Rybnick
I've been toying recently with the idea of converting Gabriel Seth into a counts as Castellan Zargo the chapter master of the Angels Encarmine, as I love Seth's rules and his mini. My only reservation is I've never heavily converted a metal mini (granted all I'm really going to do is file off the flesh tearer specific bits so "heavy converting" might be overstating it), can anyone give me some good advice for working with metal mini's? I only recently started back into 40k and my experience for the most part has been only with plastics. Also pic's of other converted Seth's would be neat to see. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/213455-gabriel-serth-conversions/ Share on other sites

Tabgoi
Previously, when working with metal minis I would use files, exactos, and jewelers saws exclusively. Since then I have learned the joys of a dremel with a really thin cutting wheel. I reccomend mounting the model on a good quality vise (GW one did not quite cut it for me, so I went with a more heavy duty one, still use the GW one for painting and sculpting though). What I do once it is mounted in the vice properly is use both hands to steady it and cut down lightly on an angle into the detail work I want to remove taking just a little bit off each time, and I mean little. Pewter is really soft so aim paper thin, it will go deaper then you think. Once you get most of it you can switch to a grind wheel and then files. I find it much easier to shape curved surfaces with the grind wheels. Use eye pro too, because that pewter will fly right into your eyes. Good light source helps as well. If you make a mistake green stuff and some dental putty sculpting toons will fix it fast. I used this to get all the inquisition stuff off an Inquisitor Tyrus model to start a conversion for a deamon prince for the 4th edition Chaos codex. When I went to convert a DC model with the idea that a devistator fell to the rage mid fight and decided to use his plasma cannon as a blunt instrument. Metal figure with a shoulder pad and elbow fully attached, think it was a veteran assault sergeant or something I got as a bits piece from some GW event or another. Cut thru with a jewelers saw so I could save the shoulder for later. Cleaned it up with the dremel, sculpted some basic arms to hold it over his head using paper clips as the basic form. Fleshed it out a bit and got the shoulder pads on and then worked on the arms. When people are cool with it I count it as a power fist to replicate the weapon randomly discharging during combat as well as the weapon being extremely unweildy. Point being, I am not good with this stuff really, but if you have the right tools it is pretty easy. shatter
^^ I don't have those tools though... so I did something a bit cheaty. I live two doors down from a manufacturing jeweler. He butchered my new Sanguinor (I hate the pose) for me for a modest fee (turns out he painted metal historical miniatures for export to GB decades ago)... and it was fast! The job was pretty good and green stuff to pose and a toothbrush to polish will finish it... when I can motivate myself. *sigh* Don't tell anyone! *runs away* Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/213455-gabriel-serth-conversions/#findComment-2539990 Share on other sites
igotsmeakabob!!
Oh man, Shatter please post your new Sanguinor. I need to figure out what to do with mine... because I really don't care for the pose. shatter
It's a pile of metal bits. lol Every limb is dis-articulated. Hands, elbows, shoulders, hips, knees, feet and... head. It will be made into attempt no. 2 of trying to make him look like he hit the ground hard on one knee, making an impact crater with his hands on the ground, sword hilt and hand at two o'clock, tip at 11 o'clock. 50mm base probably as I'm asking a lot of a 30mm. To be honest, I doubt I'll be getting around to him anytime soon... but he's ready for when I do. *sigh* Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/213455-gabriel-serth-conversions/#findComment-2540083 Share on other sites
MRCHAOS
He means converting the Seth mini into something else, not converting somethign else to represent Seth hmmm on reading the post again I see what you mean! But if he is dead set on useing the Metal Seth model the only things worth doing would be: 1) Changing his head 2) Changing his weapon 3) Changing his power pack 4) Taking all Flesh Tearers insignia off Apart from them 4 it is pointless doing anything else with that model as it all ready has a great action pose! As for converting metal you will need a dremal, pin vice, greenstuff and paper clips to use as pins The reason I made mine was that I hate Seth's head he looks scared (not like hes angry) plus the wings and icon on his power pack look silly to me, and I think this is what most other people dont like about him, so I dont think you will find hardly any conversions of the Seth model! Rybnick
Thanks for all the suggestions guys! I'm going to get started on this project sometime in the next week or so (finishing up a couple rifflemen dreadnoughts and a TDA Sanguinary Priest at the momment). I'm shooting for grinding off all the fleshtearers insignia and replacing it with something a little more angels encarmine or vanilla blood angel themed, likely just the blood drop with bat wings. I might change the backpack to be just a regular iron halo with perhaps a grail in the center, but I kind of like the stock one so that may stay depending on how I feel at the time. I'll update this thread with my WIP Castellan when I get started.
