A little introduction, i m a old, very old space wolf player... but i stopped playng it something like 3 years ago, due to problem with old rules and so on, i start playng orks.. These past 2 years i had a LOT of tournament with them, and i become quite a competent player ( maybe also a bit more). But now i m a bit fed up with them, and also with my new work i ve no time for tournaments. So i returned to my first love, the wolves... but my old models are very very very bad painted, and also i was not able to do a funny list with them, so i decided to do a completerly new list, with completely new models, the ones i always loved, the terminator! So here i m, busy in tryng to figure out and learn to pklay a somwhat competitive logan wing list, and i want to share these experience with you, so maybe someone could learn from the error i will do and from the victory i will have. The list I had seen some logawing list around, at 1500 point, but they have all a very bad way of playng. They drop, they kill wathever they find near.. and then they are like sitting duck So i will try to do a list wich is fist of all flexible, with both long and short range fire, some cc and a bit of mobility The long rage fire will be granted by the cyclone missile launcher.. i m gonna use 4 of them, and 2 of them will have logan to give tank hunter. Also, i m gonna add a basic rune priest, and living cyclone will help to deal with distant threats. Short range will come, as usual, from combi weapon... combi melta for the little squads, combi plasma from the bigger one a little mobility will came from the drop pod... ( now i will have some problem, because the unit's name in the italian codex a different from the english one, so rhere will be some problem) My opponent war a g i player, he fielded a horde of models, something like 130, in a lot of squad.. notabily, e had 6 laser in 2 squad, 3 rocket launcher, 1 valkyria and 1 squad of stoorm troops with melta guns The missions was 3 objectives. He simply shot too much, did not miss a single cover save ( he kept sending the laz cannon to the ground, only to recover them after with the order) while i missed everything... still, at turn 4 i was winning, turn 5 was a draw, at turn 6 i lost. I don't know if what you're planning can be competitive or not... but it does look fun. :( P.S. Did you have any trouble with the doors on your drop pod? I've been stalling putting mine together and I tried putting one of my three together last night, and had to rip it apart because of the doors popping open. How did yours go? They are supposed to pop open unless they are magnetised or glued together. Prot Posted October 22, 2010 Share Posted October 22, 2010 No... I mean mine won't even stay closed temporarily . I had to pull the whole model apart last night (except the doors and interior.) Basically mine won't stay shut unless I hold them shut. The doors have too much friction somewhere... and they won't close unless constant pressure is applied. I think I did something wrong.... I read somewhere else that the part of the door that contacts the base when the door is closed is uneven, and won't close unless you smooth it down with a knife. Nothing like having Logan Grimnar going straight to battle with Terminators! Now, it will be tough trough sometime, since you don't know exactly how the army works. But keep practising, and here a good tip, keep writing Battle Reports and store somewhere what works and what doens't so you can improve each time you play! Loved the idea man! In my turn i charged the flamers, killing 2 of them, and with the massed fire of squad mijolnir and muninn the daemon prince was killed. In his turn the other demon prince and the feared fateweaver arrived from reserve... but did little. In my turn i shot with everithing at fate weaver 2 rokets form munnin: 2-1 to hit ( fateweaver knew about it) 4 rocket from squan mijolnir, 2 hits, triple one to wound ( fateweaver knew about it) the priest failed his psionic test ( fateweaver knew about it) but kairos forget about the bolters... 15 bolter's shot, 4 wound, and.. e saved nothing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! bye bye fateweaver Squad Einherjar arrived and with 4 combi meltas took away 3 wound from the daemon prince. I'm enjoying your batreps. You have me tempted to try this. I do have one daemon army playing friend and he always uses this character that basically gives his army re-rolls of their invulnerables.... nasty. Good job on the win. The army is looking good! Brother Nathan Posted October 23, 2010 Share Posted October 23, 2010 for a simple solution to the pod problem, try an elastic band!careful though with painted models incase the paint comes off... just means you dont have to do so much work to get it right and its a simple matter to open the doors... Do you give each squad a job, or is it more of a "ready for anything" type of build?? Also, do you run a ten man squad with no transport?? I was thinking about doing this, then using Drop pods for the other three or four units. Great job on the battle reports, and I am excited to see some paint applied to those Termis!! Oh, and can anybody direct me towards a Combi tutorial for storm bolters?? I cannot find one through the search engine. The biggest difference is that I was aiming for bigger points and thus the 10 man squad was joined by Njal. The fact is, that pack keeps Njal alive till the last turns of the game, when his abilities become devastating. This big pack is intended to footslog, while the other three, which also contain Logan, will drop pod. Several guys mentioned about the pod doors not closing properly when it was put together. I had this issue myself when I built my three. I solved it by shaving down the bottom of the hatch doors. It seems that when you glue the top and bottom halves of the base together, there isn't enough clearance for the doors to move. Well that's the issue I had. Now my doors will stay up when the pods closed and will just drop open with a little flick. It's perhaps too late, but if someone's still building some pods, this might help. To make a long story shord, i dropped in fron of him with the 2 termy squad, but did veeeeery little with fire ( he deploy always like a onion, with little and unusefull squad screening the important ones), but was able to send to the ground the 2 laz squad in his turn, well, as always when i play with him, the improbable happenede: 6 laz shots, 5 hits, 5 wounds... but i had cover, and 2 storm shields... after the dices stoped rolling, i had 5 termy less.. and the remaing 