Rapid Fire tournament of 2010

'Lo, there do I see my father. 'Lo, there do I see...

Hi everone

Welcome to my account (or what I can rememeber) from Rapid Fire tournament, a tournament ran by my wargaming club Stirling wargamer, a tournament that I been attending since 2006 & a club I been going to since 2007.

Now as per usely, those who have not seen my tournament reports. I have a simple request, if you hate tournaments or have the need to moan about a army list/what people take or because one might hate tournament & tournament player. I rather those people ignore this topic, end of the day I do not care what people take in a army as long as there a good oppent with a good attuide :HQ: & I like tournaments as it bring a lot of life to the hobby battle new people or armies you'd rarely battle (I alway seem to battle tau in the tournaments :D ) & end of the day I rather that people take stuff they like. One thing I do not like is people being negative & moan for the sake of moaning, really fed up of moan topics, like wise I do not like the rep behind tournament play/find it unfair as most come from those who never attend anyway.

I never had a problem in any tournament & hopeful any oppent never had a problem with me.

But for those who came to see my report, thanks in advance :HQ:

So today was Stirling Rapid Fire tournament. Please note I do not tend to do a turn by turn account, rather just a overall summary, but there lots of photos ;)

So onto the gaming side

Round 1 - The All-Father wove the skein of your life a long time ago

Army - Space Marines, Salamander

Mission

This scenario will be played using the Dawn of War deployment rules (p93).

This scenario will be played using 5 objectives instead of rolling a D3+2. The 5th objective must be placed in the centre of the table.

This scenario will be played using a 1750 point army list chosen from those listed as available at the start of this pack.

Each objective marker is worth the following amount of victory points:

Any objective marker completely in your table half: 100 VP’s

Any objective marker completely in your opponents table half: 300 VP’s

The objective marker in the centre of the table: 200 VP’s

Army list - Vulken, 2 Predators w/Autocannon & Lascannon side, 10 man Tactical unit w/Plasma Cannon, 10 man Tactical unit w/Combi Flamer (?), Flamer (possinle heavy weapon in there) in drop pod, 3 Dreadnoughts, two of which where in Pods (one being Ironclade), While-wind, 5 Space Marines in Razorback w/Chaplain Cassius (count as).

Out come - Win, two object to one.

So after wake up that a alright time (never belive there was a 7am on a Sat :P ) & arrive to my gaming club in good time.

After everthing was set up & everone made there way into the hall. It was time for us to hand in our army list & then pick our table number from the box. I got table No5, which would seem me there for the whole event :HQ:

I was to find I'd be battle Sean Morris (hope I got it right, you can always tell me off that the Throne of Skulls) who has brought a cool Salamander Space Marine list. So after check list, talk about terrain & any questions in regards to our armies. It was time to start.

Through out the game it seem the dice gods where against us. Any one who attend tournament will know the dreaded curse of the Melta guns, this seem to play out for both of us.

Also our Blast weapon keep scattering miles off, never makeing there mark.

The game was a hard fought battle with very little left in the end. With the skys going dark with the green amour of the Salamander Drop Pods rain death from above, to very close battle in combat. Grey Hunter unit Trovald mange to take down the Salamander Razorback unit w/Cassuis (thanks to a little help from the Wolf Standard :HQ: ) only to be counter by one of the Salamander might Dreadnought, but the dice gods was against them which resuslted in the Wolf Guard attach to squad Trovald to Power Fist this once glories hero of the Slamander.

While else where, Vulken would be take apart one of my Dreadnought Odin in bitter close combat, which resulted in me getting immobile & a fair few can not shot nexct turn result. But in the end Odin Dread CCW mange to rip this hero of Nocturne to bits.

In the end, the Salamander mange to get one of my objects. While I mange to get the object marker in the middle & held one of mine.

I learnt a bit from the game which is the main thing & what I enjoy from the game. In the end I think there was one tactical squad, 3 Drop, 1 Predator. While for me, 3 grey Hunter, 2 Wolf Guard, both dreadnoughts that where immolbies (?) & my Rune Priest.

So after round 1 was finish, it was time to get some launch & then pick our army for best painted. This award went to Euan who had a really nicely converted Chaos Marine force, was theme on a Marine chapter who home world was on top of a Necron tomb world. Techmarine slow turn to the side of the Necrons. Lots of nice conversion mix Necron & Marines, count as Thasound Sons.

I fully support armies that are nicely converted, it had a nice theme & background to it.

Also it great as it up the challenge for next year. But again Euan army was really brillaint, I rememeber when he talk about his idea when he was play testing his list.

Might be able to see some photos of his brillaint army by here

http://s626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/I...RF10/?start=all

Alway a big fan of really nicely converted & painted armies. Hopeful I get a chance to battle Euan that my local GW store against his brillaint army :)

With everthing settle down & everone eaten pizza. It was time to move onto Round 2. I'd find I would be back onto table 5 once more, so that good, don't need to move my stuff :P

Round 2 - If someone were to draw the story of his deeds, that they may be remembered

Army - Blood Angels

Mission

This scenario will be played using the Spearhead deployment rules (p93).

