I'm kinda shooting for the look that the BA's had on the cover of 40k's 2nd edition box cover. I wanted to get yellow in and I seem to recall black stripes featuring too. I think there might be a little too much yellow on this guy, but as he's a test mini it's not that big an issue :D. Over the next couple of days I'll get the highlights done for this guy and his base done. I forgot to say when I first posted him that he's a junior/trainee techmarine which is why he has the Admech symbol on his right shoulder...

cheers

Looking even better with the yellow. It does reming me of the old school paint schemes. This thread just keeps getting better and better. I am interested in that head as well, drop me a pm when you have time I have something else to discuss with you anyway.

Thanks for all the comments guys .

noctus, let it begin indeed. I've just had a look at your thread and I like the way the story starts, and the Sergeant is shaping up well too.

Baal Dropout, yeah it's Army Painter Pure Red, shaded with Devlan Mud, washed with Baal Red and will be highlighted with Blood Red and Blazing Orange before a thinned Baal Red glaze. I really would recomment Army Painter coloured undercoats though...

Blood Angel Scout, do you not like the yellow on the bolt pistol at all or is it just this partivular bolt pistol?

mikhail and sword bretheren, I'll be in touch shortly

  • 2 weeks later...

So it's not much of an update I'm afraid, but it is something. More will be coming in the next couple of days as I spent tonight cleaning up the arms, torsos and bolters as well as doing this:

Still gotta clean up the helmets, backpacks and shoulderpads and then I'll be ready to start sticking bits to cocktail sticks ready for painting  Before that though there will be an unpainted squad shot and a story update...

Thanks

W
ith a whisper of hydraulics the cover on the arming rack slid back to reveal five newly forged boltguns with integrated flamers. Beneath them row upon row of magazines loaded with specialised ammunition glinted menacingly in the harsh sunlight. "Behold my Brothers, I have given you your mission, now I give you the tools which will aid you in it's completion" Chapter Master Raldoron said, sweeping his hand over the stowed weapons.

The five Astartes stepped forward and four of them took up bolters and began examining them. A look of surprise crossed the Chapter Master's face, "is there a problem Sergeant?" he asked, genuinely concerned. "No my Lord" replied Sergeant Valias "I mean no disrespect" he began, before glancing down and placing his hand on the Umbra pattern bolter at his side. "I have fought and killed the enemies of the Emperor with this weapon since I first departed Terra at the commencement of our great crusade" he continued, meeting the steady gaze of the Chapter Master. "It has yet to fail me in my duty to prosecute my enemies and so I hope you will understand my desire to finish this war with this boltgun, my boltgun in my hands".

Raldoron considered his sergeant for a moment before he replied. "Aye" he said "you are right Valias. A fine weapon such as yours should not be cast aside while there is still has work for it" he continued, before placing his hand upon Valias's pauldron "perhaps though, these might interest you?" he said, gesturing with his other hand towards the stacked magazines in the arming rack "we're calling them Vengeance rounds..."

I know it's been too long since I provided a proper update on this project, but after a couple of evening's work I finally have something worth showing. I'm pleased to present the 90% assembled Squad Valias:

Their bolter's aren't glued in place for ease of painting, the same applies to their shoulder pads. They're cleaned up and ready to go, but I thought I'd paint them separately as well. Lastly I still need to clean up the backpacks which is why they don't have them yet. The mini's are 'soft pinned' to the bases (not glued) so that the bases can be painted separately as well.

So there you have it. Thankyou to all those people who rightly reminded me to get on with this. Hopefully you are somewhat pacified by this update :)

Cheers

Hmm, benefactor? >=D

Man, you never cease to amaze...pretty models all around. I like the fluff for the new squad. And its cool how they all have the combis. :P

The tank with the Baal piece for the front was a genius idea. I really like the look, and just checked the model out as well, may...have to invest... <_<

Curse you and your pretty models!

Thanks guys. I'm trying to use the fluff to show why some of the things are the way they are. If you like it then I guess it's working :).

Indeed man, they're working great sculpting the character of each of your figs ^_^
