Br0ther Rafen
Hi guys I was flipping through the codex the other day, and I was having a read of Tycho's profile and special rules. While Captain Tycho isn't very great, Death Co. Tycho is pretty good on paper, with some Death Company for help. Again though, this is on paper. Does anyone have any proper experiance, and could those same persons give me some advice? Thanks Rafen
Judaz
Psycho is a beast, but he can't be included in a squad and that brings him down in my eyes. 170pts for a raging single model? Not worth it imo. You'd do better with a chaplain joining the DC than including Psycho. It's too bad because Tycho/Psycho have good fluff, but I just can't find the points to field him. shatter
It's funny you should say that. He's almost a bloodfist DC dread' HQ, only physically smaller. Main difference is of course not being a vehicle at all yet his anti-vehicle ability is similar. While he can't ID by strength vs toughness, he does have higher I (5/6), better WS and has an inv save. His last perk is you get the HQ slot sorted so if one likes dreads, one is kinda swapping the need for an HQ for another DC dread(-like model). Fleet or relentless with sternguard ammo on his combi metla makes him very versatile turn by turn, even though he rages. I have yet to use him, but my list-in-the-works has him, meph and DC dreads with a big DC and I'm looking forward to it.
yodaid764
I have used DC Tycho a few times (since I went to the trouble of doing up a custom version of him using the new BA kits). So far, I have been mildly disappointed. I think that it mostly results from the fact that I sent him against things that could tear him to shreds (mega nobs) because I figured he could take them. While he did inflict a few wounds, those power klaws can still ID him. :D I think if I use him better I would have better results. But honestly, Rage and lack of being an IC is what really makes him nigh unplayable or at least not worth taking in most lists. The fact he cannot even join a damn DC squad is what is really stupid when they released the FAQ.
Brother_Dan'l
I'm of the mind that if he where available in the same way as Lemartes (an upgrade but for non-jump squads) he'd be worth bringing. As an HQ he's just kind of silly. What kind of leadership is he providing? :) Imagine bringing Astorath and having Lemartes with the jumpers and Tycho in a Redeemer full of DC. :D
Br0ther Rafen
Well, what about transporting him in a Rhino/LR? Him and Death Company would just rip apart any scary squad with massed bolter/special wepon fire, and then assualt the poor buggers. Not sure if you can place both units in a vehicle though. Any thoughts?
shatter
Stormraven is probably the best ride for him (and a dread (DC especially)). Accentuate the positive (fleet), eliminate the negative (rage). The Stormraven lets you fly over obstacles and place him in better spots to ensure his rage will be meaningless for a turn or two. SR + fleet + assault is pretty powerful.
BLACK BLΠFLY
To me he is an eye candy unit included to support our background. It's silly he can't join other units otherwise he would then be worth his points.
Kanis
I agree with Black Orange; he's a great character on paper and would shine if part of a Death Company unit, but alas, he cannot and thus is left out. I'd love to try and use more than the, to me, typical character's taken, like Mephiston.
igotsmeakabob!!
Chances of GW making the right call and going the other way with their FAQ ruling? Same chance as anyone fielding Tycho in a remotely serious game.
bulley
His first problem is he is Death Company, and I do like the lack of control you get there. Stats wise I think both iterations of Tycho are pretty decent, but obviously you compare say the 170 normal Tycho to a 20 point more He'Stan and you feel like your missing out, especially since BA's are a bit like SW's where really Pskyers run the standard forces (in game terms, not fluff). If I was running a full DC army, I'd probably use him just to see what he's like, theres nothing wrong with play testing to see how he fits. I think this is pretty much spot on. Lemartes brings more for cheaper. Of course if you are in a Rhino or Raider not so good but a storm raven could be an option.
