bulley
Righto, I've had a good few games now since I've returned to the game after a long break, and been largly successful. However I've never actually played against pure Demons, and I think potentially I am playing against them tonight, and thus presents a problem where I'll have zero idea of target priority. I understand I'll probably be facing a good few deepstriking demons trying to get inclose. Whats the major things to be aware of, lash and stuff like that? I run 1500 mech. Any quick advice would be great. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/214063-advice-chaos-demons/ Share on other sites
hazardousZERO
The main thing is GET THE CHARGE. Shoot his blood-letters and any other CnC monsters. Charge his shooty and tough units. Sense your meq outmaneuver him. Otherwise just hold your objectives as best as you can. His blood-letters are essentially bezerkers with power-weapons so don't send in some marines without invuls or they will get chopped up quick. Plauge berears are tough and will probably be camping on objectives so get in close shoot then charge. He can take a bunch of CnC beasts like what I would do id 2 blood-thirsters and 3 daemon princes. That would be such a tough but expensive army. I would just recommend outmaneuvering him as best you can. Also if he does have some heavy hitters maybe take some units that will tie him up a bit. Lastly keep some things in reserve id go with a dread in a drop pod or 3 drop them in his "lines" or in a place where they can do some major damage and distractions. Erasmus of Baal
The only thing I can recommend is volume of shots/attacks over strong ones. You can't ignore their Invulnerable Saves, so force them to take so many saves that they fail. The only problem, then, is their big guys--Monstrous Creatures, which volume and snipers can usually hurt, and the Soulgrinder, which you have to anti-tank. I haven't had a chance to prove it yet, but I really think that a Tactical Squad-heavy army will smash them to pieces. Zeller
Furioso dreadnoughts. Send them against his troops and non MC targets. They (the demons) will never ever win the fight and never ever break since they're fearless. MM attack bike and dakka the MC and princes. MM attack bike any soulgrinders. Destroy whole squads at at time. If you're fighting nurgle then bring AP2 or power weapons to negate the feel no pain. It's a pain in the butt otherwise. Just watch for the tzeentch demons with warp jaws. They'll mess up your tanks. igotsmeakabob!!
I've played against Chaos Daemons twice. In my experience, it isn't the little Daemons you have to worry about. At all. Really. They can be shot to death, and if not shot then charged and wiped on said charge. The things you have to watch out for are the Greater Daemons he's going to throw at you... they're what you have to plan for. Dingareth
Hope he's playing a Blood-Crusher based list and ram a Dreadnaught down their throat. If he's playing Fiends, shoot them- they're much more trouble than Crushers. bulley
Cheers for the advice. He had a very unusual army - will put it up in my battle report. Based around Tzeench It was kill points and I won 7-6 - in 7 turns. I played VERY defensivily, almost to a fault, and while it didnt cost me, I could have probably got more KP's quite easily and quickly. But again, thanks for the advice, it has been taken well on board for future games! BLACK BLΠFLY
I think you played it right. Daemons are a tough to crack for Marines in general. Defense is safe. If the daemon player is rolling hot for their INV saves it can be a long hard game. 0b :cuss Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/214063-advice-chaos-demons/#findComment-2548069 Share on other sites
Angelus Mortifer
Just to reinforce some of what's been said based on my experience, Dreads of almost any flavour are great at bogging down and killing their Troops, but specifically against Bloodletters. Standard units can deal with most of their "regular" infantry but getting the charge on these guys takes them out of the game essentially. Gtr Daemons and Princes can be dealt with as you would do against most other MCs - high strength weaponry and weight of fire. Force the dice rolls on your oppoenent. I tend to Reserve a lot to counter their Deep Striking and have a bit more control as to where and how to react to their arrival. Also, be prepared to sacrifice units to achieve a better result in the long run...
