Retrograde
Hi all Here's my dread conversion, Brother Haedron. http://img233.imageshack.us/img233/3329/sdc10795o.jpg http://img838.imageshack.us/img838/1457/sdc10798t.jpg http://img179.imageshack.us/img179/5684/sdc10796c.jpg http://img830.imageshack.us/img830/2435/sdc10797p.jpg http://img443.imageshack.us/img443/5671/sdc10799k.jpg http://img707.imageshack.us/img707/5751/sdc10800x.jpg They both still need a bit of work. I'd appreciate any comments or advice, especially concerning those exhausts on the dread as they're a bit rubbish at the moment Due to a complete lack of ideas I was seriously considering putting the new FW meltas under the saw earlier. They would make very nice exhausts but that would be madness and I'm no billionaire! Thanks for looking ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/213873-epic-warlord-dread-conversion/ Share on other sites

Terrible_Trygon
Is that MkII a press mould? Because if it is, that is defiantly the biggest piece I have seen done using that technique. The moulds must have used lots of putty. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/213873-epic-warlord-dread-conversion/#findComment-2545126 Share on other sites
Retrograde
@Ethnic Minority: Fingers crossed :) @DeathKnight2000: Memories indeed. I've made another couple of slightly different mk2 bodies that I really like but the legs are so complicated it might be a while until they're presentable. @Terrible_Trygon: Yeah the body is press molded. I used milliput for the mold because it picks up more detail and dries harder than green stuff. Rogue Trader Voril
Awesome work, but I'd like to see a tutorial on the milliput press mold. I have seen smaller ones come out looking like crap, but that one is good sized and came out really good. The Normish
Ooh! Original! I wouldn't mind seeing it next to an actual Dreadnought, to see the size comparison (it may be cheaper than buying the full Dreadnought kit). Retrograde
@Cpt. Salvatore: I think the shields are from the early 90's chaos warrior plastics. @Shortsonfire79: Thanks a lot @The Normish: I don't have another dread at the moment but I did compare it to one at a GW store. It stands almost a 3rd taller than a regular dread. @Rogue Trader Voril: I'd love to help with a tutorial but I think it might breach forum rules on IP grounds. It was pretty straight forward though. @Terminatorinhell: Haha you and me both. I'm not a tested painter though so I won't be rushing him. My chapter colour is white with one golden arm, a bit of an anti-deathwatch scheme really. I am however really tempted to paint him mechanicus red. He was a mars pattern warlord after all. @Doghouse: Thanks man. I'm a big fan of your work so it's a real honour :) A few more pics: http://img294.imageshack.us/img294/2308/sdc10788o.jpg http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/4801/sdc10780o.jpg http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/447/sdc10789.jpg http://img259.imageshack.us/img259/1015/sdc10783n.jpg Again, thanks for looking. Doghouse
Great job on the marines, they are coming along really nicely. The first head works better in my opinion on the dreadnought because it looks less like a titan head and more like a stylised dreadnought head. I will say one thing it's given me some ideas for building titan conversions that I hadn't considered before. Well done I'm extremely impressed with this, it's very inspirational work. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/213873-epic-warlord-dread-conversion/#findComment-2545698 Share on other sites
Retrograde
Cheers Doghouse. Titan conversions huh? :D The alternate head is definitely second choice but I'm gonna paint it up anyway. Only problem is I'm going to have to make another chest plate without the neck/mouth guard because that head sticks out a bit more. I was thinking he might look better with his whole head showing anyway like in the top pic in my last post. Anyone got any views on this? onipunk
If you're still stuck on the exhausts, some Ork gun barrels might work alright. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/213873-epic-warlord-dread-conversion/#findComment-2545951 Share on other sites
Rogue Trader Voril
Supposedly green stuff press molds are legal and GW encourages it (or at least doesn't deter us from it), but who knows where the line is drawn. Probably right, better not to tempt things. Mithril hound