2 of one squad were simply blown away by light fire turn 2, the other squad arrived, with the fire i was not able to take away the screen, then i charged this now 6 man screen unit, i charged with 3 of my 2 termy, and killed 5 of them! good! His turn... due to the CC and the drop pod he was not able to aim his heavy weapon to the henejar, but with light fire he killed 3 power armored guyz. He also destroyed one of my pods, and the esplosion... killed one more of my terminator... But i was alrady smiling, the 2 left would surely kill this last guy, then the next turn i would charge with them and loga.... roll roll rolll 2 pow weapon and 2 fist's attack after, the heroic imperial guard was still alive!!! at this poit I had 2 from squad Huginn alive locked in CC, 1 power armorded man from squad Einherjar with logan and the priest, and squad Mijolnir firmily on my objective Turn 3 From this turn on, the match took a steady way, logan and his buddies ( all of wich would die before the end) grinded theyr's way to the enemy objective ( i was able to jump from CC to CC without taking fire) the to man squad managed to kill the heroic gi, only to be vaporized by the guard fire, my opponend used all his reserves to bring down logan, failing, and threatened my objective only with a valkyria full of veterans... realy too little to worry 10 terminatos. The match endend in this way, with logan fighting over the enemy objective ( he killed over 30 guard's models!!!)( my opponent did not have a single power weapon) and mine in my hands, so VICTORY Thougts: i was thinking about replacing 3 combi melta from a squad, with 3 combi flamer, to add some anti horde ability... what to you think? It was a typo, 2 halves "of" the base. Being the the p is adjacent its a commmon error. Im not really a fan of combi weapons becaus there all or nothing. but I wouldnt replace all 3 meltas with flamers just 1 is good enough plus it allows for better allication of wounds taken on the squad. Logan wing to too pricey for me in less than 2,000pts. you should think of taking away 1 unit & adding in some Long Fangs. Njall I found to be not worth the points as he is wrth a normal runepriest in TDA AND another 6 man 5 missile launcher long fang squad. This is what I play now, at 1700 but with long fangs.: Logan RP in TDA, Chooser, talisman. 10 men TDA, 2 x cyclone, 3 combiplasma, 3 Wolf claws, 2 fists. 5 men TDA, 2 combimelta, 1 combiplasma, combiflamer, 2 x fists, 1 cyclone, drop pod. 5 men TDA, 3 combimelta, 1 combiplasma, 2 x fists, 1 cyclone, drop pod. 6 long fansg, 5 ML, drop pod 6 long fansg, 5 ML Lots of firepower down range, hard CC units, especially the 10 men squad, prefered enemy, counter charge on a 10- with logan and even once a game the bonus attack. Or I drop logan with a CML termie and a nuit fangs in the pods for side armour shouts. With relentless they can shoot on the drop, and I support them with a 2nd pod so logan can jump ship if needed. (Should not get him out in the open, even with a 3 wound eternal warrior.) 3rd pod squad helps me with far away objectives. As you can see I build the squads to be as self sufficient as possible. And always go for the CML over other heavy weapons unless you plan to run out of a landraider. With the others sqad fire, i killed the assault bikes on his turn he assalted squad enherjar, wipping it away, begun to move toward the objectives, and killed another termy. Turn 5: the match so far was veeeery very fast, and i did not realy realized the match was ending till now... at the moment i was holding only 2 objectives, so i decided to move and run... squad mijolnir tried to reach the objective in the wood, failing, the squad in the wood fall back behind a ruind, the third squad streched to cover 2 objectives, in his turn he killed another termy, droppping the squad to 1 man, and moved the squad with corbulo ( on the photo it is a death company, but it count as normal assault squad) in the objective in the wood. This time i had a very difficult match... my opponent used this veeeeeeeeery shooty space marines list HQ Librarian with null zone elite 2 dreddy with double twin linked autocannon Fast attack 3 single land speeders with heavy bolter and cyclone missile launcher heavy support 2 predator with 2 laser cannon and 1 autocannon in turret 1 thunderfire troops 2 10 man squads, one with laser-flamer, the other with laser melta, with 2 razzorback with laser-plasma The game was 2 bases... i won the initiative but ( foolishly ) let him begin... First turn... i did not understan how much fire power did he have, but he was veeery unluky and only killed 2 of my termy from the 10 man squad. My turn... i realized one the great weakeness of this list... i did have some firepower, but very few fire point... and did not have any idea of wich unit i should have killed first... and olso, drop to try to destroy as much as possible, or simply drop behind the big ruin, to tray to take the objective? The others turns were just fire, .. tryng to get a drawn, i destroyed all his fast or mobile units ( 2 land speeders and the free dreddt) and he grinded away squad mijolnir my suicidal squad arrived, destroied the thunderfire, and then get locked in CC with one of his squad near the objective... but not close enought to contest it. Token Posted November 17, 2010 Share Posted November 17, 2010 Interesting to see how Loganwing armies work. Im thinking of doing a similar list/army, but with scouts too, and perhaps long fangs. Would it still be called a wolfwing? The list i wrote used more assault cannons and only one cyclone missile launcher in it. nurglez Posted November 17, 2010 Share Posted November 17, 2010 The thing is, cyclone launchers are generally considered better then assault cannons. as 2 frag or krak missiles at 48 inches is generally "better" then 4 str 6 rending shots at 24 inches. I have 1 squad with an assault cannon in my list, and 2-3 cyclone launchers. and I think it would be better to replace the assault cannon but i like the model i made I also think logan/wolf wing's work better with a squad of longfangs along, as it lets you take 5man terminator squads, then attach one away to make space in a drop pod, or to make a nice alpha strike drop pod with logan, 6 longfangs with 5 missiles and a cyclone launcher attached which can fire due to relentless, but I am keeping my army "pure" for the moment to learn all the ups and downs of using pure termies :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/213673-my-loganwing/#findComment-2565096 Share on other sites More sharing options...
