Obliterator Paint Scheme Question

Greetings one and all,

I'm looking for some inspiration/ideas for how to finish off my Fallen Obliterators.

I don't have a pic so far, so bear with me - I may be able to get one up tonight, but till then you'll have to use your imagination :P

Some background to my problem....

1. As some of you may know, I have a Fallen Army I've been messing about with for some time now. They are essentially painted in the pre-heresy Dark angel Paint scheme. For instance...

2. I don't believe that Oblits should never be painted in Legion colours (despite what some say about them being seperate groups who ware no longer part of the Legions). My best source from this is one of the BL Word Bearer stories, where they have an Oblit as part of the warband.

I also like Oblits painted in Legion colours (certainly more than the standard paint scheme). For instance of my Word Bearer oblits...

Please note that they are still recognizably Word Bearers despite the lack of Word Bearer symbols.

Here's my problem though...

Due to the paint scheme I'm working with, the Fallen paint scheme seems, I dunno, unfinished? Lacking something? I'm trying to find a way to make my Fallen Oblits look "Fallen", and not just black.

There's no room for Dark Angel Symbols. I fear that adding silver banding will make them look like they're from the Black legion. And red banding seems... well, I dunno... Weird?

;)

I promise to get pics up later today, but till then, anyone got any suggestions? If y'all want to post pics of your legion specific Oblits to help me out feel free.

Cheers

Humm what about paintin them like your fallens.. and maby ad some fallen ikons inplace of the wordbearers writing on the pauldrun and leg guard.. that way you still have them in wour Legion colours and tie them in the same colours.. :) unless you make some of your own with GS devastators weapons oand terminators + maby some possest and spawn bits to make them weard and morpht.. ? its the way I did + some dryad faces and arms for demonic weardness :) looks very nice in my opinion :) hehe.. or check out the Awesome Dan the Deamons oblitirators for your ideas? Im chure thinking about them myself.. ^_^ hehe..

Cheers on a very nice Fallen army btw... love the champion with deamon faces on the pauldruns ;)

Because Obliterators have Feelings too!

I agree they can, but they should not be systematicly done with the color scheme of the legion they are with (mixed inter-legion Obliterators band would be pretty cool in fact)

what about Grey banding? or even Dark green to match the actual Green tone of the dark angel (they did not came with this color from nowhere, did they?)

What we've got here is a failure to communicate :) (Age test - a cookie for the first to spot the reference)

Thanks for the quick responses guys, but I think I may have messed up how I phrased my question. I think the addition of some pics (which I now have) might help.

@ Xavier Targhost... I have painted them like my Fallen, but I fear that they don't look like my fallen. or at least not enough like my Fallen to stand on their own. I'd add icons - i think this may be the best route actually - but I don't know that my detail work is good enough to put decent sized Fallen Icons onto the areas which are clear. And yeah, while making my own Oblits, or adding stuff will definitely make them more "mine", I don't know that they will be more Fallen. I'm glad you like them so far though - they're a work in progress, but when folks say they like them, it always makes me want to keep going.

@tiny sam... i think you and I may be coming at the statement about armour variation from the opposite sides (I believe Oblits should be legion specific) but no matter ;) You're right though, intermixed legion Oblits could be cool, but I reckon might lead to a rainbow coloured warband :D

As for grey or greenbanding (green? GREEN? What's wrong with you man, these are Dark Angels. REAL Dark Angels!!!! Sheesh!!!! Sorry. Don't know what happened there. ;) ) I think grey or green may take them further from being dark Angels.

Anyway, Here are some pics of where I'm at with them for now.

So.

Do you think they look Fallen enough? Can you think of anything I can add to make them more so? Ading Icons maybe, but I'm not really sure where. Any suggestions?

Or do you think they are good to go (clean up not withstanding.)

Cheers

mate i liek them.

i dont think the fallen would be into the whole spikey, overly ornate chaos decals.

I think the subtle paintjob works wonders.

maybe throw in some eight pointed stars on the armour somwhere and its a done deal

Cool Oblits Widowmaker,

IMO they are good to go and really tie in with the rest of you'r Fallen. And with the Fallen Angles black is the only way to go. I believe it has to do with the pre-heresy colourscheme. Why they didn't change it who knows? Probebly to tick of the Dark Angels and forcing them to change thier colours!

And I second the opinion of tiny sam regarding the loincloth.

Cheers,

Vandael
