lothbrok
i have a friendly tournament coming up and was thinking of using an all bloodclaw/priest list. basicully i was wondering if anyone else had tried this and if it was viable. littlbitz
Doable? certainly, and you will probably have a blast charging everything you can get your claws on. Will it win the Tournament? Probably not... I am curious about the list, why not throw it up in the Army List forum so I can have a look. S. Bloodhowl
Trust me t will struggle a bit, the list I run has 2 Blood Claw Packs and 1 Grey Hunter Pack, played my friend against his space wolves last sunday and got mauled by his 3 grey hunter packs. To answer your question your probably best with just one Blood Claws Pack led by your Wolf Priest and the rest as Grey hunters Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/214450-all-bloodclaws/#findComment-2553086 Share on other sites
Grimtooth
I would do the following: 3 Wolf Priests attached to 11 man BC units in 3 LRR. 3 WGPL attached to 9 man BC units in Rhinos 5x TWC 5x TWC 5x TWC ????? PROFIT! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/214450-all-bloodclaws/#findComment-2553088 Share on other sites
Wysten
While Grey Hunters have perfected the art of 40K warfare of being good, reliable troops that can fight in close combat as well are iin bolter range and hence are ideal for Rhino transport and assualt roles, Blood claws are stagment and are closer repersentative of assualt troops in other codex's, limited to a singluar role. Problem is, they actually do their job worse then Grey Hunters unless they get the charge off due to lower weapon and BS skill, and they need great numbers to take true advantage of that. They, unlike Grey Hunter, also lack banners, mark of wolfen and bolters. They are pretty much a fighting melee unit when we already have one and don't offer enough over the grey hunters. Skyclaws and swift claws are more helpful due to their better mobilty without adding a huge amount of points to it. Something worth looking at. lothbrok
i've used skyclaws many times and have always been happy with them, particularly when they destroyed two deamon princes a squad of berzerkers and a greater deamon all in one game. so obviously i was planning on a squad or two of them with a wolf priest added in for good measure. Blarmb
Blood Claws are a decent unit that are fairly priced for what they do. You'll be able to hold your own with them. Grey Hunters are an excellent unit that are under-priced for what they do. You'd be able to excel with them. In short you're selling yourself short by taking blood claws, but not crippling yourself. lothbrok
so basically i should take a core of grey hunters and then just use a couple units of skyclaws to supplement the hunters with unit crushing charge power. S. Bloodhowl
so basically i should take a core of grey hunters and then just use a couple units of skyclaws to supplement the hunters with unit crushing charge power. Pretty much, you could probably get away with one big pack or a couple of smaller ones to support the Grey Hunters but if you try to rely entirely on them it just doesn't work. Here's an example, 10 Blood Claws charge 10 Grey Hunters (who get counter-charge) Blood Claws get 40 attacks hitting on 4's wounding on 4's Grey Hunters get 30 attacks hitting on 3's wounding on 4's Even without a wolf standard the Grey Hunters are going to have a better chance of winning than the Blood Claws, that extra WS makes all the difference. asmodai650
I ran a full 10 man pack of skyclaws last night with a meltagun and powerfist, and attached a Wolf Priest to them. These guys make excellent support for grey hunters. Their high mobility combined with the rerolls and fearless that you get from the preist make them a tough unit to deal with. This also provides me a way to get a useful blood claws squad without having to also get a land raider to drive them around in. Durfast Spiritwolf
a 15 strong pack of BCs makes a useful counter attack force, sturdy enough to take some hits and many opponents are wary of it from previous codeces. I used to run two packs of 15, but now rarely even run one - GH just do everything the BC can do, but better!
