Resin base ?

I posted this in the PCA forums and barely got a nibble. Since most if not all of you have done runes at some point, maybe you could help me out.

After ink wash to try and get some depth to the runes:

I need some way to make the runes come up from the rock. Maybe skull white edge the letters? Enchanted blue, ice blue, white highlight then with a super fine brush?

I guess the question is, what or who is going to be using that nice base? for me, it all depends on the mini itself. For contrast reasons... you don't want the runes to take away from the mini or vice versa. Does that make sense? I like the ice blue on blue/grey space wolves. I usually go red runes with pre-heresy colored wolves

That is one base of 30 for my GH packs. So you are looking at a normal troop base.

Perhaps a darker wash/ink to fill in the runes. Something mossy without having to go with black. Then re-use the stone color with slight higlights to emphisize the contrast and highlight then. With the darker mossy growth within the runes they should stand out nicely without being over-done like they might if you use black,

Exactly what I was going to suggest. You have to wash the runes - and only them - with Bada black now, in order to make them stand out. Then just highlight the stones with lighter shades of grey, moving towards extreme highight with pure white. That should to the trick, providing You just want some darker runes to be barely visible. If You are going for glowing blue or red ones, then it is a whole another story.

So ended up finishing my first set of bases:

Still working on what I am going to do about the runes.

On flat surfaces they look good already. You might think about a careful application of Sepia or Ogryn Flesh wash on the runes, to give them some worn-down weathered look. The stones generally still ask for some extreme highlight with white, using a flat brush probably with all to nothing left on it - I usually wipe it several times accross my palm to see how much paint is left. If barely no paint touches my skin, then it's good to go.

Yea, after the wash I realized that I would need to hitt them again with skull white.

They look good brother. I dont see them needing any pop, unless the photos make them look better. Maybe making the runes "glow" on the Rune Priest's base would be cool.

Yea, my rune priest in TDA gets the nice big runic base which will get some extra attention. My rune priest in PA will get on of the smaller runic bases with the same attention.
