DaPiranha
We've got a narrative campaign going on at my local club. The story and army developing as the campaign progresses, starting at 750 points and working upto 2000. The bloke running the campaign has really gone to town with the background and setting, each week we battle the story gets more detailed as the missions dictate. This has inspired me to write my first battle report to cover the actions of my Angels. It seemed to go down well at the club and one of the guys suggested I post it here to see what you guys thought. This is the first battle versus a mixed bag of Chaos Daemons and includes a bit of scene setting. I have written up the following battles too but I'll see what you make of this one before posting the others. It's a bit long so I apologise now. If anyone has any comments or criticisms that would help me write up the battles to come would be gratefully recieved. Cheers Sergeant Crupectus could still hear Mephistons words echoing around his head as his mission was explained. Idly he wondered whether it was due to the master psychers powers or just the fact that he had spent five long weeks as he travelled the warp musing on them. The Lord of Death had impressed on him the need for urgency and secrecy on his mission to Praxis Oberon Prime. He was being given command over two additional assault squads as well as leadership of his own in order to achieve his objectives which are (Censored – Access Level Magenta required). A chime on his vox roused him from his thoughts “ Sergeant we have achieved orbit behind the third moon of the planet, the forces below should be unaware of our presence” “Thank you Captain Barenko” he replied “Maintain this position, monitor transmissions and keep me informed of the movements of the other forces” “At your command my Lord” confirmed the Captain. “Sergeants Rurik and Taluta ready your squads for deployment and meet me in the Thunderhawk bay in five minutes” Crupectus ordered his men. “Yes Brother” replied Rurik whereas Taluta just gave a curt “On route” he had remained aloof since his squad lost brother Arkin due to catastrophic failure of his plasma pistol on Gormain against the Orks. Crupectus gathered his squad from the armoury and made his way to the transports. With a crash of fire the Thunderhawks entered the atmosphere of Prime. With a cry of “For Sanguinius, squads deploy!” Crupectus dove out of the Thunderhawk with his squad closely behind. Using their jump packs to slow their descent they made planetfall. “Squads fan out, search pattern Delta! Remember your briefing when you close in on the objectives maintain guard around them and await my arrival” Crupectus ordered his men. “Brother Vala how far to the nearest objective according the signum” “Just over that rock crest Sergeant” “Stay alert men” The three assault squads moved forward across the plains. Deeper into the territory a crack appeared. This wasn’t a crack in the ground caused by an earthquake, it was a crack in the fabric of the universe caused by something far more sinister and infinitely more evil. Bathed in a foul light daemons from the emporium poured from the warp. Led by a dark Champion of Tzeentch the horrors clawed their way into the world followed by four slug bodied beasts of Nurgle and then burning the trail left by the beasts three Flamers followed. With a clap of thunder the crack closed. With a sentience that was wholly due to the blessings of the dark gods the daemons became aware of the approaching marines. With a guttural roar the Champion pointed a taloned finger in their direction and the beasts oozed their way towards the Blood Angels, the Flamers chose the path of subtlety and flew towards the marshland ready to pounce when the marines approached. While his minions sought to do his bidding the champion spoke a word of power and split the ground near him in search of something. With a howl of frustration the daemon realised that he would have to work harder to earn the dark gods blessings. “Brother Sergeant Crupectus! Daemons have broken from the warp!” Shouted Sergeant Rurik “I am engaging!” “Do not enter the marshland engage the enemy at range” Replied Crupectus. “Taluta move behind the ruin and prepare to flank the enemy.” “Order received Brother” and with a rising cloud of fire the squad flew on. Seeing his men move into position as ordered Crupectus began to search the area located by the signum.. Within minutes he came to the conclusion that this location was not his objective and he prepared his squad to move out. Sergeant Rurik moved into position on the edge of the marshland, seeing the flamers struggling to move through the boggy terrain he understood Crupectus’ reluctance to let him engage them up close and personal. His squad followed his lead and took aim at the incandescent figures moving towards them. “Squad fire!” with a hail of bolter fire and streaks of plasma the Flamers withered, two of them being pushed back to the warp. Rurik looked to his internal screen and saw that Brother Ortaws Plasma Pistol had failed and resulted in his injury. He would have to agree with Taluta that Brother Incaraels armourers needed to do more to overcome these issues. The Chaos Champion felt the loss of the flamers and sent the remaining one after their killers. The beasts slimed their way onwards blackening the earth on their way to the marines. Preparing his horrors the champion moved into a more sacred positioning and unleashed a barrage of eldritch fire at the closest Blood Angel unit in a synchronised move the remaining flamer poured its malice over them. When the flames dissipated only two marines were left standing. Incensed by the decimation of his squad Rurik charged at the remaining flamer his powerfist crackling with lightning as he lunged towards the daemon. “Taluta take down the beasts! I will move against the horrors!” cried Crupectus. “By your word brother” he replied. The two squads moved into position and unleashed a barrage of fire at the monsters before them watching in disgust as one of nurgle beasts burst apart in a shower of putrid goo. Amazingly one of the beasts regrew an eye stalk that was blown off just moments before. Two horrors were scythed down by the bolter fire the remaining others gibbered as the Blood Angels approached. Taluta and his men charged at the foul beasts chainswords whirring cutting one of the beasts down as it vomited acid onto one of the marines. Crupectus readied his axe and swung in for the kill bifurcating one of the horrors as his men cut into the others. Rurik exacted his revenge on the flamer by tearing it apart with his powerfist, magical sparks cascading down around him. The Chaos Champion watched as the daemons were banished back to the warp seeing his plans unravelling around him. As a final act of spite before a chainsword cut into him he called down Khornes minions to slaughter the marines. The beasts wounding Rurik by lashing out with a tentacle. Taluta wiped the sickening sludge from the last beast from his powerfist. Hearing the trampling of heavy hooves he turned to see Khorne Bloodcrushers bearing down on them sparks flying from their brass hides. “Crupectus, we have more company, we need support” “Taluta, my men and I will leap over them and together we’ll pincer them” Positioning behind the charging Bloodcrushers the unit pelted the Khorne daemons bolt rounds pinging off their metal skin. Crupectus took aim with his Infernus pistol and melted one of the warp spawn to slag. Seeing one of them fall both squads took the cue to charge and clattered into the remaining daemons. Their screeching hellblades cut down two of the marines before the combined rage of the sons of Sanguinius tore them apart in righteous fury. The Bloodletters could smell the blood on the air and moved into a nearby ruin ready to move against the Blood Angels. Sergeant Taluta felt the onset of the Red Thirst at the destruction around him, seeing the remaining Bloodletters moving in the ruins he lost restraint and flew at them his squad barely keeping up. Firing as they flew the Bloodletters fell apart in bursts of wet ichor, unleashing frag grenades from above the Bloodletters rocked in their cover as the marines hit. Fury unleashed spread through the squad as they dismembered the Khorne daemons. Seeing the battle conclude Crupectus moved towards objective gamma. Searching the marshland he found what he had been looking for. “Pilot, bring the Thunderhawks back for pick up, we have achieved our objectives, take us off this rock” Taluta could feel the thirst ebbing, the Black rage wouldn’t claim him today he walked towards Crupectus. “Objective completed, the artefact has been found brother we must return to the Bloodcaller to begin tests. We must be prepared for what is to come!”
amphoterik
Good read. I enjoyed it. I picture of the battlefield would have helped a bit, but I liked the narrative style.
