Land Raiders

Bretheren,

I am still trying to create an all comers BA list. Since I do have 50 bucks availabe, I was thinking of buying my first Land Raider.

But looking over most of the lists I realized, that not many Blood Angels players are not using them.

Why is this? Is it the lack of the ability to move 18" and therefore being slower than all other vehicles? Dropping a land raider is an option - but due to the size of the model I think this has a serious chance to scatter into something creating a misshap which then threatens about 500+ (including troops inside) points with instant death.

Or is ist just because many people dont play any terminators or Hqs without independet character rule so a Land Raider just isn`t a good transport option?

I think it's really a matter of efficiency.

If you're running a jumper heavy list, AV14 becomes a giant target. The chance it'll make up its cost is very slim with the amount of anti-mech your opponent will have, and the fact that you've given him no other targets.

For the cost of an LR by itself, you can buy another 10 man jumper squad with special weapons or more RBs/Rhinos and grounded RAS troops if you run RB spam.

It's a great transport, but I don't think it becomes viable as an option for BA until you've hit a points value where you have literally reached the troop limit. With 6 Rhinos filled with 60 RAS troops is on the board, an LRC full of termies and a libby is probably a good idea. But until then, I just think you're better off buying troops. With FC, you should be swinging first, and your RAS should be enough to put the hurt on whatever you run into.

Edit: Since Ebsolom beat me to it here, haha. I agree that if you like it, buy it, but make sure you have a list first. I have 10 BA termies and a LRC that I am in love with, and run them when I can. Totally worth buying if you want it. But, keep in mind that if you decide to buy it, build it, paint it and then decide you don't have room for it, that is not awesome, heh.