This scenario will be played using the Night Fight special rule (for the whole battle).

No player may place his objective marker anywhere within 6” of his deployment zone or a table edge.

This scenario will be played using a 1750 point army list chosen from those listed as available at the start of this pack.

Each objective marker is worth the following amount of victory points:

Your objective marker: 100 VP’s

Your opponents objective marker: 300 VP’s

Army list - Librarian w/Terminators armour/Storm Shield, 5 Thunder Hammer Terminators, 5 Assault Marines, 10 Tactical marines, 5 Scouts w/Sniper Rifle, Land Raider, 2x Land Raider redeemer, Baal Pred

Out come - Draw

I had hear rumour of someone thinking of attending with Three Land raider for the past few weeks & I did say to a few people I'd like to battle this force as I'd be exspecting to see more when I attend the Throne of Skulls tournament in Nottingham Warhammer world in Nov.

Behold when I go back to table 5 I find I'd be battleing Kevian who had in deed brought this force ;)

Another good game but Night Fight did make thing hard, even for us Space Wolves with our specil rules. But the same time it help us, mean Kevian did not need to worry about my Long Fangs, while I did not have to worry about his normal Land Raider.

So before the game started Kevian scouted his Baal Pred & one turn one saw his Land Raiders move full speed. While my turn saw me try to take out his Baal Predators, but epic fail, well I mange to immobile the Baal predators with my Grey Hunter unit Freyr. But sadily I was hopeing for a Weapon destroy, as I felt the pain as the Flamestorm weapon took five of the six men in the might squad that is Grey Hunter Unit Freyr

While else where, Kevian try to move one of his Land Raider through some terrain, the Raider holding his unit of Thunder Hammer & Librarian. Sadily it immoblise it self (I know the feeling from my Land raider that Conflict Scotland just that the start of this year). So once the Thunrder hammer Terminators came out, destroyed Freyr Razorback. I'd try & pick this might unit apart with Plasma Cannon from Dreadnought Odin or units that where most closer to these Terminators.

While another Land Raider got immobile by Grey Hunter squad Gnyrll Melta Guns.

After words it would be hit & run battles, from assault the Blood Angels assault marine units, to trying to finish of the Land Raider but little had happen.

With the Scout out of range & more so with Night fight & Kevian units being out to contest my object. The game ended a draw as the remains of GH unit went back into the Rhino along with my Rune Priest to hold my own object.

I like the night fight rule we added into this mission as it did make it a bit harder & result in barely any static armies.

But looking back I felt I use my Land Speeder a bit wrong & they did get destroyed on turn 2. I was thinking of keep them in reseve so they could have taken on the Scouts. But same time they where a bit out of range should my Speeder came on in order for me to use my Heavy Flamer & in return there was two raider near by that could have taken me down before I done anything. While in the game (not being reseve) they did take a pot shot that the Baal Pred?? but curse of meltas hit.

But same time, thinking back I could have possible Deep Strike my Speeder, but same time you are risking the scatter.

While I also felt I could have place my Long Fangs a little better, but was a bit hard with the terrain around the area.

But overall was a good game & hope my oppent enjoy it. I did learn a lot, as said above about looking back that a few thing. My worry was the 2x Redeemer & the unit of Thunder Hammer terminators. This is somthing I am exspecting that the Throne of Skulls, so was good & as said learn a bit from the game. Also was good battle the brand new Blood Angels as I not really fought Blood Angels in a tournament setting yet.

So the game ended in a draw & with that it was time to pack up & get a short little break before we where to find out who we would be battle in the last round. So far both round 1 & 2 ended on turn 7 & where close fought battles with very little left.

So after a short 15 min break..........I find I am one table FIVE once more :) So the whole tourament I have not once move away from the same table. But same time it good as No5 is my lucky number ;)

On top of this, my friend Ian came to this event all the way from London as his Wife wanted to see family that live up here in Scotland. So he sorted it to fit around Rapid Fire tournament.

This is the thing, ever time me & Ian attend the same tournament, we have fought each other ever single time, it really is wired. As when Ian was arrive up to Scotland we where unsure if we would have time to fix in a game as my local GW is not open on Mon/Tue, while he arrive this moring that 1am.

However we did joke that we would no dout be battle each other.

So far it been 40k Radio 2008 by ELG which he got a win, Rapid Fire 2008 where it was a draw, Conpulsion which resulted in a win for me. Those times being his Black Legions vs my Iron Warriors, as well as many games between that the Stirling wargaming club before Ian move down to London.

So

Round 3 - It's all right, little brother... there are more foes!

Army - Space Wolves

This scenario will be played using the Pitched Battle deployment rules (p92).

This scenario will be played using a 1750 point army list chosen from those listed as available at the start of this pack.

The following value should replace the standard “kill” points in this scenario:

Troops = 1 Kill Point

Elites, Fast Attack and Heavy Support = 2 Kill Points

HQ = 3 Kill Points

The following bonus “kill” points are available:

+1 point if you annihilate all your opponents HQ, Elites, Troops, Fast Attack or Heavy Support.

