minionboy
So I'm interested the idea of building an army of the fallen, one which follows the events of the fall as told by Astelan (HERESY!!!), and his fate after being lost in the Warp. I'll be using the C:SM (so don't suggest Chaos please) book, since my fallen still loyal, albeit misunderstood, and seeking redemption. Since they are long separated, I figure they would most likely be more skilled and due to connections with rogue traders, possibly well armed, although not necessarily mounted in transports. I'll also be including Cypher, since I just love that guy. :tu: Here's my first shot at the army contents: HQ Master Astelan (pedro counts-as) Cypher (Captain, plasma pistol, relic blade (c'tan phase knife, not the lion sword)) Elites 3 units of Sternguard Veterans (2x Meltas, power fist) Troops 2 Tactical Squad (Missile, flamer, power fist) That still gives me 420 points towards my 2k army goal, with no idea what to add that would still be fluffy. I'll be using the pre-heresy paint scheme with tan or white robes, and the whole army will be made of the robed models, with pre-heresy bolters (Phobos for tacticals and Umbra Ferrox for sternguard) as well as utilizing the forgeworld special and heavy weapons. Any exposed armor will be converted to resemble MK2 where possible, although backpacks may be a pain. Any suggestions to expand this list a bit? Thanks! skawolf
For no reason whatsoever combi-flamers popped into my head for your sternguard squads....... Do with that what you will  Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/213905-building-the-fallen/#findComment-2545459 Share on other sites
Grand Master Belial
Cypher no longer has the C'tan phase knife. I would stick to his ability to use two pistols though the game rules would be a bit iffy. I am no means a great general so I'll leave that for another member. Fluffwise, utilize weapons and units that have a counterpart in the Chaos Marine book. So you could have bikes easily enough. Tanks are a very bitter fluff pill to swallow. If you were to have one in your army it should be modeled to look like it was salvaged from a battlefield and returned to service or that it was taken from another chapter. minionboy
I was debating between bikes and assault marines, since they were both around, I'm leaning more towards assault marines. As far as tanks go, I was considering a single land raider using the preheresy kit from forgeworld, but I'm still not a huge fan of the idea. I read about Cyphers knife, and I thought the story was kind of dumb, so I'm choosing to either ignore it, or say the events of this army occurred before that happened. As far as devastators go, how would a plas/bolter squad fit? I thought I read about DA having plasma cannons before the heresy. Thanks again! Isiah
Transports might be useful as might dreads for fire-support and extra cc potential. Other than that keep away from post-heresy stuff like speeders, assault cannons etc. Plasma sounds good and is effective - but the DA had no monopoly on it so don't feel compelled. Cheers I Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/213905-building-the-fallen/#findComment-2546158 Share on other sites

Cheers I Thanks Isiah, I've been debating using dreads and transports, I'm just not sure if they would be a good thing to haul around when you're fleeing, especially dreadnoughts, they're not known to be terribly fast, although I do love the models. Right now I'm leaning towards a predominantly footslogging force, that will probably have a large number of veterans, but I'm always open to more ideas. I'm wondering if Drop Pods would fit. It would allow them to do their sudden strikes, but I'm not sure if they'd have time to recover them after the battle. snorkle
I think droppods would fit well. You could say they use the old dreadclaw droppods so the issue of recovering them would be solved. Good luck with the fallen. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/213905-building-the-fallen/#findComment-2546352 Share on other sites
Isiah
Yes I'd think pods would work nicely. In fact they seem the archetypal assault transport pre-heresy - although in all honesty how they got blasted into the warp with the Lutheran marines when Caliban fell is anyone's guess :P. Puddle
is there any information on what units they would or wouldnt use? im under the assumption that the community knows basically nothing about this legion(?) so is building lists fair game? could i use the BA dex and base it around robed assault marines plus veterans without special characters? I think the standard marine or dark angel codex would be more appropriate. Since they were sucked into the warp at the end of the Heresy, they would only have equipment available in that time period. Also, they were the Terrans, their armor was most likely MKII or MKIII. You can find some answers for what is appropriate in pre-heresy here: http://z15.invisionfree.com/The_Great_Crus...?showtopic=3260 Here are the armies I'm using as inspiration for my Fallen: http://z15.invisionfree.com/The_Great_Crus...c=3779&st=0 http://z15.invisionfree.com/The_Great_Crus...c=3142&st=0 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/213905-building-the-fallen/#findComment-2547709 Share on other sites
