Lightning Claws and Storm Shields

Hello all

I fancy building a new lot of Vanguard Vets, all with Claws and SS's. I will probably use DC or Sanguinary guard for the legs, bodies and helms, but where would you recommend I get the claws and shields from? I want at least 5, but preferably up to 10.

Thanks guys

G

I got used these for my storm shields for my HG:

They are cheap and look awsome i also bought the dark elf spears and replaced the spear heads with the blades of power swords to make power spears. I used the sang guard for the base of the model. I will take pics once they are painted up.

They also sell power claws.

There is a storm shield blister pack that gw sell it comes with 5 shields and 5 veteran shoulder pads. The space marine commander set comes with a single lightning claw and lots of other handy bits so is a good bits investment! Assault terminator arms can also be modified to make lightning claws

Buy a couple SM commander boxes. It's all good stuff in there, so nothing will go to waste and you'll have some left-handed plastic LC's. If you want paired LCs, you can get them from the assault termy box (just cut them at the elbow and glue them to power armour arms).

For the SS, have you thought about this?

If you don't mind the different appearance, you could also use the shield from the assault squad. It should be a combat shield but since there is no pistol on the arm unlike on the shield from the command squad, it could be used as a storm shield. At least that's what I did with my VV Sergeant.

You could even greenstuff a lightning bolt or something on it since it has a large flat surface.

Check out my Sgt. with the Combat shield and a Blood Angels Drop Pod icon. I'm going to use this for a Storm Shield, came out pretty nice. Also I have a Dark Angels Storm Shield that I'm going to cut the sword off and file some edges, then green stuff a blood drop between the existing wings.

My BA thread

Here's a link to what I did with the Sang. Guard Wing

This is an interesting topic - I have my storm shields mostly sorted now, but claws (or counts as claws) I'm not so sure on. I dont like all the lightening claws that are out there, they seem WAY too large and cartoony for me, more giant foam hand than deadly astartes weapon.

I have started making my own with a standard marine arm and original dark eldar blades (the bayonets) to get a more 'power armour scale' lightening claw, but I'm still not certain.

What are people using out there other than the standard lightening claws? What's being used as Counts As? I quite like the spear idea, with all the angelic warrior connotations, but I have a feeling it may look unweildy on assault marines in jump packs....

I have seen some very well executed Rhino doors used as full body Storm Shields: They look like Police riot shields, and you can even cut out notches for peeking through. Paint big scary logos too!

My commander's lightning claws were made from dress-making pins, glued to the back of a normal hand; they come out very graceful and slender, although you need to take care when picking her up! I always found GW LC hands ridiculously big and chunky for a weapon that hits at initiative, and on a female model, just didn't look right at all.

That sounds awesome. Care to show some pictures?
The terminator storm shield looks real good on a marine model. Just don't use the whole arm just the forearm and hand. It's not as hard as it seems. I did up my vanguard sgt this way. I wish I had it painted. The model is primed black and hard to show in a picture.