Victory Points for destroyed units are scored as normal

Army list - Rune Priest w/Jaws, Living Lighting, Wolf Guards (one being specil ch Wolf Guard w/Hammer), 5 Grey Hunter w/Flamer, 3x 8 Grey Hunter w/Power Fist, Wolf Standard, 2 Long Fangs 4 w/Launcher, 2w/Heavy Bolter, 2w/Lascannon, Land raider, Lone Wolf w/2x Wolfs

Out come lost, quite badly, 23 kill points vs 7??

So after the rivel between our Chaos Armies, it would seem that now Russ & the All father would be testing us both with our new Space Wolves armies. It was pretty cool, Ian army was all the old metal models from back in the days & keep to the SW colour in the codex. While my army was converted useing 3rd ed spure & some of the new stuff & being darker colour. I should add into this that Ian won GT heat 3 in 2008 as well with his Black Legion (his terminator unit was thanks to battle my Iron Warriors you know ;) )

As per normal was a real fun game & like the two last rounds, learnt a lot from these games.

With very little terrain to hide behind, I was luck to steal the first turn after saying "I'll steal first turn for a laught. In the name of Russ & the All father" & behold, Russ listen to my pray

For my first turn as said there was little terrain to protect me, so I move pretty much ever tank full out & pop smoke to protect them, while the Land Speeder I kept in resevre to try it out, as end of the day dose not matter with win, loss or draw, as long as your learn & have a laught & in general be a good oppent.

While Ian turn saw him gather around my army.

That one point it did turn into the Battle of the Wolf Standards. When my tanks got close to his line, he'd mange to kill all my transports. But was not lucky to be in assault, so I'd assault him on my following turn & call on the Wolf Standard, he called on his. Can't belive the amount of 1's we rolled as well.

While my poor Dreadnoughts where slow getting blasted apart by the Land raider which seem impossible to try take down, but that least after Round 2 my Long Fangs mange to get the practise & started to Glance the Land raider, but sadly, Ian would make all saves by the cover from destroyed tanks or from smoke.

With the time going part it was turning into a slaughter fest, but sadily after I won one round of combat, my Wolves would then be face by those Long Fangs.

Overall I really enjoy the game. It really is wired how me & Ian alway end up battle each other in ever tournament we both attend as said above. So no dout as we jokely said well no dout face each other that another tournament in the near future. In fact we joke about just asking the refs of any future event to just put up together for round 1 since we end up battle each other anyway.

So with a bloody defeat as I only had a Dreadnought left that was immobile & lose the Dread CCW, also with turn 6 over & done with. It was time to call it a day & start pack up & find out who the overall winner was.

So that did not go to well, but it was a good game as per usely with Ian. Now we have a new record between our Space Wolves to settle with.

Overall I really enjoy today that Rapid Fire, got to see a lot of friends both old & new.

Also thanks to my three oppent for great games.

My Space Wolves next tournament will be Throne of Skulls.

List wise, I like how the list work, just some bad dice rolls or out played in other. It has been notied my dice rolls are legand in my club & local GW. Basicly thing of 2x Grey Hunter units trying to fire that a unit of Harlquins, there 4 inch away from me, I roll double 1 for both unit for the Harlquin night fight rule (or what ever the upgread is). Another time being 6 Raven Wing biker going to assault a Tau Battle suit in terrain, I roll fice 1's.

Or finial, one of my friends when I battle his Eldar, one Obliterators was in range of his Writhguards, I roll 1/2 (back 4th ed days), so twin linked, re-rolls 2 & a 1, so went to make my armour saves & got double 1's.

Or just check out my ELG tournament.

Though right now I am thinking about possible make one Twin Linked Lascannon Razorback into a Rhino. Useing some points to boost the squad with a extra two Grey Hunter, then it just what to spend the 10 remain points. This is just though for the Throne of Skulls tournament. I still want to keep one Lascannon razorback to give out that support & range, sort of why I have two for the range in the event I hold a object for exsample & to far away to assault or fire any Meltas.

As game wise to be honsty as said everthing seem to work, I drop things like Bjorn to help get units to hold my own object (the light arm Grey hunter unit) & to get the unit of Speeder so I could hopeful contest object mainly the home & away (mission two above) & to deal with the rise of Land raiders.

But that will also come down to time as Throne of Skulls tournament is in a month, but also add into that it the cost/money side as well as I am save up toward a new army being the Dark Eldar which I want to start.

Anyway here a photo of my army on there display tray to finish off this topic as well :P

http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/RF10/DSC07887.jpg

http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/RF10/DSC07888.jpg

http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/RF10/DSC07892.jpg

So throne of skulls is the next tournament for my Space Wolves

Conflict Scotland next year will see me & my friend take Double Blood Angels.

Though no idea about next year tournament session with my Space Wolves, my might Iron Warriors or possible Dark Eldar or depend if GW ever release the Storm Raven model can get some Blood Angels. But will worry about that later, as said got Throne of Skulls to focuse on, Dark Eldar army & then for Christmas possible collect a Logan Wolf Wing army which will fill in some units I plan to add to my Space Wolves army soon.

But again thanks to my three oppents for a great day & also people who attended the event.
