Dark Angels to Blood Angels

So heres the deal. If any of you know me from the DA subforum you might know that Im DA obsessed. Iis always been a painter/modeller/fluff kind of obsession, but as I've matured back into it this year after a 15 year hiatus - the game of 40K has lured me deeper into the hobby.

 

So Ive started palying and the rules are sinking in but im realising how my lovely DA's are just not fit enough for the 5th edition climate of today.

 

Blood Angels have often tempted me - being to my mind somewhat of a reflection of the DA and loving the models. (Yes I got the new terminators sitting aptiently in the wrapping). Ive looked at wings and hammers and axes this year and got dangerously close to starting them off!

 

The thing is my DA have all been about pianting and styling, and if I start a BA army then they would too eventually as well, but Im more interested in my secnd army being about getting a nasty army onto the battlefield quickly.

 

My question to you guys is, what can BA do for me?

 

1) What would be an effective 1500-2000 point army,

2) How competitive are you all finding the new codex

3) is Codex:SM a more logical choice for me?

1)Luckily we dont just have 1 really effective list, its mostly selective. you can go many ways, but there are a few things that stad slightly above others.

Hq, specials are good, and the chaplins and libarians are good, captains not so much...

Elite, the only really bad unit is the techmairine... youll rpob want a sanguine priest or 2 anyway

troops, ras are our best, loose the packs and they get cheaper veichles. tactials are rouhly the same for us as anyone else but the other choices are more interesting and fun...

fast, all good but no out shining delights

heavys, vindis and ravens, but everything else is good too...

 

for me a list at those points would be

 

astrorath

sanguary priest with jumppack and powerweapon

furiso with blood talons heavy flamer, extra armour and pod

2 10 man ras one for hunting infantry and one for tanks

a tactical squad for ranged support

a 10 man raswithout packs but with rhino

2 baals

2vindis

 

2)competitive, definately. but theres no i win button. it is balanced. sure its alot better than the older dexes but is on par with the newer one and is actually slightly harder to play as were more expensive due to our speed. they have to be played like eldar. dont put too much points in the fun things and rembering the obectives is important. weigh up the cost effective ness of everything though!

 

3) only you can answer that. if you want to play hard and fast then we can be good. but the marine characters have their boons over us, tl flamers, and melta andmc thunder hammers, fleet, outflank, stubborn. and th wolves im sure you know. research is all you can do..

Really depends what you want to do.

 

I'd personally pick up "standard" marine models and paint them however you want and have the option of running 2 or 3 codex's (C:SM / BA / C:SW) its cheesey but if your starting afresh, why not?

 

Personally I like my mech lists, I could never get on with DoA which I tried first before mech (I was an old school mech player before I quit), and this works well to run as other codex's.

 

I am a person who likes to "module" past 1500 the best I can so the core of my army always stays the same.

 

1500 I'd run something like;

 

Libby

 

x5 Terms w/ LC/TH

LRC

x2 SPriest

 

x5 RAS + Razor

x5 RAS + Razor

x5 RAS + Razor

x5 RAS + Razor

 

x1 Baal w/ HB/AC

 

To 1750 I have a couple of options;

 

x1 Mephiston

 

or/

 

x1 Baal w/HB/AC

x1 Baal w/AC (or Flamestorm)

 

I've not neede to go to 2k - really I'd just add the above 2 together. Though I am thinking maybe x2 more RAS + HB Razors to have x6 scoring units at 2k.

 

However, I am thinking now of making the 250, instead of Meph, x1 SP on bike, x4 or 5 bikers + attack bike. Though at 2k I really feel like I'd need a 2nd HQ.

 

There is tons of options.
