Gitsplitta's Mantis Warriors

In between the pod and the dread?? That would be my master-of-the-forge. I've just gotten a new, much larger light box so when I complete the next couple of units (two LS Storms) I'll take a whole-army shot that will hopefully actually be in focus.

For those of you who check in once in a while... I've got an army shot for you. I participated in a two-day 40k tournament at Rock Con in Rockford IL last weekend. Really fun time, hat's off to the TO and the venue & primary sponsor The Last Square in Madison, WI.

Anyway, got my 1850 pt army pretty well finished. Need some detailing yet on my two LS Storms, but otherwise... this is pretty much the army I set out to build 2 years ago when this adventure began. When the Land Speeders are done, I'll take a nice "studio" pic... but for now, these make for nice army pics.

My friend (Vlad) who runs Wolves for the Wolf God was at Rock Con as well and did really well with his wolves. He was kind enough to post some nice pics on his blog of my army along with some very nice comments. You'll have to go there if you want to read them (that's it... move along, check out the shiny new blog).

But, I'll re-post the pics here...

First up, the army on display for the painting judging.

Second pic from a quarter view.

And proof that a friend's trade marine has indeed fought with his bretheren before being reassigned! (served as the sergeant for my devastators)

Hope you like them!

Ah, I saw this fantastic army in person at Rock-Con, I was with Vlad! Just figured I'd say once again here that your army looks great.

How'd you do in the tournament? I know Vlad went 4-1, and I checked up on a couple of the tables but was lost track after some heart-pounding games of my own in other parts of the hall!

Thanks guys, really appreciate it!

As to what's next... I need to finish the two LS Storms up properly. I got them done enough to get them on the table, but there's a lot of detailing to do, get them on more secure bases and finally finish up painting the guns (those are borrowed) and the gunners. I think I'll do one guy in the back so I can keep track of when the unit is loaded & when it's not (or dead).

Beyond that I've got a couple of trades to work on... two vanguard, one normal, one in tranquility camo with a configuration I haven't done (quite) to this point.

These will take some time though as I have major painting of other types between now and Christmas. Money's bit tight this year so for part of their Christmas presents, I told my two young boys they could pick a unit or two out of their armies and I'd paint them up for them. The youngest picked a Tervigon & termagants plus a small squad of raveners. The eldest picked some warriors and two monoliths plus the remainder of his wraiths (one or two).

So I'm going to be *really* busy for 6 weeks... but not too much marine action unfortunately. When I get something marine-like done I'll be sure to post it.

Best, and thanks for reading!

Been a long while since I updated anything. Currently working on a small assault squad... should be finished tomorrow night if all goes well. Also took a pic of my entire army. Nearly 4000 pts all together, more if I counted all the war gear. Still a long way to go.

With luck, you'll be seeing the finished assault squad pics very soon. Gearing up for Adepticon again this year & have a lot to do between now and then.

The army pic looks very good Gits. You have done an amazing job on your marines. I'm glad that you are posting them here and not just on Dakka. The army log over there is just too long for me to follow and comment on without feeling lost all the time.

@Stobs: Thank you!

@AlexCrute: Thanks as well. It's still evolving, but I'm glad it's still eye-catching in spite of that.

@Desert Eagle: Much appreciated. The lack of variation in the original models is starting to wear on me a bit. You can't tell from the pic (though if you double-click on it, you'll go to the original image which is very zoomable), but all the beakies are converted pretty heavily pose-wise. I'm starting to run out of ideas.

@mikhail: I think it's important to keep up the B&C thread. There's a different group of folks here who have been great to me. It is a streamlined blog to be sure... without the chatter and WIP shots... but it is a great way to keep up with what I've been up to. Should be a bunch of new updates in the next month... so hopefully the thread'll get back onto the B&C radar again. Thanks for your continued support, I really appreciate it. <_<

First assault squad done. This is actually very much a "feel good" squad for me as I've always felt uneasy about representing my chapter without any assault capability. Long overdue. Will have one more of these done some time in the next 6 weeks.

I figure by this point in the Badab War, these marines would have really been through the mill. 3 of the 5 have bionic something, with the sergeant having the most (arm, body, leg). The second squad will be similar... have some different bionic bits lined up for them. I did try to include a bionic head for the two-sword marine but I just can never paint them so they look worth a damn, which is how he ended up as he did. I'll probably put a helmet at his feet eventually to complete the scene.

Decided to do the edge highlights in green for the most part, and leave the inside of the wings in shades of grey. The wings, as with the axe are in "powered down" mode, thus are not at the full brightness of normal powered operation, as it's clear Taki is taking a moment to assess the situation and issue orders. The intense lights of my light box make the edge highlights look *really* green. IRL the effect is more subtle. It does turn up the volume of the green ever so slightly though, which is an effect I like quite a bit.

I'll be honest, wish I was keeping this one. Hope it meets with the approval of the gentleman I'm trading it to.
