Lord Mordred
<Salute> This is my first draft of the Orient Brigade, a non-codex Chapter (so far, may return to codex standards once I finish writing it) whose secret rites are known only to themselves, ever-seekers of personal improvement as means to honor the gift given by the Emperor, as Freemasons try to achieve to honor God. It`s really hard to come up with something trully original, so I went for what pleases me most. Hope you like it, more to come after the first comments! Orient Brigade Full name Ancient and Accepted Free Marines of the Grand Orient Brigade <-Brothers will enjoy this Motto: LVCEAT LVX VESTRA <-Motto of my Lodge Colors: Gray and Orange Gold for metals EDIT <I've decided to go for the colors I like the most instead of emulating freemason vests mainly because I live overseas and I can't get my hands into the Spray cans, so painting white by hand without a decent primer is a pain! Symbols Pauldron - Genesis Chapter Pauldron, orange background, silver triangle and golden inverted V EDIT perhaps boths triangle and inverted V in gold, but different tones so they dont just blend Full Logo Genesis Chapter based logo, silver-gold with orange background over a six pointed star, flanked by laurels and O.`. and B.`. Motte with gothic lettering above the center Chief is a sun with two stars. http://www.caverna7.net/w40k/OrientBrigade/OrientBrigadeLogo.jpg Chapter Theme: Secret rites for personal development in the Emperor`s honor. Philosophical ranks, veterans use cloaks, cavalry commanders. Based on modern Freemason rites Founded 9th Founding 364.M33 Planet ORIENT VI Subsector Kadosh Segumentum Ultima Gene-seed Genesis Chapter Codex Non-codex Founding Facts: EDIT: Simply can't make it interesting enough with the current creation idea vs lore, so to hades with the background lol. So please enjoy the looks and logos I'm considering. Please don't stop from criticizing, it's jsut that I don't know enough of the Warhammer lore to make a decent attempt to create properly my Templar/Freemason Themed Chapter :) Ideas still running around, let's see where they go after I read more fluff. The biggest problem I'm facing is how to make them look like Dark Angels, while using the symbols from a Ultramarine sucessor. Monastic order is always a regular theme, so I'm trying to push a little to the sides of that. My original founding was a good old "they got lost and abandoned for dead and got out renewed by the doctrines they found on a ancient stronghold" but I assumed that was a bit too much clichê :P Perhaps a monastic order sheltered some Genesis marines left for dead after a Ork massacre and due the ork incursions they were designate to form a new chapter to combat that particular advance, gaining recruits from the monastic order itself (system wide), what about that? I like facing orkz cause my game buddy is assembling a Ork horde so it'll come in handy to have both armies like batman and joker: they exist to fight each other. See it's already getting a new face, I'll be back in a few days of studying! DRAFT - Poor grammar and phrasing expected Captaing Alterus and the 3rd Genesis Chapter, during the Great Battle of Casnov 5 many decades ago, he and his company gained the favor of the Adeptus Mechanicus by saving a transport fleet of vital supplies to the Forge World of ORIENT VI intercepted by Ork Raiders near Casnov system where the 3rd Genesis company was doing a routine patrol. The Techpriest Cinosanap, leader of the transport fleet, confided in Alterus the true nautre of their expedition, of which only transpired that it was very important for the Imperium and deadly in the wrong hands. Alterus helped the Techpriest reach the Forge World and even drove off the Orkz that followed the convoy. This was the begining of a great bong betweed Captain and Techpriest, which formally requested the 3rd company to regularly patrol the subsector. During the years of regular patrol, the Marines of the 3rd company grew fond of the population of the planet, which were very happy to finally have a host of marines. The Techpriest also learned that Alterus saw as the most dedicated way to honor the emperor was to prove and become themselves better, something he himself approved. The planet was also home of the Secret Reliquary Revival Order, a part of Adeptus Mechanicus that by order of the High Lords would try to restore parts of the ancient technology found across the galaxy. Due it`s secrecy, the planet was permanently closed to space travel, and rare was the space chart that it appeared. Circa 320.M33, a group of Genesis Chapter Marines, under the influence of Captain Alterus Haw and the local Librarians tried to stablish on the 3rd company a warrior lodge to cultivate and enhance fighting techniques as well as intelectual achievements. However The Genesis Chapter Master Tarikian denied vehemently the creation of a secret society within his ranks and threatened to send Alterus to the Inquisitors under suspicion of heresy. Encouraged by Cinosanap and to prevent Tarikian persecution, Alterusmade the first move:he gathered those hundred loyal warriors, along with the testimony of the Techpriest and petitioned to The High Lords of Terra. Given Alterus unmistakably clean record and his well know command abilities, it was then granted to allow him to prepare a new chapter. With 2 functional companies running on skeleton crew, Captain Alterus had a new chapter in the making. Techpriest Cinosanap, being great among the Techpriests, managed to get the soon to be born chapter stationed on the Forge World of ORIENT VI, and granted them a host of vehicles that was already set for depature to other chapters. For months the servitors and techmarines worked to refit the vehicles to Alterus standards, and when all the soldering and paint scratching was done, the Chapter had already gathered more neophytes, trained with the help of Ultramarines 8th Company. The Ancient & Accepted Grand Orient Brigade was then officially granted it`s independence on the 9th Founding with Captain Alterus promoted to Chapter Master. By the time of the founding it counted with 3 companies and the "loaned" Ultramarines 8th Company to help the training, and by the dawn of the 34th Millenia, it was a full fledged Chapter. Ranks Orient Brigade uses philosophical ranks instead of regular military. Ace Debonair
