Cold Fire
Hi I am just starting a new IF army. I am just doing a squad of 5 assault marines at the moment as a test to try out some of the Yellow recipes on this site. My question is where can I obtain some combat blades from. In the Sons of Dorn novel it states that an IF would never enter combat without his blade at his side. I would like to represent this in my models. I have considered using green stuff to mould my own but I have no experience in GS and have no idea how hard it would be to do this. Can anyone suggest somewhere I can obtain some from so that, if I decide to use GS, I at least have a basis to work from. Failing that does anyone know of any good representations of the combat blade in pictures etc? I hope to have some pics up in the WIP section soon. Thanks for your time. Hemal
You could use online bitz stores, and look around for parts that aren't Astartes combat knives perhaps (as these are pretty infrequantly found on sprues these days) - the old combat knife was on the back pack and bolter sprue back in teh day, whilst there are dozens of alternatives such as High Elf scabbards, Imperial Knight scabbards, getting lot sof marine CCW (chain sowrds, power blades etc) and magna clamping to the backpack or belt etc etc Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/213823-combat-blades/#findComment-2544502 Share on other sites
Dragonkin Arenis
I believe there is a Combat Knife for marines on the Tactical Squad sprue. I use WYSISYG and use the blades as bayonets on Bolters, but for Assault Squads I leave it be, as the 'combat blade' is shown by the chainsword. But it may be a good idea to mag-lock it to the Marine's armour somewhere, or GS a scabbard and stick it to his belt. Cold Fire
Hi Thanks for the reply to this. So in short any kind of blade could be taken as the combat knife. If I put a power sword sized sword on a Tac marine would that have to count as a power weapon or can it just count as his CCW? Brother Anvilus
If you say it is a CCW, then it's a CCW, just keep it a CCW through the entire game, don't let it 'warp' into a power sword or anything :tu: I myself use the scabbarded blades found in the scout boxes and hung them on the back of the marine belts :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/213823-combat-blades/#findComment-2544660 Share on other sites
Myxx
All of my sgts. have power weapons and I have used a lot of the swords from the fantasy Empire range. They have lots of swords (big and small, bared or in a scabard), axes and knives. I've used fantasy chaos marauders. I even used a knife from the tac. squad on one of my sgts. and attached some guitar wire and other bits to make it into a power-knife. In some of my Inq. forces, I cut the blade off of some dark elf halberds and spears and those make some decently wicked looking blades. If you want CCW, just use them as such. This :-) There are dozens of blades as indicated in teh fantasy range - fantastic bits that look like knives in the hands of a marine... A D-B
I myself use the scabbarded blades found in the scout boxes and hung them on the back of the marine belts :jaw: Ooh, good choice. I may just steal that for myself. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/213823-combat-blades/#findComment-2544728 Share on other sites
ShinyRhino
Another great source for combat knives and blades are the Catachan Guard squads. They have big, scabbarded combat knives and machetes that fit beautifully on a Marine. This is what the Catachan scabbarded machete will looklike on a Marine (my Master of the Forge): http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z43/goalie20/Warhammer%2040K/MotF/motfcomplete02.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/213823-combat-blades/#findComment-2544965 Share on other sites
fivepointedstar
On the warstore.com they have dark eldar combat knives on sale for .10 cents US. There are other types of knifes avalible on that site as well, and all are less than one dollar. hope that helps Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/213823-combat-blades/#findComment-2544981 Share on other sites
Cold Fire
HI Thanks all. i will look over these and find my best option. I do like the Catachan blades though! Will probably go for a mix of each just to add some variety to the squads. Hope to have pics up of my test minis soon and then I can start on the first proper ones  Thanks again. Marshal Rohr
I personally use the IG knives with scabbards. It scales well for a marine sized combat knife (which would be like a 14 inch Randall for normal humans). Dan the Daemon's Night Lords do an excellent job of representing everything a Chaos Marine has in its wargear on the model. madscuzzy
For scabbard blades, the catachans ones have been mentioned. Cadians also have scabbarded blades, but more towards 'swords' for IG, which work nicely as long marine blades. The new FW command squad and upgrade kits both have scabbarded swords... but are fairly pricey just for them alone.
