Epic Warlord Dread Conversion

Retrograde

Recommended Posts

Yeah I noticed for example the howling griffons apothecary in the current codex looks a lot cooler than the other white marines and it's basically grey. I'll hopefully be heading for a happy medium between the two styes.

I think I discovered something useful while tidying up the first coat of grey. I thinned the paint but I suppose there will always be tiny imperfections in the finish. I used a normal piece of paper like you would use sandpaper to take them off. It worked but also buffed the acrylic to a shine. I'm going to try this on the metallic areas for more of a metal plated rather than painted look.

Ok so I tried a bit of painting, got angry and ended up converting again.

Here's my latest true scaled MK II, originally inspired by a 1000 Heathen's conversion. The guard and heresy marine are there for scale purposes.

The first helmet is an alternate , non-cyclopic, MK II from the FW ork kommando bosspole. It still needs a bit of repair work.

Thanks for looking

@Olisredan: Thanks mate, no the dread still isn't 100 percent done. I've got to track down another ork stubber to use as the exhausts. After that I think he'll pretty much be finished.

@Doghouse: Cheers man, I'm going to press mold the mark 2 body and legs. I should be able to knock out variants at will then

That Mk. II looks awesome, brother. I am honoured that my humble works could inspire such a gorgeous mini. Can't wait to see what else you got up your sleeve, keep up the awesome work!

So I've finally plucked up enough courage to undercoat the dread. My brother suggested I use raptor jump packs for the exhausts and I think the gothic arch style works perfectly with the titan back piece.

The jumpacks are only bluetacked on roughly at the moment but eventually I'll just be using the parts visable in the pic.

Thanks for looking

Hi sword brethren, I've never played tabletop and I've been into the fluff and modelling sides of the hobby for 18 years ;)

In some mythical time in the far future when I finally manage to assemble a decent fighting force and play a game (probably the year 40k) it will make sense to use the contemptor rules for this dread. They seem to be of a similar size but I think the contemptor is slightly taller. Your contemptor is the coolest I've yet seen, great work mate ;)

Hi Apostle85 and thanks. The heavy bolter is from the original scout plastics.

Here's my latest project, an olympia storm tank. It's a great kit if a little rough. It's taken me a couple of days to get to this point in the construction as I've had to bend, twist and pin the thing to get it together properly

Its going to be a while yet before I finish the thing. I'm going to widen the tracks significantly with green stuff before I attach them for extra win factor.

Cheers

I had thought about getting one of these myself a few times, but like you said, the kit looked a bit rough and I wasn't sure if I wanted to fork out the cash for a bad model. I'll be definetly be watching this little project with heavy intrest, my friend. Best of luck with the build!

Side question...is that Cobra Commander next to the tank?!?!? ;)

@1000Heathens: Hi mate ;) I knew the kit was a bit rough before I bought it so I was prepared for the worse. It actually Isn't too bad, not much warpage but still a pain to build the body without it looking bent like a banana. That's why I had to resort to pinning it.

That is indeed a cobra soldier, a viper, and possible future allies to my marines. There for scale reasons of course :(

Hi all

I've made some progress on the storm tank, still a WIP but..

I swapped the engine for a land raiders and I've gone for a redesign of the las sponsons. The original weapons were based on the concept art of a smaller tank but now look out of place as this kit is larger than a land raider.

Any comments, ideas are very much appreciated.

Cheers :D
