Word Bearers and their Faith

Someone as straight-laced as Robot Girlyman would think twice I'm sure, but poor Lorgy has just had his dreams shattered

I still don't condone Lorgar's WILLFUL disregard of everything and up to his father denying his divinity and I CERTAINLY don't concede that his shattered ego and flagrant fanaticism excuse his betrayal of his brothers, father, and dooming the galaxy to madness at the hands of the Chaos gods.

I mean, jeez man, you could at least go shopping around if looking for some gods to worship. I hear the Orks got two real party animals on their side of things. :D

Now THAT would be an interesting book. It's a tricky enough task convincing your species that the big E has got it wrong without trying to add that um......*cough* it's the orks that had it right all along :D

Again, to play devils advocate (Lorgar's advocate doesn't sound right), the betrayal is necessary in his eyes. He's grudgingly accepted that the Emp isn't divine so if he isn't god then he must be capable of error. It's this capacity to be wrong that makes Lorgar think he knows best. He thinks he's saving the Imperium from a soul-chomping fate like the Eldar.

By the time we have Istvaan, Lorgar even has a substantial chunk of his brothers on side further justifying his actions (in his mind of course).

Is he correct? No

Is he misguided as hell? Yes

Did he betray his father and brothers for personal gain? No

Horus sold out the Emp because he was jealous (simplifying I know)

Lorgar thought he was doing the right thing for everyone and though the price was high, some people feel that the end justifies the means :D

Edit; I had to add that yes, Lorgar clocking Malcador was churlish to say the least

You'll defend Logars arogance on the grounds that he was saving humanity (at least in his eyes), but not Horus who bought the vision that if he didn't the species of man would become stagnant. Isn't that a double standard?

Possibly ;)

I think however that Horus' position was also coloured by the Emps abandonment of the Great Crusade (as far as he sees it). Horus didn't just buy into a vision of mankind becoming stagnant, he also bought into the stance that daddy was using them all to further his own ends seeking godhood.

Horus' betrayal, whilst heavily facilitated by the big four and Erebus, was born from the notion that Empy didn't really care for the efforts and works of his Great Crusade. And seeing how Horus had been given the honorific of Warmaster, the title becomes a bit of a sham if you feel you're being used to further the ambitions of another and that your career is a bit of a lie.

So in answer to your question, maybe I'm biased towards Lorgar because of my personal, real life love for the Wordies, but I still maintain his position can be justified better than Mr Lupercals :P