Welcome to the Liber! Reading through your draft, I felt I should bring a couple of things to your attention. Chapters are only ever created in one of the 26 foundings, so the story of how your chapter was given permission to exist wouldn't actually work. And secondly, a chapter wouldn't get a functioning forge-world as a homeworld. The AdMech wouldn't let it happen, nor the Inquisition - remember, there's the whole 'seperation of powers' thing going on in the Imperium. And that's aside from the probable lack of viable recruits for the chapter. :P Lastly, I'd advise you to have a good read of the DIY guide at the top of the forum - it's a great read and filled with useful information. :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/214026-the-aafm-grand-orient-brigade/#findComment-2547337 Share on other sites
Lord Mordred
Hehe it was reading the DYI that put me in the mess trying to avoid the clichês and other stuff ;) I think I'll revise it to make it not quite as a "requisition" but a "you're a nice fella, there's a founding next wednesday so let's give you the chapter you deserve and no one needs to know that you're a schmuck", think that will pass? About the Forge World, I tried to make it as a backwater planet that happens to be a forge world, but I didn't read the WHOLE separation stuff, so a planet nearby is acceptable, but I really want ot keep the Mutual ADmech-Captain "trust" Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/214026-the-aafm-grand-orient-brigade/#findComment-2547919 Share on other sites
Shinzaren
The Techpriest Cinosanap, leader of the transport fleet, confided in Alterus the true nautre of their expedition, of which only transpired that it was very important for the Imperium and deadly in the wrong hands. Why would the AdMech reveal their secrets to an Astartes Captain? They are known to be EXTREMELY secretive, insular, and very very distrusting. Alterus helped the Techpriest reach the Forge World and even drove off the Orkz that followed the convoy. This was the begining of a great bong betweed Captain and Techpriest, which formally requested the 3rd company to regularly patrol the subsector. Why would the Genesis Chapter agree? Losing an entire company on a permanent basis wouldn't be a good idea for a Chapter? Unless the AdMech is giving them something. During the years of regular patrol, the Marines of the 3rd company grew fond of the population of the planet, which were very happy to finally have a host of marines. The Techpriest also learned that Alterus saw as the most dedicated way to honor the emperor was to prove and become themselves better, something he himself approved. Marines are pretty stoic people with not a lot emotions. I dunno if they would "grow fond" of a population. Every marine of every chapter constantly tries to get better. I dunno if it's worth mentioning. All parts of AdMech have this goal. Also, the High Lords stay out of the affairs of the AdMech. Much like the Astartes, they aren't so much a part of the Imperium, as an ally to it. I doubt this facility would have anything to do with the HLoT. Lastly, Circa 320.M33, a group of Genesis Chapter Marines, under the influence of Captain Alterus Haw and the local Librarians tried to stablish on the 3rd company a warrior lodge to cultivate and enhance fighting techniques as well as intelectual achievements. The Astartes don't really have any reason for this. They are protectors and warriors, not cultivators of technique and intellectual achievement. However The Genesis Chapter Master Tarikian denied vehemently the creation of a secret society within his ranks and threatened to send Alterus to the Inquisitors under suspicion of heresy. As he should. Encouraged by Cinosanap and to prevent Tarikian persecution, Alterus made the first move: he gathered those hundred loyal warriors, along with the testimony of the Techpriest and petitioned to The High Lords of Terra. Given Alterus unmistakably clean record and his well know command abilities, it was then granted to allow him to prepare a new chapter. More likely he would be found guilty of heresy by secession for leading 100 marines away their honor bound oaths to the Chapter Master and Emperor. This is a bad way to get a new chapter started. Plus, Captains don't get an audience with the High Lords. Techpriest Cinosanap, being great among the Techpriests, managed to get the soon to be born chapter stationed on the Forge World of ORIENT VI, and granted them a host of vehicles that was already set for depature to other chapters. If he has this much power and influence among the populace, I would recommend that he be a Magos, not a Techpriest. Also, as Ace mentioned, Forgeworlds are bad places to make Chapter Homeworlds. For months the servitors and techmarines worked to refit the vehicles to Alterus standards, and when all the soldering and paint scratching was done, the Chapter had already gathered more neophytes, trained with the help of Ultramarines 8th Company. Name dropping. Why would the Ultramarines commit to helping a group of marines who forswore their oaths. I doubt they'd want anything to do with them. The Ancient & Accepted Grand Orient Brigade was then officially granted it`s independence on the 9th Founding with Captain Alterus promoted to Chapter Master. Interesting title considering that I doubt they would Accepted, and having been just created, not Ancient either. Ranks Orient Brigade uses philosophical ranks instead of regular military. Why? Why not use Codex ranks? Some thoughts for you. Sorry if my delivery was a bit harsh, that's kinda my thing... Lord Mordred
Some thoughts for you. Sorry if my delivery was a bit harsh, that's kinda my thing... No worries <_< I really need to get the canon stuff very well read and understood before trying this  Most of the stuff you questioned is because I'm trying to amke a freemason/templar themed chapter, using some o the terms "ancient and accepted..." for example. Like I said on the edit, let me study and we'll see what follows! Thanks!
