Tutorial - PA Heavy Flamer

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

Just a quicky as I thought I'd show you how I built my own version of the PA Heavy Flamer. I've seen a few floating around that use terminator bits, but felt they were a bit chunky for the 'Assault' classification of the weapon.

What you need:

IG Command Heavy Flamer (Catachan or Cadian)

Meltabomb:

Firstly chop off the handle from the Meltabomb

Remove the IG arm and the fuel hose from the flamer, then file the hose space with a round file so it fits snugly onto the Meltabomb. You'll also need to carve off the IF hand, though this will be covered over by your marine hand so it's ok if it's not too neat.

Finally glue the meltabomb/fuel canister sideways into the gap you've filed.

End result:

Hope you like it, any questions then fire away!

Very cool.

Uhm, stupid question... what models come with a meltabomb on the sprues? I don't have any, and all of my attempts to GS one have been utter failures...

The Assault Squad has a few, and I think the Command Squad does as well (not sure about that one though).

Nice and simple conversion. Btw, if You use Catachan flamer, You actually don't need a meltabomb, since it comes with a canister already.

Good point, and also you have to do less trimming to remove the arm/hand. Shame I ordered the Cadian one really!

There's a joke in there somewhere just dying to get out!

Oh God no! What have I done?

In honesty I like the fact that it is similar to the size of an existing Flamer, as it seems to match up with an 'assault' weapon, rather than a 'heavy' weapon.

That's just it though... It is a heavy weapon, and while it looks as such on Imperial Guardsmen, it doesn't on a Space Marine.

I guess this one come down to personal taste. In my eyes because in the rules of the game it's classified as 'Assault' I prefer it to look a bit more mobile, though this does conflict with the fact it's called a 'Heavy' Flamer. :D
