Thanks a lot :D And yeah, without the Wash they would just not look very good. Next project is to adapt all my Marines to my changed color scheme. This mainly means replacing the white chapter symbols with silver chapter symbols and fixing the backpacks.

I also completed my crater set and the first 5 orks, but I won't post them here. If you're interested: My Blog

And here is my newest unit: Captain Sicarius. He was fun to paint but I probably will never use him in a game. :) I also completed the first of the two Sergeant Chronus minis, another one I only like but will never use...

I'd like to offer a suggestion, if I may:

The way you painted the book on your librarian in terminator armor is just fantastic, but I've noticed that all the purity seals on your other models (like your captain in TDA) are just plain white. If you used the technique for painting the pages of the book and applied it to the purity seals on your other models, I think it would really add to the overall effect of the models. I think the plain white is just too bright for your color scheme.

Also, you can go down to any art store and get a really really fine archival pen. I use one of those to make little squiggly marks on my purity seals and books and things and it makes it look like there's writing on it. It's really quick, really easy, and it adds detail to the finished product.

Just trying to be helpful, but your models are looking pretty good anyway!

omg, no post here in ages :P Thanks for the input! I mainly painted my Dystopian Wars fleet in the meantime and now I am doing some Marines again. So here is my Forgeworld Dreadnought. And yes, the picture quality sucks, but I did not have my good cam on hand ;)

Now I have a question: I just painted my first Iron Armour Marine and am unsure if I should keep drybrushing my marines with Mithril Silver or not. Here is a photo of him:

And here for comparison some more marines which I got table-top ready today. Wash is still missing but I will not apply that until I have all marines painted so far (means 15 to go).

If you are taking the dipping way to your minis, check out Army Painter Galleries

something you might consider.

any ways, don't worry about your painting level, at least not yet. but gradually get into the fold, try out new techniques ask for advice, It'll come if you keep at it.

But advice i will give you, keep the painting very neat, it is half the success, even dipping wont hide sloppy colors, just make things sloppier.

any ways, great progress. my hat is off brother

I am busy at the moment  I scrapped the Drybrush and decided to highlight the fine details differently. The Marine on the left is done (ok, Badab Black Wash is missing, but that will be applied in a few weeks or monrths). Ignore the Marine on the right, it is not finished :)

Black is a very strong contrast, and not a color, so when you employ it to color areas, you get a comic book art feel to it.

a brownish/ warm shadows are more natural to colors, well a warm blue would be for blue areas, warm red in shadows on a cool red light areas and so forth, its from color theory really.

But to avoid complexity, since you are doing a table top paint job, not like a GD level, still adding a warm wash for the shadows will look a little more natural. And the brown ink against the Ultramarines blue or Regal Blue, will be a warm shade.

I did not wash/ink Calgar, yet. I am actually waiting for the rest of my army to be done and then I will wash ~ 30-40 minis in one go. So yes, until then he does look kinda flat ;) Overall I am not a fan of highlighting, I just don't like it very much ^^ But wash is going to come quite soon! Thanks for the comments :)

I agree i'm don't like massive highlighting but i find that if you paint UM Blue then wash the whole thing with Badab Black, Redo the Blue and then mix 60:40 UM Blue to SW Grey and do very small highlights it gives a subtle effect adding to the 3D ness

This is what i've been working on so far.

Simple but effective in my mind.

Thanks for the input ;)

Here is my newly finished Cyclone equipped Terminator (arms are magnetized, Cyclone is not. I just have enough Terminators anyway). In the background are my new dice :)

I recently finished three more Terminators. They are standing on a metal grid surface with sand in between :P Their arms are magnetized and can be exchanged for Stormbolter, Fist or Terminator Heavy Weapons.

I just finalized by new bike squad. Torso, legs and arms are fully removable (partially magnetized) to allow all weapon options offered for this unit. I plan on building Command Squad parts to completely transform a normal bike squad into a command squad. Attached to the current squad is my captain in robes with a relic blade. Also note the use and mix of normal bike and DA bitz :D

No comments? ;)

And here some more finished things. I recently acquired varius bitz and pieces (DA, GK, BT) and now I am incorperating them into my existing army. One marine had to part with his legs and received brand new Grey Knight legs. The legs received a new Grey Knights torso. Here is the result. Please be aware that the model I ripped apart was one of my oldest and has huge mold lines :) I did not want to repaint it so they have been left on...

I also finally finished Carneus (again). He is now sporting a helmet because I dislike naked heads and he also has a bitz-based life counter. The four markers on the base are magnetized and can be removed.

In additonal I finished the new base for my first Dreadnought (the one from the BR set) and it's plasma arm. I used the Vallejo wash on the arm and I am not that happy with it actually ...
