Angels Sanguine Chest Eagle

There's been a few topics on here for Angels Sanguine colours, but all seemingly about helmet colour (admittedly quite a conundrum) so I'll get on with it.

The few AS models I've seen in galleries etc have black chest eagles. This a) looks cool and B) is easiest to paint BUT I think it's a little too plain on the black left half of these chaps. Good old Codex BA shows the AS sporting a yellow/gold number (though the sample model has no eagle) BUT that kinda looks out of place being the only bright shiny part.

So. I'm about to paint up 2 squads of AS want to avoid black eagles but think the codex example is a bit day-glo. I'm thinking a darker/muted gold-bronze might be good or a deeper orange-yellow.

Are there any brothers here (AS player or not) with an opinion or, better, knowledge of pictorial evidence and examples??

*EDIT* Just noticed even my Avatar is against me on the quest for the non-black chest eagle!

You might want to try this:

Base coat aquilla in Khemri brown

1st highlight with deneb stone

last highlight only the tips with skull white.

This would give you a nice contrast to the black and red on the model whilst retaining a darker and more muted look.

At the mo i have decided on gold for veterans/honour guard and silver/steel for regular marines.

Oooh...like the idea of a contrast for the Vet's, good call. I'm really liking the dark gold/bronze idea, possibly combined with Skawolf's bone/white (why didn't I think of that already? Thanks for the recipe).

That'd give Vet's bronze eagle with gold helm and RAS bone eagle with red/black helm...could work well

I began with a bone/partchment aquila on my Tac Squads. Not liking that look I switched to the aforementioned gold/bronze.

My recipe is as follows:

Black Base

Dwarf bronze

Burnished Gold

Two layers of Devlin Mud Wash

Super light edge highlight (top only due to lighting) with Mithril silver

Check out the look on my Blog, you can see the parchment-y version on my tacs, and the Bronze on my Assault Squads.

I plan to keep a bright gold for my vets to match the helmets.
