Ranwulf
Hello, after four months with a Mechanized army(and a far share of loses), I decided to get back to my Deep Strike Army. They were very functional(hard to use against Guard, but I usually did pull it trough anyway). Now, I was thinking deploying them either with 355 Points, 5 Stormshields/ 3 LC+2TH or a 10 Man some Special Weapons. I remember using the first in a Apocalypse game(actually with 8 guys or somenthing, not all with Special Weapons) against Terminators. They won(Yes, my Vanguard Sergeant got a special medal for that), sure, but only two survived(actually, against 10 Termies that was pretty good). Now, does it usually works? I mean, I think in a Deep Strike army we miss far too much Inv. Saves, so Vanguards seems pretty good for taking care of annoying things like Doom of Malantai. BLACK BLΠFLY
There are two schools of thought: Small squad (pf, couple of pw, no shields) Large squad (more pf/pw/lc, lots of shields) I started off using a large squad. Of course they do well but are a point sink as well. I now use a small squad (sergeant has pf & shield) - this leaves me with more points so I can field more assault squads plus the small squad of VV are still great for taking out units like Long Fangs and tanks the turn they arrive from reserve. The large squad is a lot of fun though and it's the only unit you can field above 5 Marines that have access to both jump packs and shields, so they are tough as nails, hard hitting in close combat but costly. 0b
JamesI
I haven't tried the small squad yet (but am planning to soon.) The large squad was nice, but way too points heavy and rarely were worth it in my experience.
