Black2Jack1
Is it possible for a space marine to have amnesia? I ask because I am writing a Fan Fic, but will change key elements to the story if space marines can't suffer memory loss. If so what would you suggest be the main cause of such a debilitating injury? lothbrok
i know there is atleast one black library short story where an ultramarine loses his memory, and i've heard of others. however i would think that it would really difficult for a space marine to lose his memory due to the various "upgrades" he has. Grimtooth
With the fluff associated with Space Wolves being so injured they fall into the "Red Dream" while their body recovers with no recollection of how long they were out, I think you could create something along those lines. Severely injured unto deaths door that the system shutdown is so deep it erases memories. Bulweih
Yes maybe temporary memory loss, like 'how did we get out in the end?'. But the psycho-indoctrination and the 'uploads' received would still be in place, like long term memories in my opinion. The crap that was done to them in their transformation would be hardwired, long term memories would not be so. Night Runner
Memory loss is not necessarily the actual loss of memory. It is usually the inability to access the memories stored in certain areas of the brain. This could be due to chemical inhibitors, also in association with but not necessarily including, brainwashing and emotional trauma. So just because a Space Marine brain has been augmented, it does not mean it cannot be tampered with. They might have eidetic or photographic memory, but that just means the memories are more precise when forming and are filed away with a better system when it comes to accessing them. So memory loss is a possibility if you plan your story well. Also physical memory loss can also be achieved in parts of the brain that stores memory if it is damaged or lost due to physical damage or disease, but when this happens usually it can also effect the persons character. So a Space Marine might not remain an Astartes as programmed. Which could lead to an interesting story! I hope it helps. :tu: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/214683-space-wolf-memory/#findComment-2557435 Share on other sites
Max_Dammit
One of the bloodraven books is about a librarian that loses his memory and lands on a planet with 1000 sons and harlequins, he sees he looks the same as the 1000 sons but knows that he is not part of them.
