LPetersson
Battle Mission: Defending Space Wolves (Defenders) vs Eldar (Attacker) 3000 points The appearance of a piece of Russ' armour on the jungle world of Moltrak causes The Great Wolf to awaken the mightiest of the chapters heroes and go forth to retrieve it. Little do they know that it is an Eldar maiden world and they will not let the mon-keighs escape alive. The mission has an objective in the middle of the table and the defenders (Space Wolves) can deploy up up to 12" away from the objective. The attacker (Eldar) can deploy 18" or further away from the objective. The defender can only put Fast Attack or Deep Strikers in reserve, the attacker *must* start with HQ and Heavy choices in reserve. Players take turns at placing units in either reserve or on the table with the Defender placing the first unit. Although I don't write it, Njal casts stormcaller on every turn and where there is shooting to be done, he was a deft hand with living lightning. Set-up: On my left flank I put Jarl Fireclaw As close to the Eldar Guardians and a Wave Serpent with Dire Avengers as I could, with Bjorn in close support. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4125/5133359167_085d194d0a.jpg On the left flank I parked my Land Raider (Standard pattern, I just grabbed the wrong one on my way out the door) with 5 termies inside. Next to it we have another squad, this one with a heavy flamer and Arjac ready to make short work of the Harlequins hiding in the forest in front of the Vypers. http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1191/5133959486_d8c937987f_b.jpg Just north of the forest, by the far western corner there is a Wave Serpent with Dire Avengers, same as the one by the guardians. The rest of my deployment, from top to bottom: Hrolf Long Tooth (TL-LC/ML dread) and Njal Stormcaller, Termies with Cyclone ML and on the bottom another Dread with TL-LC, Logan Grimnar, A Rune Priest and another squad of termies with CML. http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1180/5133960368_572ef7b907_b.jpg Space Wolves turn 1 Thanks to Bjorns masterful tacticianship, I went first and Jarl Fireclaw sprinted towards the guardians, but was sadly unable to get within range to charge them. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4059/5133961198_e29f77b691_b.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4045/5133362631_09ff953725_b.jpg An empty drop pod also came in near to the objective. Meanwhile, on the left flank, the mighty land raider surges forwards and unleashes it's fearsome cargo who manages to do sweet FA to the three vypers. Arjac's squad unleashes the hole wrath of the allfather from the heavy flamer which takes out several harlequins. http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1170/5133363759_4d8fbcb863_b.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4030/5133365037_1f2e81bd33_b.jpg In the following assault Arjac and posse wipes out the remaining harlequins while the other Termie squad kills two vypers and stuns the 3rd. http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1393/5133366023_cc0f6c19b4_b.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4084/5133966534_9c2f8d33f1_b.jpg And thus ends Space Wolves turn 1 Eldar Turn 1 This was pretty one sided since no re-inforcements could come on the board. The guardians fired ineffectually in the air at some passing birds and the last Vyper got killed. http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1317/5133368619_85cb0ccfe0_b.jpg Space Wolves turn 2 Arjac jumped into the Land Raider which utrned and went towards the eastern flank. the squad that wiped out the Vypers moved into the forest to have a picnic and some beer. http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1328/5133969272_ca80e3a075_b.jpg Everything else just fired at either the Guardians or the Wave Serpent: http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1127/5133370957_0b153434ef_b.jpg http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1236/5133971238_0b16ff4dbb_b.jpg Eventually the Wave Serpents couldn't withstand the fury of the righteous and the foul stench of Dire Avengers filled the air is they spewed forth from the blasphemous creations that carried them like a tumour: http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4032/5133373765_f0b50ce588_b.jpg Eldar Turn 2: The guardians surged forwards to try shooting Jarl Fireclaw in the back (Cowards that they are) and brought the mighty machine to a halt. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4023/5133974848_2e668df1cb_b.jpg And suddenly reserves started flooding in for the beleagured Eldar forces. Warp Spiders warped in next to Logan Grimnar and felled some noble heroes, but the great wolf knew that the axe of Morkai would taste Eldar blood soon enough. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4051/5133979834_92e46a0afc_b.jpg A Falcon swooped in next to the mighty land raider and fire dragons burst forth, but their weak eldar weapons were no match for the skill of the iron priests of Fenris and the land raider merely suffered a malfunctioning weapon . Barely a flesh wound to the noble machine's spirit. To the slight North-East of the objective another Wave Serpent with Dire Avengers landed and let loose its cargo. They slaughtered a squad leaving only a single Wolf Guard who made a tactical retreat. http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1085/5133975760_9e15a48aa1_b.jpg From the north and south somw Warwalkers emerged from the surrounding forest firing their star cannons, but all for naught. Although a few brave heroes were sent into the red dream, they were unable to make much of a difference. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4055/5133976720_3e5f80c0b9_b.jpg A tactical Overview at the end of the Eldar's turn 2: http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4104/5133381371_5e4f5dc924_b.jpg And so we come to Space Wolves turn 3, where the mighty heroes of Fenris strike back at the nefarious and cowardly Eldar. Another drop pod with great heroes in sturdy terminator armour lands gently by the land raider as Arjac and posse comes out and prepare to assault the fire dragons and the falcon they rode in on. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4046/5133981788_0867747859_b.jpg Logan Grimnar and his retinue prepare their inexorable march towards the dastardly warp spiders, granting some of them the Emperor's mercy from their bolters while preparing to slay their wicked foes with blade and fist. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4133/5133982872_7ebe89bbc1_b.jpg Bjorn headed towards the most recent Wave serpent that had arrived and prepared to ruin it's blasphemous being. http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1334/5133985960_944e73b75e_b.jpg Arjac flung his mighty hammer, but failed to hit the Falcon while the heavy flamer poured holy promethium over the fire dragons and burned most of them all to a crisp: http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4125/5133987006_e2e06d3e30_b.jpg I also finished off most of his War Walkers leaving him with little that could do me serious damage. At the end of my turn, my valiant opponent decided that his remaining Eldar had had enough and the noble warriors of Fenris were declared victors in yet another conflict. All that remains is a picture of the monstrous creature who took to the field of battle a number of times and almost caused the death of many brave Fenrisians. http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1226/5133987920_69378eb71e.jpg The =][= Ordo Xenos has been called to deal with this creature. Anyway, I will admit that I rolled statistically higher numbers on average that I should have throughout most of the game, which caused me to fail leaderships regularly as well as caused Jarl to be wrecked and and the glancing hit on the land raider to be a weapon destroyed. My opponent on the other hand did seem to roll spectacularly poorly although he did cause afew casualties and Logan was down to 1 wound by the end of the game. All in all a good game. Darkseer
"aah, the unpainted, it burns!!" Look like you had fun though :tu: I'd drop the dreadnoughts and get more Terminators Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/214531-batrep-sw-vs-space-elves/#findComment-2554190 Share on other sites
CainTheHunter
I especially liked the monstrous creature - when fielding this type of beasts, it's the most difficult to force them move only 6". Btw, is he really deployed next to the fridge? Very clever and strategical, indeed... LPetersson
"aah, the unpainted, it burns!!"Look like you had fun though ;) I'd drop the dreadnoughts and get more Terminators Unless someone paints them for me or they start painting themselves they aren't gonna get painted in a hurry. Painting is the part of our hobby that I dislike the most... Last game I had more termies, but I feel that the Dreadnoughts provide more versatility. I especially liked the monstrous creature - when fielding this type of beasts, it's the most difficult to force them move only 6".Btw, is he really deployed next to the fridge? Very clever and strategical, indeed... Well, he started in reserves and entered the field on random turns and destroys everything in a straight(ish) line ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/214531-batrep-sw-vs-space-elves/#findComment-2554274 Share on other sites
Bulldogging
Well, he started in reserves and entered the field on random turns and destroys everything in a straight(ish) line :) Jaws of the World Cat? Bulweih
Very inspiring brother, putting those cowardly space elves to the torch :) . I'm especially fond of your style of writing, very 40k ish (disgusting language beat I know) with humorous edge, thumps up! In my opinion dreads also make target priority that much harder for the opponent, harder than TDA's for sure. All in all it sounds like you had a mighty good time and won, so here's some Ale... *rolls a big barrel of wolfwhiz in his direction* is it just me or was the mission from the battlemissions book? I only played it once before against IG, hard stuff. For my part I would be pleased to read more of where that came from in the near future. I do get rather inspired by the vigorous and bombastic language which I feel is right and appropriate  Yup, it was a mission from the Battle Missions book where the SM are defenders. My friends and I have gotten bored of the usual 9 in the BRB so I got the battle missions book. I hope to have more for you as soon as I can get some more games in. I'll be fighting Orks next Thursday :-D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/214531-batrep-sw-vs-space-elves/#findComment-2554347 Share on other sites