Any chance that we could get some sort of a guide to build legs like that? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/213873-epic-warlord-dread-conversion/#findComment-2546055 Share on other sites
Retrograde
@Mithril hound: I made this dread up (very slowly) as I went along and didn't take any pics along the way I'm afraid. The legs ended up being the most complex part of the build but I'll say one thing though, a plastic jump pack accounts for the thighs, bottom of the chest plate and the 'soles' on the front most part of his feet. @Rogue Trader Voril: The red shirts in my local store didn't seem to mind. If someone gives me the all clear I'll post a pic of the mk2 milliput mold and give advice where needed. @Dark Link: Thanks, great idea. I went and checked black reach for ork weapons and sure enough, the big shootas are perfect for the job. Problem is, orks being orks, both the guns are different :cuss @sword brethren: Thanks a lot man  You're not gonna like this though... I got distracted: http://img258.imageshack.us/img258/1278/sdc10799a.jpg Dark Link's idea made me have a bit of a search through my stuff. I found my old chaos raider which made me head straight for the wardrobe I know my girlfriend hid the oldskool raider in. I got it off ebay and it's suppose to be a christmas prezzie :D Here's very roughly what I've got in mind: http://img176.imageshack.us/img176/4067/sdc10803tt.jpg The sponsons come from an old predator and will be armed with twin heavy bolters. I'll mount them higher than pictured as well. I'm going to use the current raider as parts for the conversion. Most notably the engine block: http://img251.imageshack.us/img251/7623/sdc10804t.jpg http://img513.imageshack.us/img513/8945/sdc10805.jpg Maybe I'll go so far as to use most of the current raider's body and only the front part and tracks from the rogue trader one. Thanks for all your comments and welcome to my maddening world of never ending works in progress ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/213873-epic-warlord-dread-conversion/#findComment-2546095 Share on other sites
Hemal
Wow - great use of the Titan body - funnily enough I was thinking of going the other way and using a Dreadnaught as a base for a Titan conversion, but that has merit and I have a couple of spare beetlebacks lying around - but I would also be interested in knowing where those logs were sourced from, the defiler + Sentinel perchance? Natanael
Very nice work. This got me thinking of trying some GS press moulds. Might be an easy way to get hold of a few more heresy-era torsos and helmets. - Natanael Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/213873-epic-warlord-dread-conversion/#findComment-2546480 Share on other sites
Hemal
ACtually thinking about it - the combination of Dread + Beetleback might be a really good way of creating an alternate variant of the Emperor Titan - say a Stygies pattern! Thanks for the inspiration! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/213873-epic-warlord-dread-conversion/#findComment-2546515 Share on other sites
Retrograde
@Hemal: I'd love to see a titan conversion like that. Get to work man! As for the dread legs, I lengthened the originals with a few bits: http://img41.imageshack.us/img41/4256/sdc10807r.jpg @Natanael: Press molding works best on small single sided things like armour plates. Torsos are good as well because most of the join is hidden under the shoulder pads. On the whole pressings that require two sides to be joined up seamlessly are quite difficult. Here's a few other bits I've made with varying degrees of success: http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/7584/sdc10808s.jpg I made this Slaaneshi's body and head using three seperate parts and then sculpted the hair on: http://img522.imageshack.us/img522/2860/sdc10812r.jpg I was playing about with the those sponsons I'm going to use on the land raider: http://img828.imageshack.us/img828/3460/sdc10806.jpg If I go with the conversion beamers I might turn the raider into a dedicated titan hunter and arm it with a big ass neutron laser as well. Conversion beamers and a neutron laser, yes I like this idea :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/213873-epic-warlord-dread-conversion/#findComment-2546725 Share on other sites
Rogue Trader Voril
Do you basically do a milliput mold the same way as a green stuff? My experience is that milliput cures hard and stuck to anything it cures on. I'm using the red label milliput.
