Going Pre Heresy

Hey guys.

 

I've been caught up in the pre heresy wave, and after going over the primarchs over and over again, I seem to always end up with Russ. The problem is that I already have about 5000 points of Space Wolves, painted in a not-so-pre-heresy colour. So what should I do? Make a new SW army? Pick another Primarch?

 

I was thinking about doing World Eaters, with Angron, since they are also very assaulty and all that, but they are so... dull. The Wolves have all that Norse/Celtic myth and iconography to go with, and the WE's have nothing. Just blood and aggression. Hate it :P

 

Anyway - what do you guys think? Any suggestions for other primarchs that are similar? Maybe White Scars? Or something very different, like Death Guard or Alpha Legion?

ever consider slowly re-doing your Wolf army? slowly strip them pack by pack? that way you can update your army by getting new bits.. kit-bash, even get to redo color your scheme to pre heresy, and still have a Space Wolf army! that way

The only issue see is the pre heresy weapons in the post heresy age...I mean if the pre heresy fire dwindles then you have models with weapons that may not "fit" Painting isnt an issue because a dark grey color scheme in the 41st M is ok, there are even Brown, yes brown, wolves. So if you are going to have to do a new army, might as well use the wolves you have now with updates for 30k weapons and colors, instead of investing money into a completely new army. Unless you have money burning a hole in your pocket, and if that is the case my address is...

If you want assaulty Legion then maybe Blood Angels (but with much much less jump packs) with some angelic iconography they can look pretty cool?

 

Or maybe Night Lords (with more jump packs then pre-Heresy BA), but not much iconography or myths here?

 

White Scars also could be fun. They're pretty savage ones.

 

Or think how cool will pre-Heresy Thousand Sons look while standing against your Space Wolves.

 

If I were you I'd try not to build another SW army, as you already have one.

You could re-paint your current army (and save alot of money), or you could start a new force and play them together in apocalypse.

 

And how big army are you planing to make? another 5000 points, or somewhat less this time?

 

Have you considered 13th company?

I have been thinking about just repainting, since my army is kinda PH (used the chaos warriors with GS) but some of it is that I want a new army. My wolves are more or less fininshed, I think.

 

Thousand Sons could be really cool, actually. Don't really like the Magnus-fella, but the whole egyptian-psyker-theme is kinda cool and the red can be very good looking. That is also a bit of change in tactics from my wolves, and that might be good for my play as well B)

 

And yes, I have been thinking about the 13th. But in a PH-campaign I might just as well use my SW that I already have as 13th. Maybe repaint them at a later stage.

This is image is amazing.

I wouldn't worry about the PH wolves being whatever colour your army is, so long as it's vaguely blue, then you can run with it.

Yeah, true. Still, it feels kinda wrong to me that they are not dark grey :P But I might as well build me a Russ model and some other cool PH stuff for my wolves, and paint it in my regular scheme. THEN I can get some PH Thousand Sons or whatever :P

@Natanael how about Dark Angels? or Raven Guard? or loyalist Death Guard? or just redo your Space Wolves like I said? LOL

Dark Angels - no ^_^ Dont like the dress boys.

 

Raven Guard - Corax is cool and all, but the paint scheme is a bit booring. Same goes for Iron Hands.

 

Loyal Death Guard - had that in mind, but then no. Booring paint scheme I think, and without nurgle they seem a bit non-special. Just some waste of marine, slowly walking towards the enemy, bolters blazing.

 

RIght not I'm brobably gonna go for the economic way - just getting some new PH stuff for my army, and then evolve into a new army with my Wolves staying the same colour as they are.

 

Also - thanks for the suggestions. It really helps the process of thinking ;)
