Modifying Codex Paint Scheme?

Recommended Posts

I have been mulling over an idea for a few years, but I want to try to get it working. I am working on a plan with a codex army that uses an alternate color scheme for the codex astartes. This is an experiment but using the shoulder pad rim color for the shading color on a white model. An example of this would be a marine from the fifth company would have black shading in addition to the shoulder pad rims with white armor. Is there any opinion on if this would work or not? Also some colors would be changed to make the shading part easier. I wanted an easier almost skeletal look to the marines or more akin to Stormtroopers from Star Wars. Any thoughts or suggestions.

Shoulder pad trim isn't the only way to denote company color so how you do it isn't entirely a concern. If you are going to use it as a shade color for white though then your concern will be working on getting the blends right so you don't up with a sky-blue marine and a "yellow-snow" marine and so on if you change companies.
Thanks, I hadn't considered that. I thought it might be interesting to have a white marine with a shading for their company color, but I don't know how to make this work. I was going to work on a few tests, though I wasn't sure how it would work. I was thinking of trying the WFB Tomb kings trick of white wash then drybrush white or white +bleached bone. I know it works for the WFB players.
