completed but below is a link to the pictures on photobucket and my fairly rough notes. The work is all completed at this point but from the photos and notes you can guage the progress.

Choas Chosen Marine Pictures

Painting Notes:

The second job is from sonofhorus, 20 assorted Chosen to be painted.

- Already assembled and painted chaos black.

- Touched one chosen up with choas black since it had red splashes on it at random intervals.

- A few look like they have been drybrushed heavily with Codex Grey.

- Drybrushed lightly all 20 Chosen with Codex Grey.

- Shining Gold added to the shoulder guards trimmed along the edges except a couple of bad muffs.

- Covered bad muffs on the shoulder pads by painting the whole shoulder pad shining gold wink.gif

- Boltguns, Flamers, Meltaguns, Plasma guns and Plasma Pistols are painted Boltgun Metal.

- The first 10 Chosen (bottom half - legs) are lightly edged with Boltgun Metal.

- After 5 are completed I decide they'll look better if I do this in more detail.

- More detailed parts are picked out with Boltgun Metal. Chest Pieces, Legs, the groves between the legs, groin and arms, microphone bitz, backpack bitz, the end of the gloves, helmut bitz.

- My pot of Flesh paint looks....very evil, sacraficed to the chaos gods.

- My pot of Liche Purple paint looks....even more evil, sacraficed to the chaos gods.

- I discover I have 12 pots of Codex Grey in my paint draw armata_PDT_05.gif

- Dwarf Flesh used on the open face marines.

- Blood Red used for eyes on marines with helmuts.

- I find a fresh pot of Liche Purple and the deamonic heads become purple.

- Shining Gold added to deamonic heads for eyes and nose.

- Dwarf Flesh used on the mouth of deamonic head one, now it looks like a clown unsure.gif

- Shining Gold drybrushed across the teeth of deamonic head.

- Babab Black Wash very lighly added to the mouth/teeth of deamonic head one.

- Shining Gold very lightly drybrushed across said teeth.

- No longer looks like a clown and looks suitably deamonic laugh.gif

- Shining Gold drybrushed on deamonic heads.

- Leviathan Purple wash lightly added across the entire head.

- Bleached Bone added to various trophy skulls on the squad.

- Aspiring Champion gets Shining Gold on his skulls.

- Banner pole painted Boltgun Metal.

- Trophy Marine Helmut painted Hawk Turquoise.

- Babab Black added to Trophy Marine Helmut.

- Pony Tail Bitz are painted in Graveyard Earth.

- The parts holding the pony tail together get Scorched Brown.

- Shinging Gold is used on the chest pieces and helmut bitz of the Apiring Champion.

- Scorpion Green used on Backpack tubing.

- Scorpion Green used to pick out tubing and Nobby bitz on a Meltagun guy.

- Flesh Wash used on open faced marines.

- The first 10 Chosen are deflied with Devlan Mud, used to pick across every painted surface I have done except for the bottom half of the marine legs, any surface not previously washed and anything that was left chaos black.

- Blood Red used for eyes on open faced marines.

- Red Ink applied to eyes of every marine (except deamonic head guys)

- Meltagun ends drybrushed Scorched Brown.

- Flamer end drybrushed Scorched Brown.

- Marine Backpack vent bitz drybrushed Scorched Brown.

- Marine helmut and non helmut vent bitz drybrushed Scorched Brown.

Second Squad painted in virtually the same method with a few deviations for odd heads and slight individuality.

As always, comments, feedback, suggestions or anything else is appreciated.
