Myxx
I have always liked the Stronos (LC/TLPG) pattern Razorback and recently finished making my own conversion. It was very simple, and I believe, effective. There has been more than a little discussion and interest in this turret in the forums recently, so I present my conversion for the Stronos pattern Razorback turret. I start with the basic Twin-Linked Las Cannon turret and a pair of basic Space Marine plasma guns. For tools, simply an exacto knife, a razor saw, a flat file and some plastic glue. To begin, remove the barrel from the right LC just forward of the third "ring" on the base of the barrel. Also, remove the frame rail that runs underneath the LC barrel, again just forward of the third groove. I used the razor saw for these cuts and it was clean and simple. File smooth. Next, the plasma guns need trimming. If you look closely at the side of PGs, directly to the rear of the power cell is what looks like a wire or cable molded into the weapon. Using this as a guide, trim across (from top to bottom) the entire weapon, removing the rear portion of the weapon, the grip and the stock. Again, I used the razorsaw and the cut was very clean. If the cut is straight, you will need the exacto knife to trim away the remnants of the trigger guard. Next, just forward of the trigger guard on the bottom of the PG, there is a small round bump. There is a seam to use as a guide, trim away the round portion. Next, file the two sides of the palsma guns that will be connected, (i.e. file the right side of the left gun, and the left side of the right gun.) Glue the plasma guns to each other and allow to set a moment. Then glue the PG's onto the trimmed barrel of the LC. (While that sets, I trimmed off the frame rail under the barrel of the other LC, again at the third groove, so that the mounts look a little more similar.) Mount the two weapon systems on the turret assembly. Finally, when I mounted the armored cowling that covers the rear portion of the turret, I mounted it backwards. If you mount it backwards, the cowling should end flush with the join between the LC barrel and the TLPG, just even with the rear edge of the power cells on the PG, and hiding the join from the conversion. Success! A Stronos-pattern, Las-Cannon/Twin-Linked Plasma Gun turret. (Thanks for looking at this brothers, it is my first attempt at a tutorial. I hope this made sense and that the pictures show up clear enough. ) Reason for edit: Making the pictures actually show up. Lysimachus
Excellent tut and a very nice finished product! Have you thought about submitting this to the Librarium Tutorials section? Just checked and suprisingly, they don't seem to have one for Stronos pattern weapons! Myxx
Umm, no... mine is, ummm, different... cause, I, uh, put the armor on backwards... yeah that's it... :) (Actually, I do remember seeing yours (cause the fantastic yellow paint job is very memorable) and used it as my inspiration. I just figured I'd take some pics while I was cutting and pasting since there are like 3 different threads lately asking how to do it.)
