GLD
Hello all! In line with all my commission work, I am trying my best to put some paint onto my own models! I have started a Blood Ravens army (and Forgeworld have very helpfully just released some Blood Ravens transfers!). Here is a WIP Dreadnought and my Multi-Melta tactical marine that was the test model for the army... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v646/GLD1/Dreadnoughtwip.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v646/GLD1/mmtest.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v646/GLD1/mmtest1.jpg The entire army is sprayed with Army Painter Dragon Red - you can see the original colour on the dreadnought base and sarcophagus scroll. I then painted all the metal work and any black/cream bits, and re-touched the red with some thin coats of blood red. I then used devlan mud to dull down the red. Highlights were made with blood red, then blazing orange and vomit brown. This give the armour an orange look, so I then used baal red to glaze over and bring it all back in line - I am very happy with how it has turned out. I will be doing a more in depth Blood Raven tutorial as soon as i get a chance!! Firepower
Looks pretty good. The duller shade of red fits BR well. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/213225-wip-blood-ravens/#findComment-2537000 Share on other sites
NuclearMessiah
They look awsome, I am going to be starting some Blood Ravens myself soon. One question did you have to do a matte varnish over your transfer? Brother Valerius
Looks great. What do you do for the cream bits? I'm attempting Blood Ravens for a Christmas present for a friend, and those are giving me some trouble. GLD
Thanks for the commets... I haven't put any varnish on the transfers yet, by will probably have too as they are quite shiny! The bone coloured bits are fairly easy - use a dheneb stone base coat, followed by a wash of gryphonne sepia in the recess parts. I then use 2 thin layers of bleached bone, leavin the sepia showing. This can be highlighted by adding some skull White to the bone, and finally with pure skull White - hope that helps! Aeddon
Very nicely done! I especially like the high area/low area contrast on the marine. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/213225-wip-blood-ravens/#findComment-2537054 Share on other sites
