Founding and Origins

Parent Chapter

****Original Record Not Found****

****New Record Added****

It is unsure what chapter supplied the training cadre and Gene-seed for the Sea Drakes due to several Deleted and incomplete records.

Speculation of several scholars and researchers say it was possibly the Salamanders Chapter, as well as Gene-Seed.

Lost to the Imperium

Presumably, sometime in during the 18th Founding the Sea Drakes were formed by recruits from several small worlds across the imperium and trained by a training Cadre from the Salamanders. After several years of hardened training the yet unnamed chapter finally reached a full companies strength. The training cadre confident set off with the First Company and all the resources granted to the fledgling chapter in search for a homeworld. Shortly after the chapters fleet jumped into the warp all communication was lost and the chapter was deemed lost.

The East

Several years after their jump into the warp the Sea Drakes finally emerged. The years spent in the warp crippled their fleet and their hope. In the emergence it became apparent they had ended up far from their initial destination and were likely deep in the eastern fringe of space. Several of the ships carrying much needed supplies, weaponry and bulk of their gene-seed supply had been lost to the warp. Immediately after this discovery the remainder of the fleet set off towards the nearest planet to gather themselves. Their arrival to the planet was not as fruitful as they would have hoped. Finding the planet was mostly water with few and far between clusters of islands that were scarcely populated by seafaring humanoids the unnamed chapter seemed at their end before they could even truly begin.

The few remaining members of the training cadre quickly set out to reorganize and set out their original duty of this journey. Construction of a fortress was put into motion on a large isolated island far from any other landmass was set in motion. Things quickly became worse for the chapter as large sea creatures began disrupting their ability to build. The surviving 50 marines lead by the only surviving chaplain of the training cadre fought day and night against these monstrous creatures.

Naming those with no Name

Chapter history indicates the origin of their name coming from the sea creatures the chapter fought, and still fight, upon their efforts to construct their fortress. The record indicates a battle with an exceptionally larger creature which to this date has yet to be recorded again. The record reads as a report from a serf who watched on:

The sea air was cold that night as the sea just started to calm after the last attack by those water daemons. As I turned to go about my duties frantic cries from several other servants to the Emperor's bravest filled the air. All I remember is watching as men ran past and the brave warriors ran to the edge of the platform to defend our efforts. It all happened so fast at first. It was almost as if this new daemon emerged without even disturbing the surface of the water. A chill swept across everyone at the size of this creature being almost ten times bigger then the others. After that all I remember is what their chaplain shouted. "To me my brothers let us show this daemon the wrath of the Emperor and send this foul beast back into the sea with his fellow drakes!"

The record cuts off after this caption and is only noted with the slaying of the creature and the chapter taking on the name Sea Drakes. No attacks are reported on the fortress by such creatures sense this battle.

Aquosus

After the completion of their fortress and their new found name the Sea Drakes began efforts to understand the world they had arrived on. Making contact with human seafaring inhabitants events and life on the planet began to become clear. The "daemons" as they were originally refered to as were acctually dragon like creatures indigenous to the planet. Further discovery of a xeno lizard-men race in service to these dragons further brought issues to the sight of the Sea Drakes. Many of the human tribes had been enslaved by these Xenos and are forced to work in some kind of cave tunnel system, of still unknown location on the planet. It became apparent to the Drakes that freeing the human peoples would be a much harder task then originally thought possible with their current resources.

Organization

Companies

Due to their ever shortening supply of Gene-Seed stock the Sea Drakes only maintain 5 Companies ranging 100-125 marines

Combat Doctrine

With their lack of a forge-world or their ability to be resupplied until just recently with their return of a connection to the imperium, the Sea Drakes became adept fighters with close combat weaponry. The most favored weapon being lightning claws. Assault Marines have become a mainstay of their fighting forces due to the lack of major landmass aside from small bundles of islands, most of which are interconnected with an underground tunnel system.

Adapting to a Water World

With their arrival to the planet under limited resources and having to deal with such an issue as adapting to a water world the Sea Drakes had to convert alot of their vehicles. Most mainstay tanks such as predators and whirlwinds where lost in the initial fleets trip through the warp. However, they did arrive with a large number of Land Speeders and Rhinos. With the Rhinos being in all ways useless due to the amount of water the few tech-priests set out to convert the rhinos into boat transports for troops. Land speeders where also converted to float or hover over water and move between the two terrains with ease. As well several other vehicles where broken down and turned into either several warships or transport vessels.

Mottos

"For the Emperor, For the Sea"

It is assumed the Sea Drakes where founded around the 18th founding, straight from the Salamanders Chapter. A Large mobile fleet stocked with enough samples of Gene-Seed and weapons to make several chapters worth of marines.

Before I go any further. Whuuuuuaaaaattt!?

Several chapters of marines? They just sent a whole boat load of the super-precious-marines-die-every-day-just-to-retrieve-this-stuff is sent off into the void? Irresponsible much? I can't ever see this happening. Marine chapters are created on Mars, exclusively so far as I know. Why waste valuable fleet assets guarding a giant floating target when you can create a chapter within the Imperium's heartland and stupidly well defended home system?

The rest of the IA has more than a few plot holes, but since this is the opening gambit you've used to get your chapter where it is now, or where it needed to be to become who they are I think you need to address this and let other changes flow from here.

I think you should stick to the standard method of chapter creation here, rather than going off reservation quite as far as you have since it's simply not making much sense.

Call me biased, but did you ever think of tying your chapter in some way to the Iron Snakes Chapter?

They are specialists in close combat who are very ritualised about water and the sea.

In order to become a chapter initiate they must kill a mighty Sea Wyrm.

Sounds like a close match for a chapter based on a water world.

Lexicanum - Iron Snakes.
